So many anti-science (and particularly, anti-vax) people apply their diet and orthorexia culture to medicine. That is one of the things you will hear over and over again. āI actually read the ingredients of this vaccine and it has [SUBSTANCE] in it so I will not let my child get vaccinated.ā which is exactly how these people grocery shop, Iām sure. No understanding of chemistry, no research into why that ingredient is in there, what it is doing to help make the vaccine safe and effective and what amount would make it toxic to the human body. They will be like āOh my god, there is hydrochloric acid in there! Iām not going to research into why it is in there (in small amounts as a PH stabilizer), itās hydrochloric acid (the human body creates it naturally) and theyāre trying to inject this into our children!ā
a good thread

Outfit for a pride event I went to over the weekend! It was my first time building an outfit around a skirt and I'm soooo happy with how it came out.
For the record I kind of slayed harder in the non-fursuit version of the fit. The collar and rainbow are actually visible here instead of being locked behind layers of fur.

Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
still thinking about when i saw a girl on here with ~3 partners and one of them was a lesbian with a āMEN DNIā banner and one of them was a tboy with a āāMEN DNIā DNIā banner

iāve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.
as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. itās just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. weāre small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, āiām not here to hurt you. hereās something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know weāre on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. iām being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.ā
small talk isnāt to get to know a person. itās just a greeting to affirm youāre buddies in the universe.
i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.
Cellulose nitrate was used to make dice from the late 1860s until the middle of the twentieth century, and the material remains stable for decades. Then, in a flash, they can dramatically decompose. Nitric acid is released in a process called outgassing. The dice cleave, crumble, and then implode.
From Dice: Deception, Fate & Rotten Luck by Ricky Jay and Rosamond Purcell, 2002.
