Of course, lovely anonymous friend! 💙 I have been very quiet lately, but that's partly because the thing I've been putting a LOT of work into is a new story for a fandom event, and I cannot actually share that anywhere, per event rules. 😅
BUT. That doesn't mean I can't give you some resplendence. 😉 Heads up, to you and to all interested parties - mild nsfw below the cut!
He sighed as her enthusiasm ground them together, and froze for a moment, as if thinking; but after a moment he made a sound of resignation, and began walking her backwards toward the stone bench.
Until now, Andromeda hadn't understood why different sections were at different heights, the bench rising and falling like a wave, all around the edges of the pool. But when a real wave of sloshing water lifted her off her feet and up into a high stone seat near to the surface, she understood - her hips were now almost perfectly aligned with his. Instincts surged within her, and legs spread, knees bracketing his hips excitedly. Perhaps he intended to begin again?
But then he pulled himself of her loose hold, stepping back and making Andromeda huff in disappointment.
“Impatient,” he scolded lightly, giving her a crooked smile as he sat on a lower portion of the same stone bench she rested on. “We have not even begun to bathe yet.”
Andromeda sighed, turning sideways. The bench was smoothly sloped, and if she sat like this, then her feet would rest in his lap. “If we are only going to get dirty again, then it does not make sense to bathe twice,” she said, trying to flutter her eyelashes like the kitchen girls had.
Perseus laughed, and picked up one of her feet, lifting it out of the water. He dropped a kiss on her ankle, and she caught her breath as he nuzzled her calf. Smirking up at her, he reached his free hand back, into a niche on the wall, to grab a clay jar of oil that sat there. Pouring a little of the sweet-scented liquid into his palm, he lifted her foot higher and began to rub the oil into her leg. “I rather think you will enjoy the washing process enough to repeat it,” he said blithely, eyes dancing. “And even if you don't, I will.”
Andromeda bit her lip, fighting the reflex to giggle and jerk her foot. She may have just learned that he was ticklish, but that did not mean that she was eager to reveal a similar weakness. But when his thumb dug into the pad of her foot, she couldn't quite suppress a flinch - which he noted, immediately. Lifting his head, he gave her a very wicked smile, and redoubled his grip. “Stop struggling,” he chided gleefully. “If you know where best to dig your clever fingers into me, surely it is only fair for me to have equal knowledge?”
“My knowledge of those places is still rather limited,” Andromeda squeaked, practically vibrating as she tried not to kick him. He would deserve it for tormenting her, but she did not know how he would take a blow not meant entirely in jest...
He laughed, and eased up, replacing his thumb with his lips - a touch so delicate it was almost more maddening. “I am sure you will find them all in time,” he assured her, winking. “Though not before I find yours.”
Look, this is my litmus test: I pretend I am the original Earl of Sandwich. I have asked for non-bread foods to be brought to me inside bread, that I might more easily consume them one-handed while gambling.
This does not enable my wretched regency habits. This is not what I asked for. I do not deign to grace it with the name of my house.
In my opinion, this quote from The Titan’s Curse is one of the most important moments for Percy’s character in the whole series. Here he is, still a kid, pushing down his fear and choosing a prophecy that could easily end in his death, all to protect Nico from that very same burden. He admits in the next few lines that he doesn’t want it, but he steps up and claims it anyway to spare a kid who hates him. It’s the selflessness and compassion that Percy displaye here in willingly shouldering such a heavy burden that, to me, truly makes him such a remarkable hero. There are so many stories about heroes having a great destiny, but Percy really stands out here because of his choice. He accepts the personal pain and suffering that could potentially come out of this prophecy and doesn’t shy away from it, just to save Nico. To me it’s this moment that truly shows that Percy is the child of the prophecy, not just because of his choice, but because of what his choice proves about who he is - a courageous, selfless person who is truly strong enough to fulfill his destiny and lead the demigods. I honestly still feel proud every time I reread this scene.
The BEST trope is when a character tells another “let’s run away together, we can leave all of this behind and start a new life somewhere” and gets rejected. And then the rest of the tragedy unfolds
no cus i truly believe that if ethan had lived he and percy would become really good friends after the events of the giant war. he notices percy is no longer spewing "but the gods are the good guys!!" rhetoric bs, which makes him much more pleasant to be around to ethan
