It rained like hell in August of ‘86, flooded so bad Steve couldn’t even get his car out of the driveway. It probably served him right to have to walk through the pouring rain all the way to the trailer park.
Maybe if he’d come sooner, maybe if he had the nerve to look Eddie in the eyes when he told him that big plan of his… to say whose face he really saw next to him in his dreams…
Maybe if he’d just told Eddie how he felt instead of treating him like they were never even friends, making Eddie believe they were scorned strangers again for weeks, then maybe Steve wouldn’t be standing drenched and pathetic and begging at Eddie’s doorstep.
Steddie Angst Audio:
[Eddie opens the door of his trailer to reveal Steve standing there in the rain, nervous and distraught while Eddie is cold and resentful]
Steve: Eddie, hey man, uh—
Eddie: What are you doing here?
Steve: I just want to make things right to you now…
Eddie: [Hits the door angrily] No, don’t bullshit me, man!
Steve: I- I- [bangs his hand against the house in frustration] I messed up! Okay? I mess- I messed up… Okay? Really.
Eddie: I don’t even know why I care—
[Eddie starts to shut the door but Steve’s hand stops it]
Steve: Eddie.
[They lock eyes and Eddie reluctantly stays]
Steve: Do you remember that dream I told you about?
Eddie: [sighs, he remembers] Yeah.
Steve: I left one part out, it’s the most important part… You were there.
[Eddie pauses, like he can’t let himself believe it]
Eddie: I guess I couldn’t accept the fact that Steve Harrington was—
Steve: It’s all true. Every last word.
[Eddie surges toward Steve and they embrace in the rain while Eddie is overwhelmed with emotion]
