the mercy cut
is finished.
This particular Skywalker Family Saga takes as its starting point Padmé attempting to kill Anakin on Mustafar, and runs wild into Rebellion, Force machinations, ghosts of generations past, dragons, queer women, and what is hopefully an interesting exploration of what justice and responsibility look like in Star Wars.
I have loved writing it. I hope you will love reading it.
the mercy cut, 330k, rated E for queer sex scenes (one per installment) and canon-typical violence. Luke & Leia, Padmé Amidala/Sabé, Barriss Offee/Ahsoka Tano, Leia & Jyn Erso, Luke & Anakin, Leia & Anakin.
In a secret compartment at the side of her bed—the bed they shared—there is a dagger. Long as her forearm, slim, elegant, deadly, it slides neatly from its hiding to sit against her skin, under her sleeve. She opens and closes her hand, remembering Sabé’s training, until the dagger leaps into her palm at the speed of thought.
the first of the mercy cut’s side stories is finished!
green’s your color, 51k, rated M for depression and suicidal ideation. Barriss/Ahsoka, Barriss & Mace Windu, Barriss & Shaak Ti, Barriss & Luminara Unduli, Barriss & Yoda.
I’m sorry, Barriss wants to say. A hundred words spring to her lips and die there: I swore to protect you, but I can’t protect you from myself. I can’t protect myself from myself. I swore to follow you, but I must navigate my own madness first. I swore to love you, and I do, but—
You should have known better than to trust me.
Or: Barriss learns to live with having committed an atrocity.
Ten years ago today, I published the first chapter of i remember summer, dimly. I spent six years writing the story that began with that chapter, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life in many ways. Thank you to the friends I made and the lessons I learned as I wrote it. Here’s to another ten years.
