Note: Oh my gosh i havenât written anything for a couple of months. And itâs bad soooâŠ
Back home being sick meant being taken care of, a break from school and basically getting spoiled. It was kinda cool, well not including the part that you felt horrible, weak, tired and taking like million medication your mom insisted on.
You would get to stay home under the warm blanket and with your mother fussing over you. She would make you black tea with 2 slices of lemon and one spoon of sugar. Maybe even add a little bit of honey if you were feeling too sick.
She wouldâve change your clothes if itâs needed, brush your hair out of your face. And you used to feel like the most loved person in the world.
So when you wake up with a headache and sore throat you stupidly waited for your motherâs voice and hands. You even waited for her complains about how the other day you were dressed lightly and that she saw this coming.
You waited for her to check your temperature with her hands on your forehead. And you waited for her to make you take your medicine.
But none of this was gonna happen. Because she wasnât here. No one was.
Nobody to take care of you.
Nobody to save you. To save everyone.
So this time you woke up to the girls voices. You heard Lotties prayer group, Misty and Crystal singing some familiar song, Tai and Vans muffled voices.
Letting out a small sigh you opened your eyes. You felt like you were run over by a car.
âHey sleeping beauty! Thank you for finally deciding to wake up.â Mari said with a tease.
If you werenât in your state right now you wouldâve said something in return.
Without any help from girls, not like someone offered you some help, you begin to stand up.
After what feels like a century you finally succeeded.
Without any medication or real food all you had was hot water. And your own company.
Some of the girls turned their heads to you but said nothing. You looked really bad.
But nobody wants to risk their lives and get sick.
After your breakfast, which was water, you returned to your sleeping spot. Without nothing to do you watched others for a while. Van and Tai playing cards at the table. Mari, Gen, Lottie and few others were talking quietly. Coach Ben was probably in the bedroom doing god knows what. Itâs not like he had lots of options.
Only people that were missing are Travis and Natalie.
You know that they were out there, risking their lives outside in cold trying to find food for everyone.
But as you felt yourself getting worse you selfishly wished for her to be here with you.
When Natalie and Travis finally returned without anything, you were out sold.
You were curled up in your spot, arms wrapped around yourself, nose runny, sweat covering your skin, shiver running through your body.
First thing Nat noticed was you, not disappointed eyes of other girls.
Making her way through everyone she sank down beside you.
âHey⊠whatâs wrong?â she said as softly as she could.
All she got as an answer was some mumbling she couldnât understand. With the back of her palm she touched your forehead.
âJesus fucking christâ
Taking off her jacket and covering you with it hoping it will help you with shivering, she turned her head to others.
âYou guys havenât checked on her?â
Everyone got quiet bot knowing how to handle this.
âShe is sick. She shouldnât even be in the same room with us. We could all get sick. Especially Shauna here. Iâm not gonna die because of her.â Mari said with her usual âIâm gonna say what others canâtâ voice.
âWell then maybe you shouldâve helped her!â Natalie was irritated and angry.
âIf you need it then you do it.â
Throwing one more glance at you she stood up. She needs to help you.
She found some towel in one of the cabinets in kitchen, filled a small bowl with crystal clean snow and she was back next to you.
âYou can take the bedroom Natalie.â said Ben from his spot near the fireplace.
Without wasting any minute she slipped her right arm under your back and her left arm under your knees. Carrying you wasnât that hard, considering your living conditions here.
As she gently placed you in the bed you stirred from your sleep but didnât wake up.
She wasnât sure if itâs a good thing or bad thing.
Using water from snow she dumped her towel in it, then placed cold and damp towel on your forehead. It breaks her heart seeing you like that and not being able to help.
Then she did what you used to do to her when she would get sick back home.
Laying down next to you and playing with your hair, giving you some kind of massage.
In your barely conscious state you felt her hands, heard her soft voice whispering something in your ear.
Yes, you werenât technically home, didnât have your mother to take care of you, no medicine to take.
And you felt like you were finally home.
