“DON’T SAY THAT! EVERYONE FEELS LIKE THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE MOVED because of their comfort zone, but look at this way - new place equals new opportunities. Maybe you need to venture out a bit more to find the stars but they are there” Bunny didn’t know where the motivational talk came from but she felt the need to reassure the other that everything was going to be alright. Bunny knew all too well how out of place or ‘weird’ one could feel when moving to a new place but everything was going to be just okay if they stuck to it; “The stars surround us everywhere we go. This job offer could be good for you”

Stella couldn’t help but smile at her words and how modivational she was sounding. “Thanks.” Stella thanked her with a smile. “That’ helped a bit.It’s just a huge difference between country town to big city” She shrugged. She was just going to brush it off, she hadn’t bee in Chicago for that long and if she was honest with herself she wasn’t really giving it that fair of a shot either. “It is, it’s really good for me. I’m going to be able to cover the game next Thursday and I’m really happy and excited about it.”

“It’s okay I guess, really flat and boring,” he shrugged. “Yeah, I’m just glad I didn’t have to share and room with my brother. He had posters of book covers and quotes from said books everywhere,” Sam chuckled. “Yes way! They have a planetarium and it is awesome!”

“Well hey, flat and boring can be pretty fun.” She said positively. “I never had to share a room growing up.” She admitted with a smile. “I guess that’s one of the perks of being the only girl in the family.” She added with a shrug and a light chuckle. “That’s so cool! Guess I have something to do one of these days. Guess this place ain’t so bad after all.”

“Definitely. If you go to Joliet or Aurora it can be beautiful.”

“Joliet and Aurora?” She asked as she took out a pad of paper and her pen. “Thanks!” She exclaimed happily. “I’ll be sure to check them out.”

“I don’t know if cute is the right word.” Connor teased, not being able to hold back a small smile. “It definitely wasn’t. We were teenagers and we both had so much going on. And then not long after we broke up Nathan came along.” He may not’ve been their biological son, but he was their son. He was the reason the two of them had been so close after the breakup. “I mean…I definitely believe everything happens for a reason, especially as I get older. I didn’t used to believe it.” He shrugged. “Thank you. I’m happy and she’s happy…so hopefully it stays that way.”

“t’s cute. Cute is the right word here. And look at that smile formin’ on ya face. I see it. Cute is defiantly the right word here Connor.” Stella teased him “Yeah, sometimes it takes something a bit life changin’ to really see it.” She replied softly. “Well I’m happy y’all are happy.”

“Living in LA was different. A new experience, really. I usually spent a lot of time at the beach, or just anywhere but home.” Benji smiled. Though LA hadn’t been a great experience for him when it came to family situations, he really did miss the beach a lot. “How old’s your brother? I’ve got my younger sister living in Chicago too. Same apartment as me, actually.”

“Oh really?” She asked, her brows frowning in concern. “If you had the opportunity, would you ever go back to LA?” She asked, curiously. “He’s turning Twenty Seven in a couple of months. Do you really? How is that, living with each other?”

“Not really, no. But, there’s this one town a couple hours from here I have family at, and the stars are beautiful there.”

“Really?” She asked,  her eyebrows raising up. “Guess my next weekend off I’ll just have to drive out somewhere for the weekend just to see the stars real nice.”

“Not in my experience, no.” Connor laughed softly. He wasn’t talking about his current relationship, he was talking about his pasts ones. Kiara was a great girlfriend and he’d never say otherwise. “Yep. That’s why I’ll never get married again. It’s such a pain in the ass, and I really don’t understand why people do it.” He agreed, nodding his head. “Well I harass him about shit all the time, and bug him, so he probably won’t question it too much.” Connor shrugged. “I hope it’s high. Sometimes I have to remind myself I’m twenty-seven, not fifty seven. Although I’m sure plenty of fifty-seven year old guys have kids on the way, you get my point.” Connor teased. “I did say that, yeah. My girlfriend knows that. I mean, she’s my best friend. So she’s witnessed all of my past relationships and for a reason God only knows, she still wants to be with me.” He laughed softly, a genuine smile forming on his face. “Well we’ve kind of always been a ‘we’. She raised Nathan with me, so…she’s really his mom. It made sense for us to be together for him and also because we’ve been trying to fight the fact that we’re hopelessly in love for ten years. We dated when we were younger and it didn’t work out, obviously.”

Stella snorted, holding back a laugh at his comment about fifty-seven year old men. Her smile grew soft as he continued and Stella honestly couldn’t keep the grin from her face. “That’s so cute!” She gushed. “Well before it obviously wasn’t the right time for y’all. Because if it was, you might not have Nathan and he sure is a blessin’ in life. But now y’all are together and I honestly believe it was meant to be, and meant to be this way.” She told him with big smile on her face. “I’m happy for ya, you seem really happy and I am happy that you’re happy.”

“Camping in tents doesn’t sound too appealing to me, but I’m sure taking a good long hike around a beautiful lake would make my day.” Benji smiled. “The beach is my favourite place to go. I just enjoy water. Whether it be lakes, or oceans. When I was living in LA I used to just go surfing all the time. It was amazing.” he nodded his head, wishing he could go back one day. “Do you have any family here? Or did you move to Chicago by yourself?”

“The beach is pretty fun. Me and my family would go Wrightsville Beach at least once a summer growin’ up. It was loads of fun.” She smiled while nodding her head. “You lived in LA? Wow. How was that?” She asked, all curious. “I do. My older brother Hunter lives here. I was actually visiting him when I ended up getting my job. It was nothing short of a miracle to be honest.”

“I grew up in Iowa, and we had a house out of the city, so it was great. My room had those glow in the dark stars, but I put them up as actual constellation from the sky. They went down my walls and everything. It was great,” he grinned. “The planetarium here is pretty sweet.”

“I ain’t ever been to Iowa, is it nice?” She asked. “Haha really?! That’s so cute! I had posters of motocrycles, cars, and North Carolina Panthers stuff all over my walls growin’ up, you defiantly had the better room decor.” She laughed, before she had stopped and her mouth just went slack. “No...way, you’re kiddin’!?!” She gasped. “You’re kiddin’ right?”

“Sounds like my kind of town. Woods and fields– it would be a nice place to go for a hike.” Benji smiled. It sounded like a nice getaway area. “New Zealand is beautiful. I only wish I didn’t have to leave it. I mean, Chicago’s great, but there really is no place like home.”

“Oh it was beautiful to take a hike in! Especially in the transition time between summer and fall when it ain’t too hot out, best time to take a hike and go camping.” She replied with a giant smile, surprised and happy to have come by someone who also enjoyed the outdoors - or at least that’s what she figured. “You’re right on that one. There is no place quite like home, guess that’s why they call it home.”

“Oh, are you feeling a little homesick? Where are you from?” Benji asked curiously. “My aunt had a farm out in the middle of no where back in New Zealand. And the stars would just scatter over the entire sky an night. It was beautiful.”

“Yeah, a little.” She replied back with a small smile and a nod. “North Carolina. A little podunk town about thirty minutes from Fayetteville. Lots of woods and fields, my brothers, dad, and I would just camp out in this clearing in our woods from our back yard durin’ the summer and wow, they were clear as day out there.” She sighed happily, remembering. “Really? New Zealand? That’s so cool! I’ve never been... it’s on my dream list to go though.”

“YOU CAN REALLY SEE THE STARS ON THE EAST side of the building. I’m really lucky where I got put because you can see the stars over my balcony. You’re welcome to come and have a look sometimes if you want. I love stars too” she might have put it as a miscellaneous request when filling out an application for the Twin Oaks, she was hoping that was why she got the room she did. Either way she wasn’t going to complain.

“Thank you for the offer, I really appreciate it...” Stella thanked the girl with a small smile. “I just wish it was the same. With all the lights and everythin’ it aint. Apart of me regrets even’ acceptin’ the job out here, I should’ve stayed home but I know that stars ain’t a reason to decline a good job offer, ya know?”

“Chicago has always been quite difficult to view the night sky, but from higher ground, you’d be able to.”

“Yeah, it ain’t the same though. When you come from the country to the city, it ain’t the same.”

“I know what you mean. It sucks. Back home, I could drive a few miles and be able to see the entire sky. I miss it,” he sighed.

“Right!” She exclaimed excitedly. “I used to live out in the country part of North Carolina, had woods in our back yard and my dad, brothers and I would just camp out in a clearing in the woods durin’ the summer time and we could see the stars so clearly with out any lights or anythin’.”

“Maybe try the rooftop then. There’s a great view from there. Might not be as close as you’d like to get to the stars, but it’s better than here.” Benji greeted the girl.

“Yeah, ya can see them from up there, I’ve already tried.” She sighed. “But it ain’t the same ya know? Ya can see them and all, but it’s harder because of all them city lights ya know? Back home you can see them real nice with out all the lights and stuff.”

“I completely agree. I mean, I went through so much at that age, it’s the reason I decided to work at a middle school.”

“Oh yeah, middle school age was the worst.” She agreed. “And also incredibly awkward.”

“I really think so, yeah.” He nodded with a small smile. “Oh, shit. I’m not either. All of my past relationships were absolute disasters.” He admitted, shrugging his shoulders. He partly believed that was because he was meant to be with Kiara, but it didn’t change what he had been through. “Everett hasn’t said anything to me, but we don’t really talk about work. I’ll ask him though, because I’m nosy as hell.” Connor laughed softly. “Right? I like to think by that point we may have another kid.” He replied, referring to him and Kiara. “So when he graduates I’ll have another little one to take care of. I don’t know, though. We’ll see.”

“Is any one ever really good with relationships though?” She asked, chuckling. “I mean, they all end some way or another anyhow, right?” Stella snorted out a laugh as she shook her head at him. “Your poor brother. Probably gonna wanna know why ya even wanna know in the first place.” She shrugged, she never met Everett, but that’s something any of her brothers would wonder so she couldn’t really say the same for Connors. “The probability of ya having another little one is high.” She assured him, then she looked confused. “We?” She asked, her brows frowning. “I thought you said you were bad with relationships?” She asked. “I mean good for you, I’m happy for you that you have a ‘we’!”
