SONG OF THE WEEK:
✮⋆˙ Such Small Hands - La Dispute ✮⋆˙
Such Small Hands is a short yet effective song that wraps itself around themes of loss, guilt, and the struggle to overcome the pain of broken promises. Sonically, the instrumentals are haunting, setting the tone for the rest of the song. The singer, Jordan Dreyer, provides an equally emotive vocal rawness, elevating the song powerfully. It is about a person seemingly stuck in a constant loop from the aftermath of a broken relationship. The lyric that sticks out to me the most is "I thought I heard a plane crashing, but / Now I think it was your passion snapping", which implies the tumultuous end of the relationship. However, it can also be interpreted differently as someone losing themselves or interest in what they once loved. It is one of those songs that combines punchy, impactful lyrics with a desperate vocality to tie the theme together.

⋆。𖦹°⭒˚。⋆ Famous Last Words - My Chemical Romance ⋆。𖦹°⭒˚。⋆
Now, you cannot make a blog about rock music and not include My Chemical Romance! One of the most defining sounds of the early 2000's punk rock/emo music scene, My Chemical Romance is a band that has surpassed what it means to bring musical concepts to life through theatrical visuals and storytelling lyrical songs. Famous Last Words does just that; it is a song about strength and resilience that pierces through me and touches at the root of my core. Gerard Way flawlessly delivers a raw vocal performance that empowers and inspires the listener. You truly feel encouraged after listening. The story behind the song comes from the bassist, Mikey Way, who faced a challenging battle with mental health. In the song, the singer emphasizes the message through lyrics, "I am not afraid to keep on living. I am not afraid to walk this world alone." The singer displays an exceptional sense of resilience. It is a song that stands the test of time, much like the message behind it.

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Hell Above - Pierce the Veil *ੈ✩‧₊˚
Pierce the Veil is one of my all-time favorite bands. It is a band that I can simply lose myself for hours in listening to their entire discography, which is truly impressive and timeless. This song, however, holds a particular special place in my heart. Not only is it the first song I ever heard from them, but the meaning is what truly hooked me on them. Hell Above centers around themes of isolation, emotional turmoil, and finding temporary solace in relationships, music, or other events. The instrumentals and vocals are a bit heavier than most of the entries here, but that is what truly captivates me. The lyrics speak of a person surrounded in a hostile environment, seeking connection with other equally struggling people who find a limited refuge in places where they finally feel seen or belong. A song that has resonated with me since I discovered it and has helped me overcome the downsides of life's difficulties.

✦•┈๑ Cough Syrup - Young the Giant ๑┈•✦
Cough Syrup has to be one of my most beloved songs. It is a musical number that touches on topics of uncertainty, seeking authenticity, clarity, and wanting to break free from societal pressure and monotony. The main highlight is the lyric, "Life's too short to even care at all," which is truly the core message of this song. The singer, Sameer Gadhia, conveys the doubts many face, especially young adults who are expected to conform to a set of established ideals. The way society expects us to simply 'know'. However, like most, we are earnestly trying to adapt to an ever-changing world and are pushed to navigate it blindly. I have a sort of kinship to this song, the way it embodies feeling lost and wishing there was some guide or 'answer' to find our sense of direction or purpose.

♱ Like A Stone - Audioslave ♱
Like A Stone is a touching, thought-provoking song that encompasses a reflection of someone's life and the curiosity of imminent death. More importantly, circling around the burning question we dare not voice: is there an afterlife? And, if so, how will we be received? How was our life on Earth? Chris Cornell does an amazing job delivering raw, gritty vocals that truly enhance the dark, bittersweet nature of the song. Personally, the part I find myself reflecting on the most is the bridge, where the singer confesses that he had spent the day reading a book, which most listeners believe to be the bible, and how he finds himself looking back on his 'regrets', his life lived. It is a song that really puts your own life into perspective, to peel back the layers of mundane day-to-day and observe it from a long-term outcome based on our actions.
