I often see movies get praised for showing their creators' "love for the city", I want to see someone do the opposite. Some indie drama flick set in an interesting inner-suburban neighbourhood and doing like, nothing with it. Characters having conversations sitting against flat brick walls, swimming in the local council pool during a cloudy day, one scene is just thirty seconds of waiting to cross the five-lane arterial road to get to the 7-11, getting a slushie, and going back home. on the bus. Let me see this kind of understated hatred for someone's hometown they left as soon as they could, not because it was unbearable but because there were better places to live in, not even for plot reasons but because that's where the movie happens to take place.
