Hey btw webtoon is implementing AI into their platform. In case you missed that. Can anyone hear me. Webtoon is implementing generative ai. Nobody's talking about it. Is this thing on. I'm so tired
The companies will develop new opt-in tools enabling creators to turn their characters into interactive digital avatars, creating new digita
I've never liked webtoon and I'm tired of it being the primary platform for comic artists.
They severely underpay the artists that allow their platform to even exist. They refuse to advertise comics that don't fit their characters into specific archetypes, I've even heard people getting rejected as webtoon originals entirely because of it. I'm tired of getting softcore pornography as ads from them, I'm tired of people thinking webtoon is their only option.
(Rant ahead. If you don't wanna read all that here's a video covering the ai topic instead)
Does anyone remember tapastic? No, not """tapas""". Tapastic. I joined in 2014 when I was just a kid.
Were you there when it was focused on promoting small artists and fostering a sense of community, with featured sections for new creators and fun little community-led sitewide games, collabs, and trends? There was a big overlap with tumblr users, there's gotta be some of you left.
Now.. Does anyone remember how webtoon bribed comic artists from it to work for poverty wages under the condition that they don't share their work on any other platform, and essentially hand over the rights to their work? Does anyone remember how the huge community there got split up and eventually disappeared entirely, because after several of their more prominent creators started to get pulled away by promises of payment, the staff at tapastic panicked and started scrambling to copy webtoon's poorly-designed lowkey predatory monetization and advertising features, until we got the empty shell called tapas we all know now?
Maybe I'm just an old man yelling at a cloud. I dunno. But. There's something to be said about watching a site that inspired you to become an artist in the first place, somewhere where you could just have fun drawing little ms paint doodles and still feel welcome and encouraged to keep going.. And seeing it get the life sucked out of it by these corporate leeches. Watching it copy webtoon's tactics and push out all of its creatives until we have 20 million The Duchess Sucked My Dick And Made Me A Villainess romantasy comics with the same artstyle and tropes and characters because with those you can make mobile game tier ads with SHOCKING LINES!! MY BROTHER CHEATED ON MY EX... WITH.. A SEXY DEMON LORD?!?!?! CLICK HERE!!!!
There was so much diversity in the kinds of stories you got. Sure, there was always a lot of romance, but you could see each artist's writing and style shine through in a way that made each and every one feel unique. It's hard to really convey how vastly different it is nowadays but just trust me when I say that things were not always like this. This is not my home. You've wrecked my yard, you've taken my wife hostage, and sold her back to me for 5.99 a page..
"They're a company, they're gonna prioritize profits at the end of the day, obviously" Yeah I Know. But I think it's still worth calling out when a corporation completely changes the landscape of an entire media format for the worse. I think it's still worth talking about exploitative practices when you see them. I just wish more people would see it for what it is.
gonna be real asf and morbid here: currently in the USA from my perspective as a black American, in the south they are creating worse voting protection for black voters in Louisiana iirc (jim crow shit essentially) black girls (in the UK too) keep going missing, there is a black femicide. black teens and folks are being murdered and essentially lynched. and their deaths in vain and lost to time because our skin and features don't match the white American. things are scary here.
they wanna teach you that lynching is non-existent after it was outlawed but that's not true, black folks are still being murdered, our fatalities feeding the greedy American soil that has countless blood on it around the world. I'm scared.

The quilting survived the washing machine! And the colors didn’t run! I sure am glad I put the color catchers in though bc they came out almost solid red 😰
rant ahead if u don’t have the energy nor understanding don’t read
Comforting my friends while they know I have aspd is the most fucking draining thing ever. Not only they need comfort but they fucking insult me while I do.
“Well, you’re different because you can choose to care and don’t care like what other people do w social conventions because of your disorder.”
fuck you. you’re fucking nitpicking what symptoms that affect me to make me seem like a better person in YOUR head. I don’t need you to make sense of how I function just to discredit the support I’m giving you. Literally FUCK YOU. Most backhanded shit.
Saying I care bc of my disorder is the most backwards bs I’ve heard. Aspd is the empathy energy deficit disorder because we can’t fucking empathize like prosocials. Yes there are pros in very extreme scenarios but discrediting my care bc of my disorder is the wildest shit ever fuck you man
Theres a sentiment I'm noticing in the tags that I'd like to address. I dont think learning to love bugs with all your heart means forcing yourself out of discomfort you have with them overnight. It's about observing a different sort of being going about its life and deliberately trying to reframe your observations through a sense of wonder and delight. It's about cultivating a positive interest and curiosity for their ecology and behaviors. It's especially about trying to uncouple the value we find in them from how 'convenient' they are to us; to face head on the part of us that wants to assign moral evil to another organism who just happens to live life in a way that is not harmonius with ours. You can love insects in this way and still recognize your own health and safety needs. We are animals living side by side within a biosphere. This is how it is, sometimes.
I think this is important to cultivate because, if you are alive at all, you are coming into conflict with countless other people and things that dont owe you an apology for their existance and needs. If you are alive at all, you are encountering countless other people and things that harmful bias and personal discomfort have made repulsive to you. This is about bugs, but its also about way more than bugs.
It's hard to explain to the uninitiated that you can just go for a walk just about anywhere with a bit of green (and sometimes even in the heart of a city) and find like a dozen neat little unique guys if you're patient and observant.
People get really into bird watching but here's a secret: bugs are WAY easier to find than birds and they let you get a lot closer.
Try to approach the world with wonder and curiosity rather than fear and revulsion. Bugs are a great place to start.
My journey to loving bugs started from a position of being terrified of many of them, then came a spark of interest, but it wasn't some big moment of clarity that made me instantly love them. It was curiosity, then searches, then wiki dives, then careful distant observation, then close up observation and even handling, slowly cultivating that spark of interest gently into the great appreciation I have for them today.
Learn to love nature, cultivate your understanding, I fully encourage you to get out there. You can absolutely do so at your own pace, learning takes time! Your patience will be rewarded.
hey, does anyone have any book recommendations for learning about Aztec mythology and Maya folklore? I’m very interested in them and I’m going to be going to the Yucatán next year an seeing some sites, and I like to be informed about this kind of this because folklore and mythology is one of my special interests. <3
A relatively recent translation of the Popol Vuh, basically the primary source for Maya mythology, can be found online as a free PDF at this link. The footnotes from the translator are very informative.
For the Aztec there is the Digital Florentine Codex, which is exactly what it sounds like, complete with offering multiple translations. However keep in mind that while it is very much one of the go to sources, it is also a very post conquest source, don't take everything in it at face value.
Tezcatlipoca: Trickster and Supreme Deity is a book collecting the insights of different researchers into the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca, link is to a PDF of it. There's also Mockeries and Metamorphoses of an Aztec God, which to me is the definitive big book of Tezcatlipoca, but it is very dense in info so would not suggest starting there.
Not a book, but Mexicolore is a good website for both Aztec and Maya, well can only vouch for Aztec. Generally geared more towards a younger audience but they also answer questions people send in (they kindly answered one of mine in fact).
To add onto the Popul Vuh links (i know im 2 years late on this..!)
Here’s a film on the Popul Vuh originally published in 1989 that is animated photographs/scans of Maya pottery.
Also, just a general tip of looking through more in-depth resources for mythos that do not center Greek/Roman or other European protagonists/beliefs is to look at the references found in Wikipedia.
Wikipedia acts as an online library to point you to the right direction, and here’s the one for Maya mythology! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_mythology
I just watched an autistic hunk hook up with a crossdressing bisexual twink to try and find a wife so his lesbian sister can live in peace with her girlfriend, and also they're all super-assassins.
why did I see someone (I assume they are a part of the smaller countries in Europe) undermine China and Japan’s imperialism just to one up a usamerican. Like you can say the US is one of the most imperialist nations without saying China and Japan aren’t imperialist ☠️☠️☠️☠️
It's kind of amazing how much this is the identical strategy. Focusing on the distress and harm of parents over the trans or autistic person themselves. Pathologizing the condition treating it as an epidemic, including calling it a social contagion causing a worrying "explosion" of diagnosis because it is "trendy."
Ignoring the experts on the subject while also appealing to "common sense" and dismissing all research that contradicts them while also appealing to "basic science."
Plus it's all the same quacks and actors behind previous medical and social moral panics saying them same things in the same ways and no one seems to acknowledge that.
