Marlene Dietrich in BLONDE VENUS 1932 | Josef von Sternberg
Landet som icke är (1977), dir. Tuija-Maija Niskanen
Tove Jansson drew these drawings of Too-Ticky and Sniff for my grandpa, when he worked in the Finnish tv industry in the 70’s. Now they are hanging on the wall of my forever house reminding me about the core values of my life! <3

Sometimes one dream is enough to light up the whole sky.
I’m hopping on this trend! 2016 almost feels like yesterday and it happened ten years ago! Time totally flies! I have never felt so lost as I felt during that period of time but I was also so alive. And now I’m mourning my sad teenage years. How funny!
Of course you're an author! I'm curious about 18 and 19? 💚
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
This is such a difficult question! I feel like I’ve been most influenced by works I read in my late teens and early twenties. Like nothing after that has really taken me by surprise or shaken me to the core? You mentioned The God of Small Things, and it’s one of my important books as well. Rödluvan by Märta Tikkanen is another one. And then there are Tove Jansson and Raymond Carver’s short stories.
Also, I think every single novel I’ve translated has influenced me, simply because I spent so long with each of them.
19) when it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?
Oh boy. I use a lot of post-its. I plan characters’ schedules, write down important dates in the universe I’m creating etc. I have a different folder for all the bookmarks I might need while I’m writing. For the last fic I wrote I had a list of possible character names for OCs in different age groups and every time used a name I struck through it. But I don’t do actual outlines, that stuff is just in my head.
Thank you P. ❤️
My list of books that have influenced my writing is missing På diabilden är huvudet proppfullt av lycka by Catharina Gripenberg. I was translating her poems some years ago and was so sad when I found out that she considered that book her weakest and didn’t want any poems from it translated. I love it so so much.
The world’s radiant now and unfolds. as I said, didn’t I – the sky does extend between the fingers and the toes down to the ground, the grass rises up to heaven, let’s walk up there, my friend, let’s walk this last day.
– Mirkka Rekola, from Valekuun reitti (‘The path of the false moon’), 2004; translated by Herbert Lomas
Marina: Minä otin käsityön mukaan. Kutimen.
Poltettu oranssi. Eeva-Liisa Manner. Tammi, 1968.
Everything’s mysteriously missing: the evening as if in a dream is drifting, The rain is sleeping in the street in puddles.
The rain is sleeping. The rain is listening as leaves are scattered, scattered, everything… And shadows swish and murmur in the maples.
Slowly into darkness the trees drift. The houses sink and disappear like ships. In the puddles, mysterious lamps turn on.
The evening, too, is scattered to the ground. It falls into the water, dimmed and drowned. The lamps swim off. And everything is gone.

Suffering's Spring - Aila Meriluoto - Finland
Translator: Herbert Lomas (Finnish)
Suffering is still in the bud. Like Spring It’s waiting, a closed bud. And look: my hands, they’re two buds – these fists, clenched with fear and chafing – suffering’s ripening in them and waiting.
And when the time comes, they’ll soften, open, blossom springlike in their birth. And they are long and shining and humble and quiet as earth. And look: how plenteous it is, suffering’s spring.

just made myself laugh by thinking about this but a sudden thought popped up in my head in where i was just imagining pro tennis player!MC who's in a relationship with both G and Sam and new fans finding out:
"this is the type of greed they talk about in the bible," (aka: mc is attractive, a very good tennis player, and has two romantic partners) 😹😹😹
(anyway, just wanted to finish by saying i love your story and remember to stay hydrated and pace yourself ! 🤗💛)
Hahaha this is so funny!
Made me laugh thinking about “this is the type of greed they talk about in the bible” as the title for one of the articles in a sports gossip rag breaking the news about MC’s multiple romances.
(All jokes aside, I don’t think Sam and G poly is end game, mostly because of Sam.)
