Last year, 2017, my friend recommended me to collect more books rather than just borrowing books from my friends. To be honest, I’m not really a fan of collecting books because I find it hard to collect money to buy just one book and finish it for only three days. But as my friend told me, it’s no harm to collect books while I’m also collecting stickers and decorative tapes (LOL).
This year I found myself in book bazaars and book sales just to grab books that are worth to buy. So here are some books that I’ve read so far since this year has started. These books were also bought this year. I hope you enjoy!

A collection of monologues about millennials by millennials
I bought this one in the Summit Media Warehouse sale just this January. This book was published last 2016 and was on drop off price when I got it on the warehouse sale. I got it not knowing what to expect but I find it interesting cause it’s a collection of monologues and it is written and was also performed by locals.
I liked the book cover because it really gets to the point on who this book is about which is the millennials. So book cover wise: 10/10 very millennial.
To be honest, when I first opened the pages I was shookt to the bones to the layout, photography, and illustrations. It was good. It was really as if you’re a reading a collection of articles that are #sorelatable from the magazines. I loved that every page is eye-catching.
The titles of every part of these collection of monologues are in order and I love that. I love that they go through every aspect that a millennial are having or going through, the problems that we’re facing nowadays, the types of personality of a millennial, the worsts and the beauty of being in this generation, and overall, the straight forwardness of every line in this book. Truly, no filter!
This book will make you relate, of course, if you’re a millennial. But most of all, I think this book will also hit you into the face that we’re in this generation and there are pros and cons being in here.

I also got this book on the warehouse sale but I’ve read some of the pages of this book from my friend who also have this one. Honestly, I was not a fan of buying a book that contains poems or other entry that will just make me sad and leave just me without not knowing what every word the author had just said. It turns out when I got a glimpse of this book from my friend, I found it hard not to put it down.
There’s something about the words of the authors here that made me comfortable about my pain and how they describe the hurt; there’s still beauty in it. It’s not that it’s very good to be hurt, okay? The beauty in it is that it’s very true and very real and they’ve captured it in a very good way the way the reader had almost felt. The illustrations were the symbol of every piece. And I love that the art has reflected the words and the gist of every work that the authors has made.
When I open this little book, it reminds me that it’s okay to be sad at some point. And that it’s okay to pause for awhile and just reflect. It’s like your book of how you have conquered and how’d you face maturity in life. This book will comfort you somehow. It will not let you feel the pain and it will not make you the pain that you’ve felt. It will make you feel the aftermath of your pain and the realization. And that was comforting to me.
Fantasy fiction/YA Paranormal fiction
I bought this book just this February during the Book Binge Bazaar of National Bookstore. I got it for only 175php ($3.50)! The reason why I bought this is because my brother told me so. He said it was pretty interesting. And I don’t want to leave the bazaar empty handed so I bought it (I only bought two books there).
Fantasy is not my number one to find in the bookstore. But, reading the back of the cover makes it kind of interesting.

Story wise, it is very easy to understand. There’s some major plots but I swear you’ll be able to move on easily. It’s not that very hard to understand for the story moves along just fine.
I was kind of expecting this book to be very metaphoric and the kind of book that will make your brain turn into nuts but sadly it isn’t. And it was my bad for I expected much. It’s not that I didn’t liked the book though. I liked it. And it’s not that it’s my first time to read a book that’s not very very metaphoric (lol). Maybe I just expected that because this is a fantasy.
If I’m going to rate this book it’s going to be 3 out of 5. I would say that the way the author has described every scene of what Dea (the main character) has seen in her dreams were very well-written. Just like I’ve said, you’ll get along with the story easily for the author has written the words detail by detail.
I’m also a fan of books who has a lowkey love story but focuses more on the action. I love it when stories have that kind of concept. And this books covers that. Dea and Connor like each other obviously but what keeps you unto it is how the heck they’re not doing anything about it and how they prioritize their friendship.
I’ll recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and a little bit of mystery. But to be honest, I still don’t know what to feel on the ending lol.
The hype is super real for me on John Green’s comeback in another book. I did not buy this on sale or whatever. I bought this on an actual bookstore for my love John Green’s work.
When I first heard about him releasing a new book, of course I am very excited to get it on my hands as soon a possible. If you subscribe on the YouTube channel of him and his brother, Hank, named thevlogbrothers you’ll surely have an update on how the book is going.

This book was released last October 2017. But I only got it this year but so far so so good because I haven’t read any spoilers and any bad comments about it.

Now, I’ve heard that turtles do not have a huge part in this. So it was very a John Green style that you’ll have to read the book to be able understand the title of the book. Which was awesome, btw. And it’s not the only animal you’ll get to encounter in this book also.
Anyway, I have a lot to say about this book that I might even write about it in a separate blog just to pour out my emotions and thoughts about this book. But overall, it was a wonderful story. Knowing that John displayed a character that can almost relate to what he’s experiencing to his mental health issue seems very personal to me. The built of the story focuses more on the personal issue rather than issue about the mystery they have to solve. And that’s very good.
I’ve related so much to the main character, Ava, although Daisy, her friend, is a Star Wars nerd, I think these two and I will be such great friends. Hahaha.
There are moments which I picture that Ava wants to speak and to interact to her friends but she doesn’t have the energy to do so. And it’s not that she’s not having fun, it’s just that she’s just too tired to interact. And I get it, you know (woohoo! shoutout to my passive friends there. Where you at?).
It’s just amazing how John Green illustrates the feeling.
I won’t say no more about this book because I might be able to spoil y’all. Hahaha. But I highly recommend this book to almost everyone especially to the people who thinks that there’s something wrong with their mind. If you have a friend that might be going through something and you can’t understand them, this book might be able to help you also.
