Summary: My take on the movie Obsession if Reader were just as bad if not worse than Bear
Pairings: Megan Skiendiel x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Angst, Toxicity, Death, Violence
A/N: No, this is not romanticizing anything horrible. If you romanticize anything that happened in Obsession then watch it again and come back with a new opinion. This fanfic brings attention to how parasocial people can be and how if the Make a Wish Willow were real, a lot of celebrities or even normal people would be in Nikki's place.
The weeks that followed the festival felt like living inside someone else’s dream.
Or maybe someone else’s life.
Megan insisted on bringing you everywhere.
Even interviews, where she had to be repeatedly reminded that guests weren’t allowed backstage.
She texted you every morning before you even woke up.
Then another ten minutes later.
You had been asleep for less than an hour.
If you took longer than a few minutes to answer, she’d immediately call.
Not because she thought you were ignoring her.
She genuinely worried something had happened.
“I just want to know you’re okay.”
“I can’t stop thinking about you.”
Then it became overwhelming.
Still, there was no denying one thing.
Through Megan, you had become friends with KATSEYE.
Sophia quickly became the easiest to talk to, always checking in to make sure you felt included whenever the group hung out.
Daniela constantly challenged you to games she was convinced she’d win.
Lara loved dragging you into random conversations that somehow spiraled into debates lasting hours.
Manon had a habit of sending you the funniest videos she found at two in the morning.
Yoonchae was quieter, but every now and then she’d shyly ask if you wanted to practice choreography with her.
The awkwardness disappeared.
You weren’t just “that girl Megan dragged along” anymore.
You had become part of the group.
It was everything you’d imagined back when you watched their interviews alone in your apartment.
There was something terribly wrong with Megan.
No one wanted to be the first to say it.
Movie night had become a weekly tradition.
The seven of you sprawled across the massive sectional in their living room while some action movie played on the television.
Daniela and Lara argued over which snacks belonged in popcorn.
Manon had fallen asleep almost immediately.
Yoonchae sat on the floor with a blanket wrapped around herself like a burrito.
Sophia was quietly watching the movie beside you.
Megan, as always, refused to sit anywhere except right next to you.
Her arm was lazily draped over your shoulders while your head rested against the couch cushion.
For nearly twenty minutes…
The only sounds in the room were explosions from the television and the occasional crunch of chips.
It was so subtle at first that only you noticed.
Her fingers, which had been absentmindedly tracing circles against your sleeve, suddenly stopped moving.
Her breathing became uneven.
Her eyes slowly drifted toward you.
Like she’d never seen you before.
She whispered it so quietly you almost thought you’d imagined it.
Sophia muted the television.
Megan’s face drained of all color.
She stared directly at you.
Like her brain couldn’t make sense of what she was looking at.
She suddenly shoved herself backward so violently that she nearly fell off the couch.
She scrambled across the cushions, putting as much distance between the two of you as possible.
Her breathing became frantic.
Everyone shot to their feet.
“Megan!” Sophia rushed toward her.
Megan pressed herself against the armrest, shaking so violently her teeth chattered.
She looked completely terrified.
Her eyes darted around the room before landing on you again.
She pointed at you with trembling hands.
“Megan…” Sophia spoke carefully, like she was trying not to startle a frightened animal. “That’s…”
Because how were you supposed to explain this?
“My…” Megan blinked rapidly.
“I don’t know who she is!”
The words echoed through the living room.
Just yesterday she’d told you that you were the most important person in her life.
Now she looked at you like you were an intruder who had broken into her home.
“I swear I don’t know her!”
Her breathing became faster and faster.
“Why are all of you looking at me like that?”
She was looking at you with pure fear.
Like your very existence made no sense.
Sophia slowly reached Megan and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.
Megan kept hyperventilating.
Sophia’s voice became firmer.
After several long seconds…
The panic slowly began fading from her expression.
The frantic shaking stopped.
She blinked several times.
Megan looked around the room in confusion.
“Why’s everyone staring at me?”
The confusion melted away instantly.
A bright smile spread across her face.
Before anyone could react, Megan scooted back across the couch and wrapped both arms around yours, resting her head on your shoulder exactly like she’d been doing before.
“I don’t know what came over me.”
Like she’d merely forgotten what she was saying halfway through a sentence.
“I probably just zoned out.”
The room was deathly silent.
Sophia looked at Daniela.
Yoonchae hadn’t stopped staring at Megan.
And all five of them silently came to the exact same conclusion.
They hadn’t just witnessed someone space out.
For nearly a full minute…
Megan had looked at the person she claimed to love more than anyone else in the world—
And she had absolutely no idea who you were.
A week passed without another incident.
The episode during movie night became something no one quite knew how to talk about.
Whenever Megan left the room, the others exchanged uneasy glances.
“Do you think she remembers it?” Daniela asked one afternoon.
“And say what?” Lara sighed. “‘Hey, yesterday you acted like your favorite person in the whole world was a complete stranger before snapping back to normal?’”
Whenever they cautiously asked Megan if she’d been feeling okay lately, she looked genuinely confused.
A few days later, KATSEYE received invitations to an influencer party celebrating the launch of a new fashion brand.
It was exactly what you’d expect.
Music loud enough to shake the walls.
Ring lights in every corner.
People filming TikToks between conversations.
Influencers greeting each other with enthusiastic hugs before immediately checking if someone had gotten the interaction on camera.
You already felt out of place.
You weren’t an influencer.
You were only there because Megan had practically begged the members to let you come.
“I don’t want to go without you.”
The second you stepped inside, Megan found your hand.
Throughout the night, she barely left your side.
If you stopped to look at decorations, she stopped too.
If someone called your name, Megan answered before you could.
If another member borrowed you for a conversation, Megan would quietly appear a minute later as if she’d been searching for you the entire time.
You had wandered over to the drink table while Megan was briefly distracted by Manon introducing her to another artist.
It was the first time in nearly an hour that you weren’t physically attached to her.
You poured yourself a soda, grateful for a moment to breathe.
A young woman stood across from you, a camera hanging from one shoulder.
She looked vaguely familiar.
Not famous enough to recognize immediately, but familiar enough that she’d probably appeared on your social media before.
“I’ve seen you hanging out with KATSEYE.”
She smiled warmly, extending her hand.
“I’m a lifestyle creator.”
“You’re kind of becoming a mystery online.”
“There are edits of you and Megan everywhere.”
Your face immediately warmed.
“I was actually wondering if you’d want to exchange socials.”
Just someone trying to make a new friend at a networking event.
You opened your mouth to answer.
A hand suddenly grabbed your wrist.
The single word came from Megan.
She stood beside you so quietly neither of you had noticed her approach.
Her eyes never left the influencer.
“She was just introducing herself,” you explained.
Instead, she stepped directly between the two of you.
The influencer awkwardly laughed.
“I wasn’t trying to interrupt anything.”
“You were talking to her.”
An uncomfortable silence settled over the conversation.
People nearby slowly began noticing.
“Uh…” the influencer said carefully. “I just wanted to get to know—”
You gently tugged on Megan’s sleeve.
Before you could finish speaking…
Her expression softened instantly.
Like a switch had been flipped.
She cupped your face with both hands.
For a split second you thought she was going to whisper something.
The room seemed to disappear.
It wasn’t something done for appearances.
She kissed you with complete certainty, one hand sliding behind your neck while the other rested against your jaw as though she were terrified you’d somehow slip away.
Your brain completely stopped working.
You and Megan weren’t dating.
You’d never even talked about dating.
The girl you’d spent months admiring from afar before she’d somehow become a constant part of your life.
You found yourself kissing her back before your thoughts could catch up.
The room had gone noticeably quieter.
Conversations had stopped.
Even the influencer had taken an awkward step backward.
Daniela’s voice came from somewhere behind you.
Sophia rubbed a hand over her face.
Nearly half a minute passed before Megan finally pulled away.
She rested her forehead against yours, smiling as though she’d just done the most natural thing in the world.
She whispered it like she’d solved a problem.
Before you could respond, she wrapped both arms tightly around your waist.
“I don’t like when people flirt with you.”
Her grip tightened almost imperceptibly.
“They were looking at you.”
“They just wanted to talk.”
“I don’t want them talking to you.”
The nearby conversations had resumed, but not naturally.
People were whispering now.
Some were pretending not to stare while very obviously staring.
The other KATSEYE members slowly approached.
Megan looked at her, still holding you.
“You just made everyone really uncomfortable.”
Her answer came instantly.
“They can be uncomfortable.”
“You literally kissed someone for almost thirty seconds because another girl introduced herself.”
She looked back at you, completely ignoring everyone else.
“I don’t want anyone trying to take you away.”
She rested her chin on your shoulder.
“What don’t they understand?”
A soft laugh escaped her.
She said it so casually it was chilling.
She smiled against your shoulder.
“And I’m never letting anyone have you.”
The room fell silent again.
This time, not because of the kiss.
Because of the way she said it.
Not like someone confessing their love.
Like someone stating ownership.
Sophia’s eyes met Lara’s across the room.
Lara looked visibly unsettled.
Daniela had stopped smiling entirely.
Yoonchae quietly looked down at the floor.
And Manon felt a knot tighten in her stomach.
They’d all seen Megan develop crushes before.
They’d seen her fall in love.
Whatever was happening to Megan…
It was becoming something none of them recognized.
And with each passing day, it seemed to be getting worse.
