I have a hilarious idea for a short story for you: in one potential future where No Wei marries Leona, their oldest daughter and Malleus fall in love. Leona is unhappy and it takes his wife and oldest daughter a while to convince him to grudgingly accept the marriage. All of their school friends find Leona's situation funny.

SO in a timeline No and Leona have a daughter named Sura.

Now I'm imagining future!Sura x Malleus.

I've had this idea rattling around my brain ever since I read Ruggie's Platinum Jacket vignette; the tone shift to discuss his dad kind of surprised me, and I wanted to see that conversation have more of a conclusion. So here it is!

This reminds me of the fact that "Ancient Egypt" goes back so many thousands of years, that the most recent "Ancient Egyptians" were already studying (even more) Ancient Egypt.

Not even the most recent ones. It was an Egyptian prince from the 13th century BCE studying and restoring artifacts from the 26th century BCE.

For context, the last Pharaoh, Cleopatra VII, lived in the 1st century BCE. Prince Khaemweset, known as "the first egyptologist", was as ancient to her as the pyramids and tombs he was studying were ancient to him.

This has totally be mentioned in another fork of this post, but it reminds me quite a bit of Ennigaldi-Nanna's museum, a museum in Ur, c. 530 BC, which housed mesopotamian artifacts dating back in some cases to the 20th century BC

One of the stalls at the farmer’s market was giving away garlic scapes and I got two lovely flower balls. I’d planned to stir fry the flowers in some kind of garlic fried rice, but then had a family emergency and was gone for over a week. So now I need a quick, low-energy, use for them before they go bad: garlic flower finishing salt!

Take your flower balls and give them a little haircut.

Be prepared for onion-crying type fumes to happen!

Grind the flower buds (and the scapes/stems if yours are still good) in a food chopper with salt. I used about 6Tbs salt with two flower balls, the minimum I could to make the mixture work, but you can do more if you want it less garlicky. It will make a green paste when ground.

Place the ground garlic-salt mixture on a parchment paper covered tray.

Dry the paste either in a low oven for a couple of hours, or in a dehydrator for 4-6 hours. My air fryer-convection oven combo unit has a dehydrator setting so I used it at 170F for 4.5 hours.

Remove the dried mixture and re-grind. It will dry into chunks but we want a powder.

Store in any airtight jar.

It’s a fun green color, so putting it out where you can see it is great for Vibes.

Mine is a fine grind, since I was out of large salt granules and had to start with a table salt grind. If I’d had the energy to break up the dried mixture in my mortar and pestle, it would have been more chunky. It has a much stronger flavor than grocery store garlic salt, so I have to be sparing when I use it. You can do a higher salt-to-flower ratio for lower garlickyness.

Tonight it was delicious on corn on the cob. Also good on popcorn, steak, roasted veggies, baked chicken, or anything that would be tasty with a garlicky garnish.

THE SUMMER BOYS ARE BLUE!!! oh my goodness. I love when Deuce gets to dress up like a little Lord Fauntleroy and be all fancy for a little bit. 💙💙💙 ...although there is something wonderful to me specifically that Deuce is the one who gets to be a frilly lacy fancylad, versus Ace going full Victorian street urchin. it is the correct option, don't get me wrong, it's just also hilarious.
