after  the  initial  rescue  ,  both  minnie  &&  sophie  kept  to  themselves  respectively  .  clementine  figured  they  both  needed  time  to  heal  ,  and  honestly  ,  she  didn’t  blame  them  .  she  couldn’t  even  begin  to  imagine  the  horrors  they  went  through  at  the  hands  of  the  delta  .  everything  almost  seemed  like  they  were  getting  back  to  normal  ,  minus  marlon  ,  brody  ,  &&  mitch  .  clementine  desperately  wished  they  could’ve  saved  marlon  .  he  wasn’t  an  evil  boy  ,  he  was  just  scared  .  it’s  sad  how  marlon  thought  this  would  be  the  only  way  to  prevent  everyone  from  dying  ,  however  .

giving  her  plenty  of  time  to  recover  ,  clementine  went  to  sophie’s  room  ,  her bruised  knuckles  lightly  rasping  against  the  door  .  ‘  how  do  you  even  start  this  conversation  ??  ‘  clem  thought  to  herself  ,  arms  crossing  securely  against  her  chest  ,  awaiting  the  girl  to  answer  .

╳ —「  sophie  ??   it’s  me  ,  clementine  .  i  know  you  have  no  idea  who  i  am  ,  and  that’s    okay  .  i  just  wanted  to  see  how  you’re  holding  up  ,  is  all  .   everyone’s  worried  .   」

after spending so long at the delta, sophie lost hope that she’d ever be rescused. while        it might have only been a year, it felt like a lifetime. she almo-        -st cried walking through ericson’s gates, having been so su-        -re she’d never see it again.

even though the horrors of the delta were far from them at the moment, that didn’t keep         it from haunting her. no, sophie now struggled to sleep at         night, scared any noise might be the raiders coming to re-         -claim what not too long ago had been theirs. she had lo-         -st her will to socialize as well -- she knew the others had          no idea of her capture, but those feelings of betrayal she          had felt for a year were hard to shake.

instead, sophie would lock herself in her room ( a luxury she had long since forgotten ),        sitting upon the top bunk of her bed, legs tucked close to        her chest as she stared at the door in fear. she’d refuse to        leave, even for supper, instead requiring minerva ( and her        only ) to bring it to her. it was hard to try and force herself        to return to how things were before. she still loved the oth-        -ers, but it was obvious being around people put her on         edge.

it wasn’t hard to notice how she flinched any time they moved too quickly around her.

hearing clem at her door snapped sophie out of her daze, and she probably would’ve        had an attack had the other girl hadn’t announced herself        quickly afterwards. still safe. you’re still safe, soph. it was        just the new girl.

sophie’d be lying if she said she wasn’t a bit apprehensive about clementine. she        was eternally grateful for her rescue, there was no doubt        of that in her mind, but hearing of the events that lead up        to it.. it left her uneasy. the world felt just a little too much        emptier with marlon, brody and mitch gone.

she didn’t blame clem for what happened. she couldn’t. it wouldn’t be fair. but clem        did leave a certain fear in her, wondering just what this n-        -ew girl could be capable of. she was done putting her life         in the hands of a stranger.

clearing her throat, sophie spoke up. ❝ h--hey. i’m fine. don’t.. don’t worry about me. ❞

( MARLON! ):

   ‘ hey, nobody’s an asshole to sophie and gets away with it. and hey, it was just      mitch, it was nothing i couldn’t handle. bastard got me good, though. ‘

marlon wouldn’t admit to anybody, but he liked her. he liked sophie a lot. he would get beaten up for her if it meant saving her life. marlon tilted his head back, grunting out in pain.

   ‘ shit, did he break my damn nose? that kid’s got a fuckin’ swing, i’ll tell you. ‘

sophie found herself smiling at his words, a little.. well, flattered. she never really had        someone stand up for her ( outside of minerva ) before --        and then she met marlon. there was something        sweet, almost poetic about the way he        acted around her.

she wasn’t sure why he was like this for her of all people. she wasn’t really anything        special, but he always treated her as if she were.

❝ still. you’re lucky mitch didn’t bust more of you.. your nose          is definitely fucked, and you’re gonna bruise.. ❞        she said, bringing her face a little closer to        his, studying his bruised features slowly.

she lingered a moment before moving away, taking an alcohol-prep pad out of their        first aid kit. she tore open the packaging and bro-        -ught the pad to his face, waiting before        pressing it to his wounds.

❝ hold still. i can’t do this if you keep moving, you know. ❞

sophie struggles a lot with feelings of inadequacy. minerva was always the more intelligent, more talented & more liked twin -- where minnie excelled, sophie always seemed to be a bit behind. she couldn’t make friends as easy as minerva could, she couldn’t do as well in school as minerva could, and there didn’t seem to be many things that she was as good at like minnie.

all she really had of her own was her art -- minerva could take good pictures, but that was it. it was the one unique thing she had outside of her sister, but otherwise, she felt as if she was a rather unmemorable girl.

she lived constantly in minerva’s shadow, and her self-worth deteriorated quickly (especially after she got her burns when her parents died) until they got to ericson’s. the boarding school kids were the first people to see her as sophie and not just minerva’s lesser twin. 

she definitely doesn’t have any grudges towards minnie for it -- she doesn’t blame her at all. more or less, she just feels as if she’s not worthy enough to be her sister.

i definitely headcanon that sophie has a prosthetic arm. i based her appearance off of a concept art of minerva’s

and in it, her right hand isn’t colored in, and appears to have some sort of odd glove w/ straps on it

which i like to think is a prosthetic! sophie’s arm probably was too damaged after the fire, so she had to get it amputated and fitted for a prosthetic. it definitely was hard for her to get used to at first, but now it doesn’t even bother her. she’s definitely left handed because of it, though.

sophie rubbed at her sleepy eyes, painfully aware of the bags beneath them. sleep had        been fleeting for her ( it was impossible for her to keep her        eyes shut for long, even if she wanted to ) these last few w-        -eeks, insomnia hitting harder than ever.

“My mom would read me Dr. Seuss” he chuckled smiling at Judith. Watching his sister laugh before looking to Sophie.

“Let’s get her inside before she starts to get fussy” he smiled softly as he started to head toward the door. Gesturing Sophie to follow as he walked into the house. Making sure the door was shut before heading up to Judith’s room.

❝ dr. seuss was the greatest. ugh, i miss just reading so much. i used to think it was the          worst during school, ‘cause i never could focus for long,      but now? i’d kill for enough downtime to read. ❞ she sni-       -ckered softly, following behind him. she kind of missed      school -- funny, she never cared much for it before the      apocalypse.

❝ do you remember school? god, i’d probably give anything to go back again. it’s weird,     i’d be happy going to a math class at this point. and i sucked     at math. ❞ sophie said, humming as she walked.

( MINERVA ! ): 

Not stirred her from sleep faster than the sound of her sister or brother’s voices calling for her. So as she heard her twin’s quiet voice hit her ears, green eyes immediately forced themselves open and her head turned toward the sound of the voice. 

“Sophie?” Her own drowsy voice whined, only to hear the following statement. Right. Sophie couldn’t sleep. A small, thoughtful hum could be heard as her tired mind was trying to process what it was being told. Clearing her throat before attempting to speak again, she carefully began to sit herself up so she could look around for the candle in their new room.

“Yeah… Yeah, let’s just find the flint ‘n’ steel,” She breathed, bringing one of her hands up to rub at her eyes before carefully getting herself up to find it. 

Even through everything, it seemed as though Minnie was still the protector. Always there to take care of her siblings when they needed her. Even the Delta hadn’t beaten that empathy out of her, as much as it had hardened her and filled her with resentment toward the two that’d done this to her sister and her in the first place.

❝ thanks.. ❞ she mumbled, pulling herself from her bed, blanket draped around her sh-           -oulders like a cape. she blinked a few times to adjust to the        darkness, fumbling around for the flint and steel. 

sophie was always happy to have minerva by her side. although there were times ( mu-        -ch like tonight ) that she felt more like a burden than a sis-        -ter, minerva never treated her like that. no, there was always         a certain softness in minerva, reserved only for her & tenn now.         it was strange to see the changes minerva had adopted in order         to survive that awful camp ( and she felt as if the two of them were         strangers now to the rest of the kids.. even tenn. ).

clearing her throat, she wrapped her hand around the flint and steel, almost certain         her palms were sweaty & knuckles white. she had gotten fairly well         at hiding her newfound fear of the dark, but she never could bring         herself to fake anything for minerva.

❝ i’m sorry, i know i’m being a total baby.. ❞ she laughed, although it sounded hollow         and empty.

Resisting his natural urge to fidget under her watchful gaze soon feels impossible, forcibly freezing his posture yet again, and it’s more CLEAR than ever that he’s never much liked being put on the spot. “Okay, okay - sorry,” he mumbles, taking in a breath through his nose before quietly admitting, “This is… a lot more difficult than I expected.”

❝ nobody ever really likes the modelling part. ❞ she laughs softly, setting the pencil on           the table, lifting her sketchbook from her lap to study it a         moment. while it’s not photorealistic ( she’s sixteen, not a         professional, after all ) it certainly is a really good picture         of him. she lays the book on the table, sliding it over to          him, beaming proudly.

truly, she felt childish, being scared of the dark. she was, what, sixteen? seventeen?         and yet she still couldn’t shake that cold feeling of dread.

“Well I made it a thing to where I always tuck her in at night… I read a story and make sure she sleeps through the night. She likes Goodnight moon…” he smiled as he looked at his sister. Holding her up from her bottom his free hand went up and she placed her tiny one against his palm. A soft hum escaping him as she started to play with his fingers.

“I don’t mind, I’d enjoy the company” he smiled as he looked back up at her.

❝ that’s so sweet of you! i used to do the same thing for tenn when he was little. ❞ a sm-         -ile grew on her face, her dimples showing prominent-      -ly. she almost missed when tenn was judith’s age, even       if she was still fairly little when he was.

❝ he liked doctor seuss a lot. minnie would make up songs using the books, and she’d si-          sing him to sleep. it was.. really fun. he loved it. ❞ there was        a hint of melancholy -- nostalgia, perhaps -- in her voice. she      was a poor singer ( she always wondered how minnie could      sound so good while she couldn’t ) but singing songs was a      pleasant time.
