One of the most fucked up parts of America’s for-profit medical system and insurance often being tied to your work is that you cannot work if you are sick and if you are not working, you have no insurance. People are fired in the middle of cancer treatment or a severe mental health episode and suddenly there is no way to pay the hospital and buy the medicine you need. Republicans will outright say “You don’t deserve free healthcare if you’re lazy and unemployed.” anytime someone mentions this, actively ignoring the fact that you often cannot work when you are sick and shouldn’t be forced to work when you’re sick to be able to afford to get better.

I highly recommend Forvo.com, the website where native speakers of a language contribute their time and voices to read words and names in their own language. It is a fantastic way to expand your world, open up your ears, and it's way more likely to nab a hit than just googling.

what people don’t understand about how adhd is disabling is that it’s not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. it’s getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. it’s not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. it’s about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't see any good reason for institutions to hoard thousands of photos taken by people who are no longer alive, keep them hidden, and then make money from access and from people wanting to use them for their own projects or any other purpose. these images are part of our shared history, not commodities. they should be seen, not stay hidden.

the asala collection (spanning 130 years, 355 albums/items, and more than 30.000 images) is a perfect example

the collection has been exhibited and promoted, & it is clearly an important historical archive. but who gets meaningful access?

a single rare photo album like those in collections such as this can cost thousands, putting them mainly within reach of wealthy collectors, universities, or museums.

these images are records of human history. when our shared visual heritage is locked behind ownership, price, and restricted access, most people lose the chance to see and learn from it.

they should be preserved, digitised & made accessible.

there is a pdf giving a glimpse into this huge collection; here. and this is only one collection; focused on the middle east & arabian peninsula. there are countless others.

Saying this with all the love in my heart, "Trans" is not a magical title that erases all social biases and discriminations you hold in your mind the moment you transition.

You have to actually ACTIVELY unlearn all that shit. You can actually be trans AND hold TERF and racist beliefs, it is in fact very easy.

Read studies and essays, Engage with the works of other minorities, Don't think you're just better by virtue of losing *some* privilege.
