"Actually, Mom's doing great. She doesn't have to worry about the other clans anymore since they seperated from the Dragon Kingdom." Charmette smiled as she remembered that. "We haven't heard of nor from any of them for a few years now. Honestly, I hope it stays that way." The other clans could do what they wanted, the Western Shinobi wanted no part of the wars that tore their former homeland apart for so many centuries. They were content with Eggma'am's occasional annoyances. The Black Swamp wasn't somewhere the robots could go anyway so the clan was safe out there. Charmette located her warp ring from her pocket, twirling it between her fingers. The device was shiny and slightly worn in places from how much the bee had used it over the years. She got around. A LOT. "Well, it started with Velocity, she used to go by another name before she got her powers. Then a few others started doing it during the war, and it just kind of became a cultural thing over the last few years." She shrugged as she talked about the origin of battle names. "Kind of neat but not needed..." "Alright, you ready? Cause this thing takes me right back to the office. Or...outside it." She held up the warp ring as she speaks, she's already looking forward to this little runion. "Mom was cleaning the office when I left so she should be done by now. Luckily Victoria hasn't ruined our paperwork system.....yet."
"Well that's good for her. Lets hope it stays that way. It sounds like you all have your hands full as it is."
Charmy chuckled as he watched Charmetter grabbed her warp ring. Listening to her explain it all, it made sense. Sonic and Tails were the only two he knew that ever had nicknames such as that, but it seemed to have become a tradition where she was from. Not that it was bad, just interesting to him.
"Ready to go so soon?" He teased in jest. He couldn't blame her too much. After all, the real treat was the ride she got to the location. The bee got up and quickly dusted himself off. "Alright, I guess we can stop by. I am sure she's going to be in for a surprise."
{➹} – IT ALL SEEMED to be quite the mystery. Arrow wouldn't lie and say he wasn't intrigued but it sounded complex at the same time, to put it plainly. To say nothing of the fact that he didn't know the first thing about the planet, apart from what he had been told, let alone the origins of anything related.
Still...he was to wonder, but he was a curious soul.
"I s'ppose that's more a 'freetime' activity," he concluded, not wanting to push it, though not wanting to completely dismiss it either. It was a task for another time. "Though, having come from that side myself, I know there's not much of it t' go around."
He figured, if the others did learn anything, it would be a moment of opportunity that offered that chance and not much more. Only time would tell. There was no point in dwelling on it otherwise, and the hedgehog was happy to move things along once more.
"For about eighteen years, yeah. Was a ironic twist of fate that ended that story though." Maybe he would have gone into detail, maybe not. It was up for the others to decide as the hero's ears perked and his head soon turned towards the commotion. Seeing the human was surprising enough, but watching them book it down the hall was enough to make Arrow chuckle.
The scene wasn't so unlike one from when he was a young teenager.
Passing a humored look to Otto, the hedgehog raised a playful brow. "Lively place, innit?"
"For now, it is. There is a chance it will become a necessity, but we will cross the bridge when we get to it."
"You're telling me. That makes you one of the lucky ones. I'm a little jealous, to be honest." The smile on Otto's face helped sell the playful nature of his statement. He was more glad for Arrow than anything and hoped that things stayed that way for him. Only time would tell if the Hyperforce would get similar luck, although things were much more complex for them.
They had to worry about more than one individual.
"Sounds a little familiar." The silver robot nodded in sympathy. "It seems like all ended well for you, for the most part anyways. While I am curious to know more, I can understand that those subjects could be a bit touchy for some. It often comes with sacrifice."
"Some more than others." Otto chimed in, his smile quickly fading and his gaze fixated on Antauri's metallic body; a glimpse into what the team that truly sacrificed to get as far as they had come. The silver mentor took note, placing a hand on Otto's shoulder. "I am just glad you're still here."
It was that moment when the interruption occurred. Otto's infectious smile came back with Arrow's comment, turning back to face his friend. "The kid certainly livens up the place. We certainly could use more of that around here at times."
"Chiro, Sparx, Nova! We have a visitor." The three soon would enter the room to greet Arrow. There wasn't much a surprised look that came over any of them, but there were some curious looks.
"The name's Chiro, it's nice to meet you."
"I'm S-P-R-X-7-7, but you can call me Sparx."
"And I'm Nova. Apologies for the outburst, but a couple of knuckleheads decided it would be funny to try to pull a prank." The yellow cyber-simian's gaze fixated on the other two who merely sheepishly chuckled. Although, soon enough the boy's curiosity took over at the sight of the hedgehog.
"Say, you're from that planet Otto mentioned, right?"
Finally made it! I was eager to draw something with a background. It took me more time than I expected because the first coloring I did wasn't to my liking. I was on the brink of losing motivation, but then I remembered that's why I ended up quitting drawing years ago. (LONG STORY)
It was really difficult to get back on track, but I realized drawing matters to me, so I'll keep trying until I improve my skills regarding my insecurities: I KNOW I CAN DO IT.

Full-body simple character commission for @greenmechanicalgenius! Thank you for commissioning!!!
the idea did make basswood wonder if he shouldn't drag the fox along on an adventure or two someday. just to see friends in other places at first, then maybe some random encounters later on. he filed that one away for later as wisteria gave a little chuckle at the fox's regard for the crystals.
"well, according to history, they do have a habit of making those who use them sick. very sick. i'm still not sure how we got away okay when we collected them all again, but maybe they just like us?" she really had no clue, that was one of many mysteries about the gems in question. maybe they had gotten lucky, maybe it was something else. they really didn't know.
it was an ongoing thing.
the speedster seemed alright to drop the subject, however. for good reason, but still grinned at the fox. ❝ coming from two people who do know their families and don't get along that well, it's probably for the best. everybody's different, or whatever, but it worked out in our case. er, cases.❞
"that's right. it took a while, but i think we're all pretty happy now."
"They tend to 'like us' and a few others in particular it seems." He couldn't help but point out the similarities at that moment. "Still, it's best to be careful."
"Yeah, I guess the family you choose ends up being stronger than any blood relation. Still, I do wonder sometimes what things would be like if I knew my parents at all. Not for very long though, because I am grateful for the family I do have now. I can't say my life has ended up the way I ever envisioned, but I would consider myself to be very happy."
The fox chuckled a little at the thought of it all. Still, he did wonder if it meant that he had more family than he did now if he knew them...Or if it would have made the pain of his past that much worse. There was a lot he would have changed, but then he might not have ended up where he was now. So perhaps it was best not to dwell on the what if's.
"So besides dealing with any Egg-shaped pests, what else do you two do around here for fun?"
{➹} – NO ONE THERE would argue that much. It was easy for the four of them to say, because they had gotten over the hump and accepted the power for what it was. All at their own times, in their own ways, but accepted nonetheless. They had fought with it, tried to reason with it and everything in between before getting to that point, however.
Arrow did frown at Lil's recollection, or lack thereof. Again, it all sounded a little too familiar to the older hedgehog, and he shifted his weight. Maybe there was a better time to ask this, but it was there and he wanted to address it.
"An'...you're sure there's not...something else there?" He didn't think he needed to elaborate on what he meant. Lil knew of Dark, though Arrow couldn't recall just how much he had gone into detail about he and the entity. "I know it sounds batty, but you're sounding a lot like I did with Dark. Minus the irritating voice in the back of my head."
A silence lingered, clearly one of thought on all parts. It was broken only when Lil spoke again, and Knuckles snorted as a reply.
"It could, actually. Probably not in the way ya think though," the echidna jabbed a thumb towards the direction where The Shrine was. Near or far, he always knew exactly where it was. "Take The Master Emerald, for example. It can pick and choose its Guardians, and for a long time we echidna thought it had to do with bloodlines."
"But that is not the case," Tikal confirmed. "It can pick based on many factors. Dutifulness, trust, even based on special circumstances. It is very aware, and the same, we know now, can be said of the emeralds. Chaos Energy is the same in many ways."
Lil' didn't even respond to Arrow's question...And tried his best to not even acknowledge the possibility. But in truth, if he was sure, they wouldn't be discussing the possibilities of what was going on. Plus the thought of himself having a similar figure like Dark wasn't a possibility he wanted to be reminded of. Some things added up, sure, but still...There had to be other explanations.
He was all too eager to pretend the other hedgehog hadn't asked the question when the echidna spoke up again, but that only seemed to make things feel more confusing. It seemed all they were doing was coming up with possibilities, but not getting closer to an actual lead any of them could follow.
"So I need to appease it now? Some people do say that worship could be the result of fear. If I am honest, the idea of getting on my hands and knees just to make some mystical, sentient energy happy doesn't sound like it would work." The suggestion wasn't meant to be serious, but given how fruitless everything seemed to have been currently, he needed something to keep himself going, even if it lacked any sensibility.
"If Chaos energy had it's own form of sentience...And each universe had it's own 'rules' that it follows, then why does it seem like any Chaos energy I seem to try to channel doesn't conform to anything of those? Like it's rebelling, choosing it make it's own rules or just disregard them all entirely? Wouldn't it make sense I had to conform to how that energy works here and conform differently elsewhere? Just because I'm-"
Lil' stopped himself, realizing what he was about to bring up. It was a road he didn't want to travel down at that moment. A lot of bad memories. He let that sentence trail off.
"Am I really such an anomaly?"
I went through my thread tracker and archived any tracked threads that had a last reply from before May. If you're still interested in continuing one of those threads, send me a message, but for now I want to keep things organized and focus on stuff that is relatively active at the moment. And focus on getting some stuff off my to-do list for this blog.
Now there was a mental image. Volt was aware that Harmony usually used the fact that everyone tended to underestimate her to get the upper hand. Could the same happen if she wasn't expecting a sparring partner to be able to match her? There was one way to find out, but they'd have to wait until the teen was home and he could bring it up.
"She'll have a blast even if she does." He couldn't even count anymore how often he'd seen his daughter get sent flying by Mighty or Knuckles because she did it on purpose. Luckily, they always got a kick out of it.
"I'm sure ya will be." A bit of reassurance to go with his smile. "Ya got a good head on your shoulders, but ya still got plenty o' time t' find out."
His smile slowly shifted to a grin. "And if ya ever need a babysitter, ya know where t' come. I promise not t' sugar 'em up before I send 'em home."
"It would certainly be different for her. I don't think she has any sparring partners that are able to truly fly like I do." It would certainly force her to get creative and that's what Charmy tended to do. If his opponent's couldn't get creative, he often had the upper hand. Of course being raised by two detectives from two different background also gave him experience in different fighting styles. It came in handy.
"For sure. I don't know when that will be. I think there are still a few things I need to handle over in my zone before I think I would be ready for something like that, especially letting things calm down a bit more." Charmy couldn't help but get a chuckle at the other's offer and promise. "Trust me, if my kid ends up being like me, then sugaring them up would be a grave mistake."
❝ i love the smell of sea salt. don’t you? ❞ @ Lil 🎶
"It's not bad. I prefer it over the processed garbage that someone I knew...contaminated my home with it."
The stranger popping up to comment about the sea salt smell was surprising, but not an unwelcome sight. He offered a friendly smile.
"As long as I'm not in the water, it's all fine by me."
❝ you look like you're one bad minute away from exploding, dude. what's up? ❞ not the state basswood expected to find the other in, but he could try to figure out why.
"It would be nice if people stopped messing with my family. It's a good way to get under my skin."
Lil' sighed a bit before looking over at Basswood.
"But you know the feeling of dealing with jerks."
"Do us a favor and scram, before I make you!"
Someone was not going to tolerate his name being mentioned like that, much less in that manner and to a person he considered family.
Charmette breifly wondered what the difference was between normal Mobian Honey Bee hives and the Killer Bee kind that her hive had been. But she already knew that answer: persistence. That's why she's glad her hive was long gone already... She'd never have to deal with what Charmy had. Thank Chaos for that. Small blessings. "I am known to accept every version of the Chaotix across the worlds as family." She nodded with his comment about the loyalty they had to friends and family. "...Unless they're the polar opposite of what we stand for." "We haven't seen Mori in forever. But I think Mom got a visit from Espio back when we still lived in the Black Swamp with the rest of the clan." Charmette remembered that visit. "She updated him on the latest developments, including the fact that Mom is now head of the Western Shinobi Clan. The clan split in half when her and her dad had a HUGE fight over how best to take care of their people. You can get the story from Mom, it's kind of sad...but I know she'll be happy to see you!"
"Yeah...I know, bro." She nudged him with her arm when he spoke about how he was always here for her. Locating her phone to recover her number. "You'd think I'd have this memorized by now but...NOPE. Also...I earned my battle name after losing my wing. You know...the nicknames some Mobians go by once they get their powers or fighting style. Some people...have started calling me Swarm."
"I haven't met one such Chaotix that are like that...Then again I think most Chaotix don't go out into the multiverse much." Charmy added. They were different in that way, apparently. He was just glad he could have the opportunity, not that his own home was boring, but getting to see how other zones were was fascinating. It help him shaped how he analyzed people. Perhaps helping him be a better detective.
"Espio never told me about that...Strange. It's not like him to let something like that slip his mind." The older bee commented. Had they really been that busy for something like that to slip through the cracks? "That sounds like it must be taking a toll on Espia though. Personally, I don't trust the Shinobi clan Mori and Espio are apart of. Something about they way the other members of that clan look at me that puts me on edge. They've had a history of infighting before, but even after Espio's mom was able to quash all of that I feel like they look at me as a way for them to get leverage."
"Swarm, huh? Well if it's all the same to you, I prefer to call you sis." Charmy teased as he gently nudged her back. "Although, I guess it's different for us, huh? I don't think I've heard of others getting battle names though. Unless they are supposed to be like, codenames or something, that's a new one for me."
a thoughtful air came over the two hedgehogs for a moment. smaller than most, huh? that could be a few alternates they had met so far, but there was one in particular that both basswood and wisteria lingered on. whether or not it was the same sonic gold was talking about was up for debate though. at least for now.
❝ we barely get other versions of tails around here. we know they're out there but they don't seem to visit as much as some alternates. ❞ he didn't know if that was a good or bad thing though. what the fox might do with that information and whatever else other versions of him might have to offer was anyone's guess.
though the pair had a feeling it might cause a bit of a spiral in their friend.
wisteria shifted her weight. the emeralds and the crystals did have some similarities. "yeah, the crystals were so bad that a whole league of elders decided to hide them behind some pretty insane security measurements centuries ago. until eggman came along, they were totally safe."
clearly no longer the case. but it was always interesting to the pair to hear how other verisons of their friend group were, and how they had met. still, one thing seemed to be a common theme between them all...
❝ meh, blood's overrated. family's better when you can choose it. ❞
"Guess they really don't get out very often then? It would do them a bit of good, if you asked me." Gold joked a little. It was surprising to hear that the other foxes didn't end up visiting other zones. Maybe it was because blue hedgehogs tend to be more adventurous? "From what I've heard, I am not surprised they don't stick with their own Sonics when they are out visiting other places like this."
"Well I hope they aren't at dangerous as the Emeralds I know...I wouldn't want to be caught dealing with them myself, at least, from what I have seen. Considering those crystals of yours were sealed for a reason, lets hope you don't have to find out the reason why."
The notion Basswood brought up, however, was enough for Gold to smile a little and nod in agreement. "I can't agree more. But I guess that's easy for me to say, given I didn't know my blood relatives. Sonic really didn't have any blood relatives that he knew either...Well, except maybe one, but I really didn't get to know him that well before the two of us ended up on our own to find out."
{➹} – THE HEDGEHOG GAVE the pair a look that said it wasn't a big deal. It wasn't, truly. A handful of years ago that may not have been the case, but Arrow had come a long way from certain tendencies and fears. That wasn't to say he wasn't still affected by some things, but nothing quite as simple as having a weapon a few feet from him.
Least, not when it wasn't aimed at him.
Either way, it seemed that the team had more to their story than the hero originally assumed. And a confusing one at that, obvious enough from the way the hedgehog tilted his head a bit. "Is that because you don't want t' dig int' them, or because you can't because you're just that busy?"
Arrow had a feeling he knew which one it was given the overall air of the room and the simians in general. He wondered if it really mattered, knowing sometimes that the past was a hindrance to the future. Or even the present.
In fact, a lot of what was being said sounded familiar to the hero, and that was why he gave a little snort hearing Otto's worry regarding their leader. "Now that sounds a bit familiar. Pretty sure my own team thought something similar there at the end with Robotnik, but I got out alright. And that's saying something."
Still, he was reassured that him being there wasn't going to be any real problem. He trusted Otto, after all. And the others, of course.
"Don't really have the time mainly. We were hoping to have a breather after the first time we vanquished the Skeleton King, but unfortunately we didn't get that opportunity."
"We haven't even considered what the information could mean...or if we really even want to know."
"I am surprised to hear you say that. I figured you would want to know the truth."
"That kind of information could be a double edge sword, no?"
"Potentially, but it might be to valuable to us to ignore for long."
Otto nodded at that fact. To him, his origins didn't really matter that much. It didn't change what he was dealing with now. The two would smile when Arrow mentioned the familiarity, taking their minds off the previous part of the conversation.
"So, you've heard you mention this...Robotnik? Was he the one who kept you busy back at your home?"
The group would be interrupted moments later with a booming yell. "SPARX! CHIRO! GET BACK HERE YOU TWO!" Only to be followed up with the mixed sounds of laughter and panic as a red simian and an adolescent human teenager were running out of one of the hallways nearby, followed by the yellow simian, clearly the receiving end of the two boys' prank, and fuming."
"And, speaking of the kid..."
{➹} – ALL THE OTHERS could do was guess. Educated guesses, yes, but guesses nonetheless in this case. There were a lot of similar factors regarding Lil and what was going on, but also a lot of foreign ones. Today wasn't about solving the problem as much as it was about trying to open a path to some solution.
Whether that was actually possible or not would be another matter.
'Then you lack trust.' Chaos was as matter as fact as ever, again not in a way meant to be insulting, but just fact. Though they suspected it may not have been taken that way with the look at Arrow gave them after.
But Knuckles was the one to notice the odd way Lil trailed off, and a brow was quirked above the echidna's remaining eye. "And what makes ya think that?"
"It is not impossible," Tikal was quick to add, not wanting Lil to get the wrong idea. To think their own thoughts or opinions weren't valid here. "There are a lot of factors to this, and at the end of the day no one really knows your energy like you do. What you feel, think...it all is important when it comes to your bond with the powers of Chaos."
Arrow nodded. "Not t' mention, at least in the case of the emeralds, they can be a little...barmy. Same goes with the energy in general. It has feelings, moods, and trying t' predict that can be near impossible."
"It's hard to trust something you don't completely understand." Chaos wasn't the only one who could state things as a matter of fact. It was true that he lacked trust in these powers of his, but in his mind he had good reason. The lack of memories of him using these abilities to his fullest made him wonder if he even had any consciousness in the matter. It was like his body became a vessel for something else...
It didn't sit very well with him.
"Because I can't remember a single thing I have done when I managed to fully embrace these abilities. The next thing I remember after reaching that point is it being over...My body feeling like I just buried myself in a bed of coals and my head being scrambled with thoughts and emotions that don't feel like they're my own."
Lil' gazed at his own arms and hands for a moment. There was hint of thought going through his head, but more than that, something just felt off. Why was this so hard to talk about? Why was it so hard for him to nail this down. It felt like something was purposefully getting in the way.
"So you say Chaos Energy is like it's own being?" Lil' responded to Arrow's statements, confused. "Could it just...Not like me or something?"
"Have you ever been camping?" Arrow was genuinely curious as he looked at Otto, though paused a moment before making a casual wave with his hand. "I mean like really camping. In the wild, miles from people and civilization, scrounging this and that just for the fun of it."
"Not really...Shuggazoom isn't a safe place to do that, unfortunately. Not with all the monsters, hazards, formless... Plus I always have to be ready at a moment's notice if the city is under threat or the Skeleton King shows up with one of his schemes.
"Maybe one day I can enjoy some camping somewhere. Perhaps on your planet as opposed to mine? Yours is much safer to do something like that in."
