Summary : Dean struggles to keep up with his classes, exhausted by his family responsibilities. When his teacher Gabriel offers him help, he reluctantly accepts⊠not knowing it will bring Castiel into his life.
Like, there's a lot of stuff, but it's mostly things he found here and there or bought cheaply at flea markets, but he's always loved it and that's what matters most.

« Putain ! » hurla-t-il dans la voiture. « Putain⊠putain⊠»
(PS: Neurasthenia: an old medical term for exhaustion of the soul and deep dejection.)
âSo, Dean. Tell me more about yourself,â Kelly asked.
Dean swallowed the last slice of cherry pie. A few crumbs settled at the corner of his mouth. He wiped them away quickly before looking at Kelly.
âWhat do you want to know?â
âI donât know. Who are you? What are your dreams, for example? Do you have siblings, or are you an only child? Basic things.â
Dean frowned almost immediately.
Dreams?
Kelly noticed his discomfort at once. She shifted in her chair â the least comfortable one, for no reason.
âSorry. I can be a little intrusive sometimes,â she tried.
âNo. I mean, itâs fine. I have a brother. His name is Sam,â Dean answered, avoiding the question about dreams.
It didnât even have time to take root in his head. It wasnât the moment, wasnât the place, wasnât a thought he could afford to let in right now.
âI see. Youâre the oldest, right?â
âMom, stop with the questions,â Jack exclaimed. âLook how uncomfortable youâre making him.â
âYes, fine. Boys, clear the table. Iâm going to bed.â
The woman climbed the stairs in a hurry.
âDean, if you want, you can sleep here. Castiel wonât mind you sleeping with him.â
Sleeping at Castielâs? With Castiel? Castiel?
Dean gave the brunet an awkward smile.
âDonât pay attention to what she says. I meanâŠâ Castiel hesitated. âI wouldnât mind.â
âYeah, well, I just need to text Sam soâŠâ
Dean stopped dead.
Sam.
âFuck, Samâs at Gabrielâs. I completely forgot him.â
Dean found his way toward the exit in seconds.
âCastiel, I have to go. Thanks for the help and the meal. And for the invitation⊠letâs say another time?â he said, panic already taking over.
He checked his watch. The hands seemed to move too fast. Every second he spent standing there was another second lost. The twenty minutes he had already wasted didnât help.
Dean opened the front door, letting the cool air rush into the house. He didnât give himself time to think before heading for his car.
Castiel watched him leave. To him, the whole thing had happened in an instant. One second Dean was in the kitchen, and the next â boom. No Dean.
âDean, wait. At least give me your number,â Castiel called after him.
It was already too late. The blond was already shoving his key into the ignition.
Fuck.
âWhy is the door open? And where did Dean go?â Jack asked, coming out of the downstairs bathroom.
Castiel didnât answer. He simply went upstairs and locked his bedroom door behind him.
âWhy do I always miss all the action?â Jack complained under his breath.
Dean, for his part, had only one thing in mind: Sam.
He drove way too fast to Gabrielâs house, counting down the meters left before the driveway. By the time he cut the engine, the car was taking up two parking spaces.
He slammed the door hard as he got out. The noise echoed through the whole neighborhood and woke up a dog two houses away.
Dean didnât pay attention. Instead, he pulled his phone from his pocket. No messages from Sam, Naomi, or even Gabriel. Then the time at the top of the screen startled him more than the dogâs barking.
Forty minutes late. Shit.
The dead leaves scattered across the ground nearly made him trip. Eventually, he reached the front door and knocked.
Nothing.
Still nothing.
Then the door opened.
âOh, Dean. I thought you werenât coming anymore. Please, come in,â Naomi said.
The jab left a grimace on Deanâs face, one he rushed to erase.
âYeah, sorry Iâm late. I was busyâŠâ he replied.
He didnât enter despite the invitation. He waited for Naomi to call Sam, but she didnât.
âCan you call Sam?â
The woman didnât answer right away. She simply observed him for a few seconds before taking out a pair of slippers.
âI just washed the floor. You can put your sneakers in the shoe cabinet and follow me. I have a few questions for you. And Sam is taking a bath, donât worry.â
She had already walked away before he could answer.
Dean frowned. He stared at the entryway for a few seconds, noticing the peeling paint and cracked joints.
After a few moments of hesitation, he decided to listen to Naomi and step inside. The door stood wide open, ready to welcome him, but it didnât inspire even the slightest trust.
Did he really have another choice?
As usual, the first thing he noticed was a smell.
Very different from Castielâs house or his own. No pie. No neurasthenia. More like⊠diapers?
Oh no.
Not the best memories to come rushing back. He had changed diapers. Plenty of them. Every color. And it wasnât exactly what he missed most.
To Dean, diapers meant waking up in the middle of the night, crying, irritation, and responsibility scattered everywhere.
He breathed in, then put on the slippers. He ventured deeper into the house, taking time to observe every corner.
Most of the rooms were closed, except for the one near the living room. The sound of water boiling pulled him from his thoughts.
âChamomile or mint?â Naomi asked.
âHuh?â
âNot âhuh.â âPardon.â And would you like chamomile tea or mint tea?â
Maybe Sam wasnât wrong about the plague.
âIâll take coffee.â
Naomi nodded and went back to what she was doing.
A small creaking sound echoed from the next room. Seeing Naomi didnât react, Dean took the initiative and stepped toward a little room attached to the living room.
When he entered, he thought his eyes might explode. He had to blink several times before adjusting. The room was completely neon pink. A mix of dolls and tiny houses littered the floor. The walls were packed with photos of Gabriel and what had to be his wife, happier than ever.
His gaze lingered in the middle of the room. The crib there swallowed all his attention. The hairs on Deanâs arms rose the second the little bed creaked.
He approached slowly, without making a sound.
Under the few Mickey blankets in the crib was a baby sleeping peacefully. A little headband with Disney princesses rested on her head. Dean held his breath, afraid of waking her.
She slept with her thumb in her mouth, taking up all the space available to her.
So calm, Dean thought, seeing the relaxed expression on her face.
Not like Sam, he thought next.
âDean, your coffee is ready,â Naomi called from the kitchen.
âBye, little one,â he murmured before joining the woman.
âWhere did you go?â she asked, biscuits in hand.
Dean pointed toward the room.
âYou could have woken her.â
âBut I didnât,â he said, exasperated.
Naomi only sighed.
âIâm not your enemy. Iâm just taking care of your brother, and Iâm not the one whoâs forty minutes late. So use another tone with me.â
Dean was caught off guard. His neck tensed before relaxing again.
âSorry,â he admitted with difficulty. His eyes studied the floor, refusing to meet hers.
âItâs fine. Drink your coffee, and letâs talk about Sam.â
Dean lifted his head immediately.
âToday, he arrived covered in mud. He wouldnât tell me why he was in that state. I had to argue with him from the moment he got here just to make him wash. He said he didnât want to bathe at a strangerâs house because his brother told him that wasnât good. Something about favors you shouldnât have to return, if I understood correctly. Does that mean anything to you?â
Dean didnât know what to say. How to defend himself.
It was all true.
âAnyway, moving on. Thatâs not the important part. Iâm mainly telling you because when I was preparing the bath, I saw Sam shirtless before he entered the room. And on his back, I noticed two bruises. Did you know about them? The bruises, and what caused them, I mean?â
Bruises? On his back?
His blood started boiling in his veins. If he didnât stop himself, even the coffee would seem cold compared to him.
âHe shouldnât be long, in any case. Heâs been upstairs for a good twenty minutes.â
âCan I go up to him?â Dean asked, a hint of anger in his voice.
The question was so dry it sounded more like an order.
âHeâs probably still in the bath.â
âThatâs not what Iâm worried about right now. And it wonât be the first time Iâve seen him naked,â Dean admitted.
âFine. Follow me, then,â she said, showing him the way.
Every step toward Sam made Dean angrier. Sam had better have a good explanation. If this was what Dean thought it was, things were going to go very badly.
âItâs here. Iâm going back downstairs. Call me if you need anything.â
Dean didnât even bother thanking her. He knocked on the door, then opened it without waiting for an answer.
Mud hit him right in the face.
âFuck, Dean? Get out of here!â Sam shouted.
The water wasnât covering him. He was standing in front of the mirror, a towel hanging from his hips. Deanâs gaze went straight to his back. His whole body stiffened at the sight of the two colored marks on his brotherâs skin.
âWho did that to you?â
Sam froze.
He didnât deny it. He knew there was no point.
âDean, I donât want to talk about it.â
âWell, I do, so youâre going to tell me who did that to you, and youâre going to tell me right now.â
âNo.â
Dean didnât understand.
No.
As far back as he could remember, it was the first time Sam had refused to listen.
âWhat do you mean, no?â Dean asked, angrier than ever.
âI said no. You always do this. Every time something happens to me, you freak out. Fuck, Dean, Iâm half-naked in someone elseâs house and youâre getting in my face over two bruises. Iâm not a little kid anymore. Let me live.â
Let me live.
The thought went through Deanâs whole body, from the tips of his toes to his chest. It finally lodged itself in his head and slammed into everything Dean believed in.
All at once.
âI see. Get dressed. Weâre leaving,â Dean answered.
He lowered his head and left the room, closing the door behind him. He didnât say goodbye to Naomi. He went straight to the car and waited for Sam to come out.
Dean exhaled once he was inside. He threw his head back against the headrest. All he wanted was to start the car and drive as far away as possible from this cursed town.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Deanâs phone suddenly buzzed.
He hesitated before looking, but when he saw âCharlieâ on the screen, he picked it up.
Charlie: Hey, my favorite blond. I wanted to know if tomorrow was still good? I completely forgot to ask you this morning, so yeah.
What is she talking about?
Dean: Tomorrow?
Charlie: Youâd better be kidding.
Dean: If I tell you Iâm not, is that bad?
Charlie: If I say computer science, does that ring a bell?
Dean: Shit. Yeah, itâs fine.
Charlie: Good. So itâs still happening.
Dean hesitated.
Dean: For me, yeah. But for Sam⊠I donât know.
Charlie answered almost instantly.
Charlie: What happened?
He stared at the screen for a few seconds. Was he supposed to talk about it?
Dean: âLet me live.â
This time, Charlie took longer to answer.
Charlie: I donât have the full story, but Iâm sure he had his reasons. Dean, heâs a big boy, and Iâll admit youâre often on his back. Youâll always be his big brother, even if you donât take care of him every second you can. You know that, right?
He should have gotten angry.
He was angry.
But not at Charlie.
At himself.
Dean: Iâve been saying this a lot lately, but I donât know what Iâd do without you.
Charlie: Yeah, I know, I know. And anyway, if you want, you can invite Castiel. It could be cool. I mean, if you want, of course.
Castiel.
The thought took up a little space in his head, already crowded with Samâs words.
He didnât answer Charlie. He went to Instagramâs search bar and typed Castiel Novak. He scrolled through a few usernames but found nothing. Then he tried Jack Kline.
Bingo.
Dean opened his profile and searched through his following list until he found âCas_Trench.â
He didnât think for another second before following the account. He stared at the âmessageâ button like it was forbidden fruit, then clicked.
His fingers moved over the touchscreen keyboard at a frantic speed.
Press send.
Dean: Do you want to go out together?
@bugpersonified Here is chapter 9, I hope you will like it.
Hey everyone, I had a little setback, so I admit I don't think I'll be able to finish chapter 9 today. I'll try, but I think it'll be tomorrow. Really sorry.
Hey guys, I wanted to know if you like the format: short posts about my fanfic while I'm away on vacation. I admit it's easy and doesn't take too much time, so it's perfect for posting regularly, but if you have other ideas, I'm open to suggestions.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to my return soon; I miss writing so much.
For those reading this, I have a question. I'm currently writing a long Destiel AU College fanfiction (I'll probably do a slow burn) and I wanted to know if for my future projects you'd prefer something as long as this one, something shorter, or just smut? (I'm only writing romance for now).
(Oh, and if you want certain characters even if they're not in Supernatural or crossovers, just say so!)
Reblogging this to make it easier! Feel free to vote below to help me decide what to write next for my future projects. Thank you so much for your help!
