My incredibly patient instructors have started their own venture. Around the old school yin yang are the 5 classical elements.

In Chinese, Gōngfu (功夫) is a compound of two words, combining 功 (gōng) meaning "work", "achievement", or "merit", and 夫 (fū) which is alternately treated as being a word for "man" or as a particle or nominal suffix with diverse meanings (the same character is used to write both). A literal rendering of the first interpretation would be "achievement of man", while the second is often described as "work and time/effort"

It's funny how many comments on these tutorials and other ones I did while I was on a roll were filled with complaints about how this sort of thing is now "hipster" design, "totally overdone". At least I now know exactly how all those professional photographers use light leaks now (not that I hadn't suspected it was just a blending mode with some random hues thrown on top.)

Background Art for a mobile game in progress. Pardon the watermarks.

This was interesting- originally the client wanted very simple vector shapes at a far away scale (see the last picture). After 6 hours I had what you see- rough shapes, gradient trees...no time to even soften with opacity changes or Gaussian blurs. The style I was asked to follow had no sophistication whatsoever so I kind of threw some color down- that would need to be changed in the future after we tested monitors anyway.

He liked it but after seeing what the result truly was decided he wanted it painted- like the amazing art of Star Wars Angry Birds II. Now, I simply don't paint like that but I tried to come close and I like the result anyway- soft and more reminiscent of what I was doing before college, but with a deeper understanding of color and less realism. (17 hours- Original File roughly 8000x5000px)

This project could go on for a while or it could end here, but either way, it was nice to see how each rendering came out.

A commission for a friend who wanted me to make something for him and his girlfriend's anniversary. She's a big Doctor Who/ Steampunk fan so I made a Gallifreyan rune out of Sculpey (the text, which is fan-made, says "I love you") and wrapped it.

I plan on doing more things like this and my commissions are open!

Someone posted this on my FB feed and I felt the need to publically spread it.

As a young woman still going through the motions of growing up in America today I think this is so terribly relevant. I am constantly battling myself over the issues she mentions- my gender, my roots, my behavior, what I look like, what I eat, and perhaps the one that has always been the most difficult- when to speak and when to bite my tongue.

Space is a funny thing- physical or psychological- and I always think I'm bigger than I am; that I'm both taking up too much and often feeling like I need more (not living space so much as EXISTING space, a forest to let me hear my own thoughts).

Thank you, Lily, for making this a little more tangible and giving it some perspective.

Hey tumblr,

Just letting you all know I am alive! Life is too busy (work, job hunting, freelance, crafting...) to write or post. It's been very stressful. So I took some savings and bought a car (brand new 2014 Nissan Versa- cheap, but reliable, here's to hoping I can pay it off) and adopted two kittens- Rowan (top, black) and Callie (bottom, calico) to distract me from my daily woes.

So far, parenting has gone well, so I'm showin' 'em off to the world. :)
