more specific: doing that shoulder-lean, clasped hands, “hey ma how you doing” type stuff when approaching women
using AAVE at all in any context
trying to proximate yourself with Blackness by referencing things associate with Black culture, exaggerating interests in things associated with Black culture, aligning yourself with Black men (the same way White gays do with Black women, essentially)
I also think that a lot of Lesbian Style™ associated with the “attractive White stud/butch/top” aesthetic is essentially the “urbanized” streetwear we associate with Black men. wlw do subvert masculinity in different ways, including wearing “menswear” in a way that is aimed at the consumption of other women, but it does become noticeable when you see White people who (1) don’t interact with Black people or (2) only interact with Blackness when it benefits them consistently grabbing from Black culture.
They also have a habit of retreating back into White feminine fragility when they are criticized or confronted about their behavior, especially when it’s resulting specifically from them puffing their chests out in the above fashion, which is especially laughable considering they want to be viewed as Womanly Aggressive™.
I was telling @brownbitchbisexual after I made this post that it’s particularly bothersome because a lot of these women will be the most vocal about the male gaze and how Uncivilized men of color in specific are when it comes to approaching women and dealing with relationships—yet they use the same mannerisms and speaking patterns, down to catcalling even, to perform masculinity themselves.
If you’re interested in seeing a live example, Robyn Almodovar from Hell’s Kitchen was the person who prompted this post in specific. You can look at her clips with Reggie Miller to see the bit that really ticked me off, although I’ve complained about her antics throughout this season.
