How God Makes God (Classic Mac, Peter Small, 1993)

You can download it as HowGodMakesGod.img here (or more quickly in a zip file as HowGodMakesGod.img_.zip here), and run it on modern systems by following the instructions below the images.

Alternatively, in-browser emulated versions running on older emulated systems can be found here and here (more info about the game can be found at the first link, and also here). The tips below the instructions have info about adjusting the program's speed.

Open this in-browser emulator.

Drag the file you downloaded onto the emulated desktop. (Unzip it first if you download the .zip file.)

Open the icon that appears, then open Fonts.

Open Macintosh HD, then System Folder, then drag the three files in the Fonts folder into the System Folder's own Fonts folder.

Open the System menu and select Restart to restart the emulated system so the fonts work.

Drag the file you downloaded onto the emulated desktop again.

Open the icon that appears and, this time, open the How God Makes God folder and run the program.

Tips: At the start, choose About for the introduction; Start skips to the chapter after that. It may be too fast to start with; click the little S icon to adjust dialog speed and pause length. For fullscreen, mouseover the Apple logo at lower left, then click Full Screen.

The 2026 Gender Census is now open!

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!

christmas is kind of like if for 1/6 of the year everyone got really into ska and started wearing the fedoras and checkered clothing and they only played ska music in stores that the employees clearly weren't enjoying and everything was just ska themed for a while and one day someone eagerly asks you what ska you're listening to and when you tell them you're not doing the whole ska thing for the tenth time in a row its like a 50/50 chance that their face suddenly falls deathly serious and they say "are you one of those people who thinks all orphans should be drowned in boiling shit?" or they chuckle and squint at you and say "oh yeah you must be one of those people that listens to pop punk! Its kinda like a weird, different ska I guess! I am going to a ska concert later today if you wanna come along and see how awesome ska is, as enforced by the ephemeral force of enjoying ska instilled in all moral beings!" and this has been going on for so long that all the ska music is just people saying "pick it up" over and over again and plastering everything in checker patterns and theres a whole wave of people who think everyone has forgotten how to really enjoy ska but they actually just want an older version of the artificially enforced ska mania everyone is having and they made a book and several movies called "the man who did not like ska" about a disgusting evil spinach creature that hated everything and ate broken glass every day who learns basic empathy after hearing an upstrummed guitar for the first time.
