Re: update 2017

In such a short amount of time a lot has happened—new city, new school, new job, new faces, etc. It has been really hard for me to process it all, so I will try to journal my thoughts. Maybe launching my deepest thoughts into the binary code that makes up tumblr will help.

I feel like I’m really living my 20’s, by that I mean broke, emotional, lost and somewhat optimistic.

School is taking forever, but I hope this drastic change will go in my favor.

I have dog and she’s the best pupper!

Not being able to smoke as freely really sucks, but it’s a sacrifice. I’m hoping to get my rec soon so I can ease my constant anxiety, it’s cheaper than a therapist.

The older I get the more I realize that people are fucking horrible. On the upside, I’ve met a few great people—a few.

I’ve been reading more books, which has been so satisfying! Books stimulate my very busy mind and it’s a great way to escape technology, which has been nothing more than a nuisance recently.

I don’t ever want children, ever. It has been decided!

I sometimes have this irrational fear that my girlfriend, who attends one of the top schools in the nation, will become smarter than me and drop me like a tortilla fresh off the comal.

I know none of this is very positive, however I can actually see myself being very happy, very soon.

I felt the need to put together a compilation of various latinas in Hollywood of African descent speaking (what for many of them is) their first language, having either been born in Latin America or the first generation born in the United States to parents who immigrated to the U.S. from their native country. In a perfect world footage like this wouldn’t even be necessary to make a point, but Afro Latinxs–and especially those who only speak English–are frequently overlooked, whitewashed, and/or culturally discredited due to colorism in their own community and much of society itself. But they are here, standing at the intersection of black excellence and latin pride, and they are family.
