Jinx scoffed as her eyes drifted to the side, not bothering to look at Caitlyn as they reluctantly stood side by side right now. Geez, Pilties really thought the world revolved around them. Typical. Even now, Caitlyn had to try and find a way to spin this about her. If Jinx was intent on making her life a living Hell, she wouldn't have to guess. She'd know— but Jinx had enough on her plate as it is, she didn't have time to think something up to screw her over. At least for now.
"Don't flatter yourself. You're not my top priority, toots," she spat offhandedly, "I don't know if you noticed, but we've got quite the circus in town. Thanks for that, by the way."
This was the first time Caitlyn and Jinx stood - somewhat peacefully - even near each other and everything about it felt strange. Caitlyn couldn't help but feel that the girl would pounce on her at any moment. ❝ you're not exactly mine either ❞ for once. Though it did pose a problem that ‘ the beast ’ they'd been tracking was at the middle of this.
❝ I can't exactly do much about that - but I'm making a plan - to buy your family some time.❞ kind of. Ambessa was already somewhat taken care of - but everyone else down here - was still an issue.
only glancing up as the tools were set before him, brows furrows a little at the pliers handed to him and held it back to her. at least the ribbon cable was right and he couldn't expect her to know it off by heart, he supposed. ❝ red handles, used to cut wire. ❞ he explains without so much as a glance in her direction and once taken, he goes back to fiddling with wires, goggles pulled down as he solders them in place. another moment passes before he finally lifts the goggles again and glances over towards caitlyn, checking to see if she'd gotten the right pair of pliers this time.
❝ i'm working on the next era of technology, and jayce is in the forge. ❞ or at least he was last time he was told, unless he'd wandered off somewhere. he'd better not, they had a lot of work to get done and not nearly enough time to get it finished until the speech coming up soon. ❝ he is forging new parts for the gauntlet he's working on. ❞ meanwhile viktor is focused on the wiring of the hexclaw.
Caitlyn looked at him with a discouraged look on her face , walking back over to the tool box with a small huff , picking up the red pair , which he could have just asked her for. ❝ better ? ❞ she raised a brow holding them up to show him , not getting too close to his project in fear that she'd break it somehow.
❝ it must be fun - creating all these cool things - a new era sounds important ❞ her tone was lighter now , the things she'd seen in Jayce's labs were like nothing else she'd seen before. ❝ I'm glad Jayce has a friend that knows the same things he does - he tries to tell me sometimes - but there's so much to remember ❞. Caitlyn didn't know how they did it , all she knew was that engineering of sorts was not in her future.

༊⋆｡˚ cast a glance to the femme —- raised brow at the comment . yearned to be of help but truly didn’t know how to be . casting solemn glance toward the pavement below , she could empathise . her own precious necessities , torn away from her with the utmost brutality . ❛ it is difficult when you don’t know how to retrieve such . ❜
Caitlyn , having fallen into such a hole of despair amid her grief for her mother - now faced standing on the other side of her mistakes , oversights that had caused her loss and others pain. The commander found herself doubting her own choices - frightened to do right for doing wrong.
❝ have you ever found yourself fighting for the wrong things ❞ briefly looking up towards the other , ❝ being in the middle of something you thought was right , surrounded by people who believed in the cause - only to realise you wanted nothing to do with it ❞ , that maybe it was too late to stop it.
'Huh? What? I'm awake, I swear!' Jayce mumbled, he hadn't slept in days and been keeping an eye on Caitlyn since Cassandra passed, a quiet ask by Tobias.
Caitlyn wasn't doing much sleeping herself - refusing the sedative her father had offered , several times. She was somewhat thankful for the company , but pretending she was managing was getting harder , and the enforcer did not want to cry in front of Jayce. Curled up in her bed - truly she was missing the warmth and safety that Vi offered her.
❝ you can sleep you know ❞ , her eye's flickering over to him , ❝ I'll be fine ❞. She didn't have the energy to disappear or run. Caitlyn just wanted to fall apart - on her own. ❝ and I won't tell my father - if that's who you're worried about ❞.
To say she found herself in an odd situation... well, that was putting it mildly, she thought. Of course, she fought tooth and nail against being babysat by Vi's—... ex, but as hard as she fought, Vi fought harder which resulted in Rachel pacing to and fro in Caitlyn's office.
“Fine—but I'm holding you to that. I mean it, Caitlyn. Wake. Me. Up. If Vi comes back... or if, knock on wood, something happens... to her, and she needs help, wake me up.” With that said, whilst eyeing the other with contempt, Rachel settles on the couch. Silence blanketed the room, but it isn't long before Rachel penetrates it once more. “...Nothing will happen to her, right?”
Rachel's pacing was not only - distracting , it was somewhat alarming to her. Caitlyn still cared about Vi - she always would , despite their past she couldn't help but have her own worries about the brawler. ❝ I promise - I will wake you ❞. There was no use to the girl stewing in her anxieties , pushing past the claws of sleep. Caitlyn felt a small relief when Rachel actually settled - the room stilled for a moment.
Caitlyn soon takes a seat back at her desk , just across from Rachel , taking a moment to rub at her temples in search to soothe a little of the building pressure , eyes snapping open when Rachel speaks again. A question that Caitlyn really couldn't affirmatively answer…
❝ vio- ❞ she cleared her throat , starting again - realising she was about to call the girl by her full name. ❝ Vi , hopefully went into this with at least some kind of plan - I believe that she'll be okay ❞ she needed to believe that.
“ We all feel ⸺ lost in the dark, as it were, at times. It's simple human nature. ” The herald pauses, hand tightening its hold on his staff. “ Perhaps a change of course will lighten the burden. Steering away from violence is never be the wrong path. ”
❝ it's not that easy ❞ the commander rolls her neck , burdened by the weight of her mistakes. Caitlyn had ventured so far past lost in the prior months it seemed that now any decision was the wrong one.
❝ there are so many things set in motion - and I - I just gave the okay because I thought it was the right thing , but I'm starting to regret so many choices ❞ , top of her list - listening to Ambessa.
[ BLANKET ]: having found the receiver either sleeping or just lying on the couch, sender gently takes a blanket and drapes it over them.
[ TEA ]: sender prepares a mug of hot tea for the receiver.
[ COOK ]: in an effort to boost the receiver’s spirits, sender arrives with all the ingredients needed to make it

❝ you didn't have to drop everything to come and take care of me you know ? ❞ she pout's , snuggling deeper into the blanket that Jayce had laid over her shivering body and sipping on the mug of tea he'd brewed for her , Caitlyn was sick and mopping , she'd come back from her school dorm to be in her home comforts only to discover that her parents were out of town - another business trip. ❝ I just sort of laid down and couldn't bring my self to get back up ❞ .
❝ are you sure you should be here - you don't want to catch what ever this is ❞ , she'd been taken out for three days already , no sign of improving yet but Caitlyn was over it. She had no patience when it came to recovery , and the fact it was affecting her studies was mentally weighing her down.
She'd seen the bag of ingredients Jayce had tried to sneak past her , ❝ if you're making anything - please let it be soup ❞ , she didn't have the stomach for much else.
"No you don't get it." Jinx stated, a little louder than she had been, irritation settling into her voice.
"I don't KNOW what's right anymore. Ok when I blew up that counsel room I was just trying to do what I thought was right. Like Silco did. I didn't blow it up for fun I was making a statement. The wrong one I guess... but what even is right anymore... would anything have changed if we hadn't shown we were serious?"
"And how long would we have waited? We already had... we waited decades for you guys to understand we're people..... how many more of us had to die before you understood we were sick of it? I was just... I was doing what he wanted... for what I thought were the right reasons..."
"But it's pretty clear I don't know anything anymore... I can't save or protect anyone... the only thing I'm good at is breaking stuff.... whats one big hole you can fill in all at once compared to the cracks in the foundation I seem to cause that ruin everything...? Maybe that is the only right thing I can do... leave."
God she wished Vi was awake - Caitlyn was probably the absolute worst person to be trying to talk any sense into Jinx in this state. She was everything the girl hated down to her core but - she had to try , in Vi's absence … she had to try.
❝ do you think - that anyone really knows what right it ❞ Caitlyn breathed , ❝ everyone has their own beliefs , you and I never managed to meet in the middle - not until … Vi's safety came into the picture ❞ and then it was team work ? strange but they'd both wanted the same thing.
❝ I cannot speak for the enforcers that came before me , their actions aren't mine and while I chose this path to follow in their footsteps I've learnt so much along the way that the path set is not always the path that works ❞.
❝ I've made mistakes Jinx , trying to protect my people because I thought my actions were right , something I'm sure you can say you relate to ❞ as much as it annoyed Caitlyn to point out their similarities - she'd be foolish to ignore it.
Letting out a breath , her eyes raising to watch the girl now a mild ache settling into her knees. ❝ I had an army around me when I lost mother , and I still became somebody I hated , but you ? you were alone trying to battle through grief of losing your father figure. In those moments it doesn't matter who they were - what the did to anyone else , it's who they were to you , and the splintering void they leave behind ❞ , Caitlyn's mother had guided her through most of her life choices , always offering her opinion ( wanted or not ) on what she thought was best. Caitlyn never knew how much she could miss that - until she was gone.
❝ you were trying to survive - with the skills you'd been taught ❞. Piltover was the enemy. ❝ just because they weren't right - it doesn't mean it was your fault. ❞
She'd rearranged her face by the time the councilwoman turned to greet her, recovering the usual mask of placidity. Smoothly, she shook the proffered hand, aiming for respectful-but-not-obsequious.
"Don't worry, Councilwoman Kiramman. I've tended to more grievous wounds in less desirable settings than these. The journey…also slower than I would have liked. Piltover has seen…some changes since I have been to the City last." A touch of understatement, if that. The bridge between cities still stood, but both sides of the bank saw significant devastation by Viktor's immortal army and Noxian arms. Only years of navigating the Undercity's unpredictable geography helped her cross streets packed with rubble, and the dexterity to clamber across passageways choked with fallen masonry and exhausted labourers.
But the surgeon acquiesces and takes the nearest chair, cushion softer than any surface she'd experienced in some time. Studies Caitlyn from the lean in her torso, the slight slant in her injured leg, the way her knuckles turn white in frustration clutched around the walking stick.
Miriel knew what it was like to feel helpless.
"This…will do." She does not elaborate on what she is referring to. "Perhaps you can start by telling me - what has been done so far? What has the City of Progress done, for Caitlyn Kiramman?"
She let out a breath ,❝ changes is a polite why of putting it ❞ Caitlyn raised a brow , the city was still recovering. Stone buildings that once stood tall were being held up with metal frames , streets were torn up and the population was in a state of mourning for their lost loved ones. Trying to put the city back together was a priority , but a slow process. She had workers in both Piltover and Zaun , clearing rubble and rebuilding what was lost.
Caitlyn , still weak on her feet could feel the tremor start to settle in , only slight but still something that bothered her. She was a woman who was used to being on her feet most days , and now after five minutes her body was sending signals that she needed to sit , to rest. Thankful when Miriel sat , Caitlyn followed in unison , her childhood etiquette still shining through , ‘ do not sit before our guests Caitlyn ’ - running through her mind in her mothers voice.
❝ if I'm being quite honest ❞ , the councilwoman cleared her throat , her stick placed by her side , ❝ I'd like to step away from that narrative , the city of progress doesn't feel like it fits us anymore ❞. Piltover was a mess , and she'd been so deeply mislead.
❝ it's been my home and a place I thought would reign in safety , but with the way I've watched our council treat Zaun , the way this war tore through this city , there is much to be done before we can pride ourselves with such a name ❞.
The physician didn't respond for a while, adjusting the diluents in the drip carefully before flicking a switch for the syringe pump. The contents turned angry red, then orange, finally settling on a sickly looking yellow before Miriel nodded and released the other spindle, allowing the concoction to flow into Caitlynn's veins. Below the device, a gear slowly clicked through teeth, indicating the process of the infusion.
Now all they could do was wait, and the councilwoman's temporary offices happened to be one of the best places to do so.
"The loss of a parent is a terrible thing, even more so for someone as inspirational and unshakeable as the previous matriach of Kiramman. But you've taken on her responsibilities remarkably. Helped to resist the Noxians and start the healing of two divided cities despite their differences. Perhaps you should be happy about that."
Caitlyn sucked in a sharp breath as the liquid started to flow into her , it was cold and strangely it hurt , like she could feel every avenue it was taking seeping through her veins. ❝ remind me what this stuff is again ? ❞ she frowned. Caitlyn's father was in no position to treat her , but with so much on her plate , she'd been running herself into the ground. Her mothers death the mere tip of the ice burg.
❝ I've had to do those things , they're what's expected of me ❞ she didn't look away from the need in her arm , glad that she was at least in the comfort of her make shift office. Caitlyn wasn't up for letting people down into her mothers old office yet , keeping that place private remained important to her.
❝ it's hard to be happy about anything - despite the progress , nothing feels like it's enough. ❞ Nothing was filling the big empty void in Caitlyn's chest.
Luna studied the woman in front of her, from how she was holding her pen, the anxious tapping of her foot, to the nervous energy that seemed to be practically radiating off the officer. The teenager could not help but smirk ever so slightly, oh this was going to be so much fun for her.
"I'm your very first interrogation, aren't I?" Luna grins at officer Caitlyn and leans a little back further into her chair, completely deflecting the question she had asked her. "I'm not sure if I should honoured or offended at this."
Caitlyn's eyes widened ❝ how did you - ❞ losing her cool for a moment , her professional tone slipping. Taking a moment to clear her throat and let out a long breath before speaking again. ❝ you are my first , on the field I suppose , but that doesn't undermine any training I've had prior , nor the years of work I've put in to make it to this position ❞. This job - not only a defiance against her mother , was something she actually wanted for herself. She couldn't screw this up.
❝ this isn't a personal interview on me ❞ , the enforcer reminded , straightening herself in her own chair across from the other. ❝ now if you you please answer my previous question , what were you doing before you came across the crime scene ❞. A small furrow in her brow , pinching at her pen impatiently.

He could have managed to decipher it; yet his ears were so preoccupied with noise and filtering some input out. Minding the team, their breathing and tendency for speech. All the noises of home that were like a nice warm blanket on a cold day. Even with constant awareness of the uniform, mask as well the whole mission on his psyche.
The pointing and indicator much more clear. Keeping from signing his acknowledging response; itch of an reflex brought on by the environment. Instead nodding his head to show he understood. Had intended to stick by the two of them anyways.
Caitlyn nodded back in approval , walking ahead along side Vi leading her team through the smoky Zaun streets. With Jinx no where in sight the commander wanted to reconvene with her troops , finding a spot Vi deemed ‘ safe ’ for them to take a moments rest bite taking her time to check in with each of them.
❝ are you holding up well ? ❞ she speaks , addressing Steb , her mask now removed in their small area of peace. ❝ there is no time limit on this mission so please do alert me if there's anything wrong. ❞
hey angels , long time no speak - at least ooc , I'm still around and kicking , the queue has been doing all the work. I'm struggling mentally a little right now so it's why I've been quiet on all other fronts. I'm hoping to get back to regular posting and things soon.

Caitlyn smiled at Powder from the couch where she and Vi were sitting , and Powder was cosied up in the arm chair for their movie night. They'd had popcorn and snacks , and were on their third movie. Vi was already curled up to Caitlyn snoozing on her chest , the sheriff's gentle hand threading it's way through the brawlers hair. Caitlyn rarely let herself have nights like this , it had taken some convincing and comparison that a night in with family was just as , if not more important than when she was a child being forced to spend a night attending some high society gala. Vi was right , and Caitlyn had enjoyed just relaxing with the two of them.
❝ You can go up to bed you know ❞ Caitlyn offered , the movie was almost finished anyway and Caitlyn didn't see herself moving from the couch until Vi woke up , she felt too bad to wake her , especially when she was sleeping so peacefully.
❝ or , curl up and sleep there - wherever you're comfortable Powder ❞.
