Zutara Week Days 2 & 3: Warmth and Aurora

“It scares me. Not because of you but because I’m scared of what could have happened if I hadn’t been fast enough. There were times when I wasn’t and… you can guess the rest,” she failed at stopping tears from streaming her face. “It makes me shiver.”

After the Agni Kai, Katara couldn't bear to look at the scar on Zuko's chest. It would make her think of the what ifs and make her shiver every time she glanced in its' direction. Ten years later, however, her and Zuko's relationship isn't the same as it was that day. Zuko makes sure to remind her that that scar means more than what she thinks.

Zutara Week 2026

Day 1: Dreams

It wasn’t the aggressive hue of his sister’s fire nor the dull color of the dragon that’d appeared in his nightmares. It couldn’t be compared to the deep blue of his Spirit mask or to the blinding glow of the creature at the North Pole. No, he’s been dreaming of the color of a gemstone: vibrant, startling and spirited.

Returning to the Fire Nation after spending three years chasing a ghost story should have been freeing. Walking through the halls drowned in crimson and rimmed with gold ought to have felt rewarding. Going to sleep surrounded by red and the Fire Nation emblem should have soothed his worries.

Instead, Zuko dreams of sapphire.

Me when I'm having a bad day and then suddenly I remember that the original Southern Raiders script had Katara sleep through Azula's attack at the temple

Since it's been revealed that NATLA likes to take a page from the Zutarian's playbook, they should take it up a notch and give us we Katara using bloodbending to heal Zuko after the Agni Kai next season

if they do what everyone expects and dont make zutara canon in NATLA we're gonna be like yeah we saw that one coming.

if they do the thing that no one expects and make it canon or at the very least leave it ambiguous and open without canonizing kata.ang and romantically coding the zutara scenes to the nth degree, there is going to be a category 5 shipping war event that will leave countless dead and injured in the aftermath.

be ready for ao3 to crash if they make NATLA zutara canon. be ready for ao3 to crash if they simply DON'T make kata.ang canon.

Honestly, it is "damned if they do, damned if they don't" for NATLA regarding the ship war. People will complain no matter the outcome.

Modern AU Azula third wheeling between her annoying brother and his okayish friend who think they're so good at hiding their feelings except everyone can see they like each other so now she is stuck waiting for these two idiots (affectionately) to confess and save her from this romantic comedy.

I really want to participate in this year's Zutara Week (for the first time in all my years of being a Zutara shipper) but right now my mind is like

Me getting ready to devour another Zutara Book 2!AU where Katara gets separated from the Gaang and has to team up with Zuko and Iroh to get to Ba Sing Se and at first she and Zuko are at each other's throats but then they get to know each other and they bond and feelings begin to develop but Zuko going back to the Fire Nation is inevitable so angst is on it's way.

Also, if Aang is not yet the Avatar he needs to be, and he's dead in LoK, when does he actually become the Avatar? This movie was supposed to be his moment?

I'm still stuck on Aang being "between adolescence and adulthood" at 25. That's an adult, a young one, but an adult nonetheless.

A question for Zutara fic writers (and readers)

There's something that always confuses me whenever I'm reading a Zutara fanfic. Mind you, this is not an attempt to call anyone out but rather an invitation for an amicable exchange of opinions. Many times when Zuko and Katara are having a conversation and Kya's death is brought up Katara mentions that the reason her mom got killed was because she claimed to be the last waterbender of the SWT in an attempt to protect her, which we know DID happen. These moments also happen before the events of the Southern Raiders

The reason I'm confused is because I remember that Katara actually didn't know that Kya was protecting her until she heard Yon Rha recall what happened the day of the raid. In Katara's flashback that we see in the Southern Raiders, she doesn't witness the discussion between Kya and Yon Rha since Kya instructs her to go to Hakoda not long after she enters their home.

Again, I'm not trying to be mean but this is an aspect that does pull me out of the reading inmersion a little so I want to know if having Katara know about Kya's sacrifice is a deliberate choice or if I'm suffering from a weird Mandela effect sort of thing.

I haven't watched all of NATLA season 2. Not because I don't want to or because I find the chore dreadful but because I've watched episode 2 three times in a row. I don't even know why I'm stuck rewinding the episode but I just keep doing it.
