I will say this cause the ship poll drama reminded me unfortunately that the bg3 fandom is not as progressive as they want to claim
Because I'm tired of seeing people say they "love Wyll" while consistently refusing to engage with him as an actual character.
This is especially noticeable in any Wyll ship but the things wyllstarion fans were saying really made me remember how Wylls corpse gets dragged around in this fandom . Way too often, Wyll stops being Wyll. He's reduced to an emotional support system, a therapist, a moral compass, or a prop whose entire purpose is to facilitate Astarion's story and growth. His own trauma, relationships, ambitions, flaws, and internal conflicts get flattened or ignored.
Wyll is a man who grew up under impossible expectations, was manipulated by a devil, sacrificed everything for people he'd never met, lost his father, struggles with his identity as the Blade of Frontiers, and has to reckon with what heroism actually means. That's a compelling character in his own right not just someone else's love interest.
And yes, I think racism plays a role in this. We should be able to acknowledge that fandom has a long history of sidelining Black characters while giving white characters endless complexity and grace. Wyll deserves the same level of analysis, sympathy, fanworks, and narrative attention that other companions receive.
This isn't about saying you can't ship Wyllstarion. Ship whatever you want. It's about asking why so much content turns Wyll into a cardboard cutout whose only job is making Astarion feel better. If your version of Wyll only exists to support another character, you've stopped writing Wyll.
More broadly, the Baldur's Gate 3 fandom constantly says it loves and supports Wyll, but those words don't mean much when he's consistently one of the least discussed companions, gets dramatically fewer fanworks, has his characterization ignored, or is treated as "the nice one" instead of a deeply conflicted, fascinating person.
Loving Wyll means caring about his story too.
Not just what he can do for your favorite white character.
it is so funny when you realize that by drow standards, especially drow noble house and ESPECIALLY Baenre standards, Minthara is the woke liberal
She is willing to work with men in leadership positions even post-mind control and she will actually compliment and admire their tyrannical prowess
She will argue that the refugees in Baldur’s Gate should be enslaved because it’s practical and better for them that way, not because they’re weak lesser races that deserve to be subjugated
Like she probably gets called a libtard at Spider Thanksgiving every year while all her relatives are trying to poison each other
I apologize, I needed to draw an image to this.
So I finished my first run of Baldur's Gate 3...

So,,, if elves can live up to 750... then Astarion's parents may still be alive if they had him young. They'd be old as hell, but alive. And they'd have mourned their murdered son for 239 years, not knowing he was undead, a vampire, and being tortured. They'd have been visiting an empty grave. And never knew it was empty. So potentially... if Tav was sneaky enough and did some digging and found out where they lived... they could reunite Astarion with his parents. His old, elder elf aged parents. Who would see the 39 year old son they'd assumed dead 200 years ago at their doorstep. See those fang wounds and the red eyes and just... know.
The truth about Cazador would have gotten out eventually after his downfall. They'd see their now vampire son and immediately know what had happened to him, that he'd suffered for 200 years. And now he was free, deeply traumatised and a changed man. But still their son, still looking 39 like the day he died, back in their arms.
And some stranger they'd never met had cared about him enough to find his parents and bring him home to them. Astarion finally could bring his *true* lover home to his mum and dad. And his parents could finally rest easy knowing someone cared about him and loved him as much as they did, to the point they went out of their way to reunite them.
