Get Up And Dance... And Then Map Out Your Content Marketing Strategy for 2014
Why You Need A Content Marketing Strategy for 2014
I’ve been knee-deep in client work for the past several days, and I just needed a little pick me up.
Yeah… this is my idea of fun. What can I say? I’m sure I’ll get into trouble for using copyrighted music. I’m hoping adding a plug for you to buy the track on iTunes or Amazon keeps Chris Joss or his label happy. Hey, it’s free promotion, right! No, seriously… click here right now and go buy this music track before they come and arrest me!
What’s Your Content Marketing Plan?
January is New Year’s Resolution time. And, if you’re an expert, a professional trying to build a private practice or a group practice, you probably don’t spend hours each day keeping an eye on marketing trends, how the web is evolving, and how consumers are engaging online.
I do. Again, it’s my odd idea of fun.
The bottom line is that people want great information that engages, informs, and entertains. And more than ever before, they want to consume this content in the form of video.
Why? Because it engages, informs, and entertains!
The Secret Weapon You’re Failing To Use
As an expert professional, you have a secret weapon that you’re probably not coming close to using fully in your efforts to build your practice. I’m talking about all that great knowledge, experience, expertise you keep locked away in your head!
You know that information is of great value. It’s why people pay to consult with you.
Why You Need To Give Away Your Expertise
You worked hard for it. So why would you ever consider simply GIVING it away?
Well, the simple truth is, there’s no better way to get people to find you, engage with you, and recognize that you really are the expert solution to the problems they’re experiencing. But if you’re not putting great content out there online where it can be easily found, how are they ever going to find their way into your office?
Because, you see, the only way they can decide that you ARE the right professional source of help for them now is to schedule an appointment and come see you. They have to already have a direct connection to you via a referral source.
Referrals Are Great, But They’re Not Enough
And, hey, that’s great. Referrals are simply AWESOME. But there are two big problems your referral sources might be creating for you:
They may not be referring the RIGHT people to you
They may not be referring ENOUGH people to you
How many people every month DON’T get referred to you because the person experiencing the problem DOESN’T have a direct connection to someone who knows you and refers you?
I don’t care if you’re in the top 1% of your field. The fact is most of your ideal potential clients don’t know that you exist, and they have no way to discover that you have what they need now.
Why Your Marketing Is Unethical
Now, you may think I’m being dramatic, but I’m completely serious about this.
In my humble opinion, you have an ethical obligation to be marketing yourself better than you are now.
Do you believe in your skills and in your expertise?
Do you have a track record of helping people better their lives, lessen their pain, enhance their health, make more money, have better relationships… (fill in the blank with your niche area of expertise)?
Are there not many, many other people just like those you’ve worked with who would be better off if they could easily and efficiently find you and connect with you?
You see, there’s an ethical issue here, not just an economic one.
Why You Have NO Competition – Just Bad Marketing
I believe that we live in a vastly abundant world. Whether you are a doctor, an attorney, a candlestick maker… I don’t believe you have ANY real competitors in your field.
I believe that when you combine your unique personality with your unique life experience, and your very specific professional training, you become a unique source of expertise.
I believe that you are ideally suited to help a very targeted group of people.
Could you successfully work with lots of other people? Sure.
But there is an ideal audience for you. And, admit it, you often settle for clients, customers, and patients that are less than ideal. They are just the ones that show up because they were able to find and connect with you.
You’re just not getting the word out enough. You’re not visible enough. People are looking for you, they need what you have to offer them.
What are you going to do this year to make sure that they can find you and recognize you as being right for them?
It’s New Year’s Resolution time. You have unique skills that are ideally suited to maximally benefit a highly specific target audience.
What are you going to do differently in 2014 to make sure that there is a clear, efficient, effective trail of electronic bread crumbs that leads this person to your door?
I’m going to suggest you create great content from your expertise and get it out on the Internet where the power of a search engine like Google can do its job.
Look, your audience needs to find you. You owe it to them.
Please let me know if I can help you make that happen. My mission is to connect people with problems to people with solutions.
