I am heartbroken, that Jane Goodall is dead. What shall I do without her voice.
At the risk of sounding anti-intellectual, I think that college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields
At the risk of sounding like an effete intellectual, I do actually think you should be allowed to just take college courses indefinitely
technically you can, if you don't care about degrees.
Free Harvard courses. Free Courses from Stanford. Free Courses from MIT. Free courses from Yale. Free courses from Princeton.
Free courses on Coursera.
Free Courses on EDx Free Courses on Alison
For paid, there's The Great Courses+/Wonderium. 20$ a month for unlimited courses.
When searching, the phrases you're looking for are Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or you can do a general search of say, "free online college courses." Oh, and so you don't get surprised like I did, have an avoid: Hillsdale College is a conservative Christian site and not a valid MOOC place. Sign up with them and you will get things like THIS IS WHY THE LEFT IS TURNING YOUR KIDS TRANS AND GAY in your inbox.
but also all college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields
Shattered being the Chakotay officially getting over Janeway episode is funny bc if and alternate timeline version of the woman who I had been pining over pathetically for 6 years asked me if we had ever fucked and then seemed disappointed when I said no, well, that would actually make me more insane
I would have been on the news
According to Know Your Meme, on August 18th, 2005, Erwin Beekveld brought forth this work into the world. HAPPY TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY, THEYāRE TAKING THE HOBBITS TO ISENGARD.
sheds a single tear
every august 18th my notifications break and i go, fuck, tumblr has failed me once again, but it hasnāt. it hasnāt failed me. itās just the taking the hobbits to isengard-iversary. happy 12 years
#i hope we all celebrated this international feast day accordingly
I regret to inform everyone that @catchasparkās reblog was made in 2017 and that Taking the Hobbits to Isengard was actually published 17 years ago, not 12 years ago.
Happy 20th anniversary, old-ass meme. Youāre still beloved.
sometimes thereās videos that make me happy to exist on this planet
iād reblog this even if it was a still image
I know itās a sesame street clip but seriously, who is the target audience for this?
Parents watching it with their kids, I guess?
literally everyone
Everyone. No, really⦠everyone.
For adults, the appeal is Sir Patrick Stewart doing a kidās educational bit in full Shakespearean dress and style; thereās a delightful cognitive dissonance between the very serious presentation and the very simple content.
For very small children, itās educational: this is the letterĀ āBā; hereās how itās shaped; hereās some words you know that start with it. Oh, and hereās a word you may not be familiar with that starts with it, so you can recognize that itās the sound that matters, and not whatever other connection you made between the other two words.
For older kids: youāve probably heard thatĀ āto be or not to be?ā speech, or at least part of it, so you can enjoy some of the parody the adults are watching. Also, hereās how to describe how a letter is made - how to teach young siblings who donāt read yet, how to explain both the shape and the sound.
For kids with dyslexia: hereās how you differentiate aĀ āBā from a P or D or E. You may have to go slowly and look carefully at the exact shapes that make up the whole, but there are differences and you can learn to recognize them.Ā
For teens or young college students: In addition to whichever parts of those are relevant to you, hereās what Shakespearean acting sounds like. Hereās how to enunciate clearly and slowly, so your audience can understand terms they may not recognize and still follow the gist of what youāre saying. If youāre reading Shakespeare in school, try sounding it out like this and see if that helps it make sense.
For new RenFaire workers: Hereās how to pronounce āzounds.āĀ
One of the most glorious things in the world is Shakespearean actors doing stuff like this.
Heās taking this performance as seriously as he does when heās doing actual Shakespeare š„ŗ
This is how I learned to pronounce āzoundsā

I think I died five times while doing this but it's done.
No really I have no idea who I sold my soul to to finish thisššš... but however
ENJOY
i literally canāt listen to tik tok by kesha without thinking about that goddamn star trek tos fanvidā¦you know the one
Best part:
āThat Kesha tweet was probably faked ā¦ā *checks* ā⦠HUH.ā
(Hereās a link to the tweet in question.)
I took this screenshot today, so that you donāt have to worry about like a rickroll or whatever.
My insides are laughing so much right now.
Come check out the Fanlore page for this viral vid.
The first time I saw this vid was *this year*! Reblogging for any others who are part of the lucky 10 000 who get to see this creation for the first time.
In honor of "Attached" airing on this day three yearnful decades ago.
I miss joyful-voyager.
current fan creation landscape is kinda like if you went to a party with a homemade cake and everyone takes a slice and silently thumbs up at you with no attempt to start a conversation except for occasionally some guy sits in the corner with a tape recorder critiquing the cake as though he was a restaurant critic and another guy is handing the cake to an uber driver like "yeah i need you to find a restaurant that makes cake like this so i can have more of it" and the only person that's talked to you in 30 minutes is a very sweet little guy who was like "hey i liked your cake" and then ran away apologizing for bothering you the moment you said thank you.
someone brought a cake analysis robot to feed the cake into to determine the exact ingredients and supposedly it can spit out the exact same cake. and if you're like dude. what. then they're like well if it bothers you you should have made more cake. i'm hungry and i deserve cake. and you're like dude we're at a party.
Three months later you find out that fifty people locked themselves in a room to discuss how much they loved your cake and how they wished you made more. None of them ever told you.
so for the love of god. please tell people you liked their cake and donāt feel embarrassed about it. because then they will make more cake.
Back in my day we KNEW they would never be canon.
We shipped anyway

I am so sad. I sing. I am already old for singing, 47 years. I began taking singing lessons 8 years ago. I joined a group of singers. We had good years. At the beginning I just sang in the back but gradually I got better and now I am often in the front, singing the upper voice. And now something happened: the group finds the repertoire too difficult (which it is not, because we get great critics for our concerts). I feel they envy me. And that is awful. I just want to sing. Singing is my life. And probably in 5-6 years I will not be able to sing anymore because I have a chronical illness.
Why is envy in this world? Why can't we just live together and support eachother and why can't I just sing in the last years I got?
I am sad.
Perfect Days (2023)
Directed by Wim Wenders
I am so happy, that they put the whole Star Trek series on Netflix. Just watched Mission Farpoint. And I think. I am so old. Those long lurcking glances, not fast cuts... you had really time to watch the actors. And when I compare it to Star Trek Picard I am sad, that the pure Star Trek philosophy is often replaced by action and darkness. I am happy that I can see my Star Trek again. And binge watch ALL of it.
why does this have 32k notes? itās just a picture of a knife in a ranch bottle, is there some unspoken joke that 32 thousand people share? what is going on here, i dont get it. itās just a fucking picture of a knife in a ranch bottle. is there some spiritual connection people have to this picture? is there some ominous and mystical reasoning that this has 32 thousand notes? do people reblog this because it makes them look like some indie blogger? or is there just something funny to this? someone please explain
no one tell him
This is it, lads. The post that started us on this path 9 years ago.
I sure hope no one told him.
