YET ANOTHER lore dump, this time for the infection known as Dimensional Eye!
TW! WRITTEN DEPICTIONS OF BODY HORROR!
Dimensional Eye goes by many names. In 1896-B-4a it goes officially by "Miasma of the South", due to the theory that the infection came from the Southern colonies like the Caribbean, Australia and the East Indies (but it goes by many unofficial names depending on the region or culture like "The Affliction", "The Blight", or "The Cleansing" although the last one is due to many believing the infection is a punishment from God.) In the Underworld, however, it's known simply as "The Great Plague".
The infection is caused by prolonged exposure to the dimensional lining (green in colour) that holds the multiverse together, and the fact that biological beings aren't built to withstand the energy. The Rip causes this lining to leak into dimensions, and due to the nature of most universes following the same physics as ours, this lining manifests itself as electricity and in some extreme cases, radiation (though this is only caused when the energy is heated to dangerously high levels, like in a star). Exposure can be obtained via being in a high-distortion area for too long (an area about to shatter) or going through too many rifts or portals.
Transmission can also happen through other infected. The traditional zombie methods of transmission (biting, coughing/sneezing, vomiting or clawing) all work, but that's only because the electric current will use the fluids on a person's body as a conductor, like saliva, blood or sweat. Looking at an infected's glowing eyes for too long will also transmit the infection, as the infection jumps out of the eyes and into yours.
The energy is also attracted to metals, specifically ones that can conduct electricity, as all electricity is. Since most conductive metals are considered 'holy' by most religions, this solidifies the 1896-B-4a theory of it being divine punishment or the Devil taking over the world. The energy is so unstable that while conducted by something, it will slowly corrode said thing.
Once energy is inside it's host, it'll be attracted to fluids or conductors in the body (be it biological conductors like water, electrolytes or the iron in your blood, or other conductors like piercings, jewlery or metal facings/buttons on clothing.) The brain is also a prime target due to its water and electrolyte content. This is what causes the infection in the first place.
Symptoms, as well as their reasons, are as follows:
Heightened Aggression - Caused by a "need" to spread the infection and the fact that the part of the brain responsible for aggression is right next to the cerebellum which in turn is rich in neurons and electrolytes.
Heightened sense of Spatial Awareness - Caused by the energy's radius of travel, letting the host almost feel the electrical currents.
Glowing eyes - Caused by energy leaking out of the corneas. The earlier blue stage is caused by the energy reacting with electrolytes, but once the electrolytes corrode and diminish, the energy turns green again.
Fever - Caused by heat building up in the body from the energy itself.
Paleness - Caused by strain on the blood vessels, with the body trying to cool itself.
Coughing and Irregular breathing - Caused by the host having more energy than normal, and strain on the body.
Tremors, as well as Increased Speed, Stamina and Pain Tolerance - Caused by the host's increase in energy and adrenaline (adrenaline is produced when there is a deficiency in electrolytes, which would make sense because they get broken down by the illness).
Irregular Vocalisations - Caused by tremors in the throat, lungs and diaphragm, which causes strange clicking/popping sounds, wailing or glitch-like stuttering in the host . However in early stages the host still has some kind of control over their vocal patterns, and can somewhat hold in the urges to make sound, which leads to eerie silence.
The infection also spikes impulses and intrusive thoughts to a maximum, and removes the ability to control one's actions/emotions or reason.
However if someone is exposed and afflicted for an extremely long period of time, their body will begin completely changing.
Red glow in the eyes - Strain on the body causes hemorrhages in the brain, and the energy reacts with the blood, causing the glow to shift from green to red.
"Mutations" - The energy begins warping the body, which is also partially to do with the energy messing with the pituitary gland and releasing growth hormones. Bones, teeth, hair and nails grow to unnatural lengths, and bones warp and contort into strange, tall shapes. The skin thins after the melanin, fat and collagen are broken down, giving infected an emaciated look despite their strength.
Speech Patterns - The host's nervous system is completely wrecked, so these more powerful infected can only make quiet clicking sounds with their throat.
These superior infected even have some kind of form of electrokinesis, where the currents let someone move electricity/conductors with their mind, though this causes even more strain on the body to use.
These infected will eventually, after being twisted and warped beyond recognition, finally collapse and buckle under the strain and unnatural growth. The infected will buckle, and cave in on themselves, which will release the energy. In these final moments, the host will reach a sort of terminal lucidity, and feel emotion, remorse and think for themselves in their last few seconds.
The disease can be cured by isolating the host so the energy can dissipate over a prolonged period. Hordes are essentially a power grid for the infection, and the energy will constantly jump through each member of the horde. Even talking to an isolated infected enough can help, priests have been known to "cure" the infected with blessings, although this is caused by the infected focusing on the priest's words due to instinct, and this will override the energy's grip on the person.
a bit of lore for Vostorokod, an Asian nation in 1896-B-4a!
"Знамя Исхода" (Banner of Exodus), the flag of Vostorokod. It shares the Russian colours to honour the Vostorokodi people's heritage.

Vostorokod was founded in the year 1565, but not established as a formal country until 1600. During the Russo-Germanic War (fought between the Rus Tsardom and the Holy Roman Empire, when Russia invaded the collapsing Livonian Order's valuable territories, prompting retaliation from the Holy Roman Empire who didn't want the Russians to control the Baltic Sea), peasants, hunters, and other civilians from Western Russia (and other areas/nations) fled East to leave the bloody war behind. They entered Siberia after crossing the Urals, and eventually inherited Mongol, Chinese, Far Eastern and Korean territories.
Just like Clavia, Vostorokod's culture is diverse, if not more. The predominant language is Russian (which is also its official language) due to the majority of the Vostorokodi's ancestors coming from Russia, and in the South, Mongolian and Chinese are spoken, and in the areas near the Yellow Sea, Sea of Japan and Sea of Okhotsk, Japanese and Korean are spoken. Even English and native Canadian languages are spoken due to people crossing from Alaska (part of British Canada) (however these languages are often written in Cyrillic, for convenience and in the case of the Asian languages, adaptation over centuries.)
Since its formal establishment, it's never officially served in any wars. However, during the late Clavian War (1879-1895) in 1890, ordinary civilians decided to follow mobilising Russian soldiers spotted across the border (the Vostorokodi idolise Russian soldiers because of their discipline, technological advances, and overall military in general, all of which Vostorokod lacks due to its isolation. These civilians ended up joining the Russian forces in the defense of Poland, and skirmishes with Austria on the Black Sea, excelling at scouting and stealth. While not being authorised by the Tsarina, the most prolific of these fighters ended up being rewarded handsomely.

a bit of lore for my first country i made up, Clavia!
"Het Koninklijke Paars" (The Royal Purple), the flag of Clavia. Its motto reads "In Eenheid, Kracht, Door Kroon en Volk" (In Unity, Strength, by Crown and People) made in 1803.
Clavia on the map (pictured in Purple. the striped areas around it with that same purple are its reparations, which were territories taken from it after the Clavian war. The red ones are British, the black ones are German, the light blue ones are Bavarian and the dark blue ones are French.
Clavia was founded in the year 1601, after Holy Roman nobles moved their armies west, plundering Swiss, Dutch, South West German, North Italian and Belgian villages and towns in order to claim their own land. Eventually these lands merged into 1 state, forming the Kingdom of Clavia as a vassal subordinate state to the Holy Roman Empire (with quite light restrictions, including being allowed to have its own colonial empire), until its collapse in 1806. Then, it became its own nation and swiftly began further colonisation.
Its culture is a quite diverse one, with German-speaking Clavians living in the North-Eastern regions, French-speaking Clavians living in the Swiss regions (in this world, Switzerland never became its own nation much like Belgium and The Netherlands, and in 1896 its far Western areas being French and the rest being Clavian) and its areas bordering France, Italians living in its Southern-most Mediterranean territories, and the rest (and central areas) speaking Dutch which is its official language. Clavia is fairly industrious, with many factories in cities and along rivers, and it is famed for its efficiency and inventiveness.
In the Napoleonic Wars, it essentially took the place of the real life Kingdom of the Netherlands, including having the battle of Waterloo fought on its ground.
In 1879, however, it teamed up with Austria and Italy to invade Prussia and Poland, ensuring easier access to the Atlantic (for all 3 of the nations) and to be able to use the Baltic sea as a trade route, starting the Clavian War. After a 16-year long battle in Europe, Clavian forces were eventually cornered in the Battle of Delft, when the Clavian army suffered massive losses while defending The Hague (the Clavian capital only a few miles away) and was forced to surrender. After this surrender it was stripped of its army and forced to pay reparations to the main belligerent states opposing it.

I beg of you to take action on the hysteria spreading through the nation. My soldiers have fought as hard as they can against something of the likes of no enemy we've fought. On Wednesday morning, I'm sure you've already heard of it, me and my men - consisting of the Queen Victoria's 16th Rifle Regiment and the Royal Sea Fencibles - were embarking our daily patrol across the coast of Elmer Beach in Sussex.
The port was set to have the HMS Sentinel depart to the Nile to deal with the Mahdists, but after a day the ship went completely silent. No morse code was sent, packet ships never arrived. We assumed the boat had been sunk somehow, perhaps from vengeful Clavians still bitter about their defeat in the war, even after all this time.
But the truth was far worse.
A 16th scout spotted it first. The fog seemed to part as the Sentinel's iron bow jutted out into view. Our men cheered, expecting the crew to come back with something of value, but instead the boat turned, and its cannons slowly slid, one by one, out of view. One man stood confused for a second, only to be instantly shredded with grapeshot.
We almost instantly took arms. Snipers gathered at their posts, picking off the afflicted cannoneers. A few engineers began building rudimentary defences, though most of these were destroyed by shellshot. On my command, a dozen or so Royal Jollies were sent to board the ship, and luckily for them their jolly boat was overlooked by the soldiers on board, and they managed to get there safely. However, they were forced to retreat, after their captain was "devoured" by the afflicted. They reported their eyes shone unnaturally blue, similar to those quarantined in Portsmouth.
The battle went on for about half an hour, until at last, artillerymen stationed for backup were ordered to fire roundshots at the Sentinel. One lucky man hit their ammunition stockpile, and eventually the whole ship was completely engulfed in flames, before an almighty explosion decimated what remained.
Middleton-on-Sea, and I suspect Bognor Regis as a whole, will take a while to recover. Stray grapeshot shattered windows and injured civilians, but thankfully no civilian casualties occurred. I suspect the cause was mutiny, or some kind of Mahdist influence. We cannot let this happen again.

a bit more worldbuilding on the underworld! this time it's more about the climate, biology and overall setting.
the Underworld is primarily populated with, obviously, demons. their culture is diverse between subspecies, but their overall culture is quite patriotic and loyal to the king and queen. architecture is similar to 1600s tudor england and valois france, although demons have access to electricity and cars, although technology as a whole is like that of the 1950s and 60s.
it's quite similar to the Minecraft nether, being a large cave-like area with a roof. nobody actually knows what's above or below the roof, though most scientists believe it's either endless rocks or an endless void. the climate is mostly cold and rainy, though the southern regions are quite hot and humid, while the northern regions are snowy. the regions populated mostly by lust, pride and greed lie in the south, while regions of sloth, wrath and gluttony are in the north. the centre capital area is a diverse cocktail of different sins, and is the most populated out of all regions. plantlife is mostly grasslands, pine forests and shrubs (with varying colours for the areas they grow in. green for greed, red for wrath, magenta for lust, purple for envy, yellow for pride, maroon for gluttony and blue for sloth)
