Unfashionably Late (Aladdin & Cinderella)
Cinderella noticed his hesitance to drink and realized she might have offended him causing her to fret. She continuously moved her fingers around the flute of champagne she held for herself trying desperately not to move the fingers to her hair. She knew she shouldn’t worry about it because what was done, was done, but she still wondered if she had handed him the wine.
"Aladdin?" She questioned, but nodded slowly. “I understand. I’ve met a lot of royals who have different first names than they actually give." She didn’t want to come out and say that she had been branded as Cinderella despite her birth name being Ella, but she honestly didn’t mind the name so much. It had bitten her stepsisters in the butt as everyone thought the name was lovely and unique. Though she preferred the nicknames to come out of it. Cindy, Cin, and, of course returning to her birthname, Ella.
"If you don’t mind my prying, where did Ali come from?"
Jasmine had been wandering, trying to find where she should be. Finally, she had come to a very large set of doors, where she could hear the muted babble of conversations happening behind them. The footmen opened the doors before she said anything, and before she could even ask where exactly she was they had announced, “Princess Jasmine of Agrabah!"
To the entire room. Which was already filled. It seemed that she was late.
She inclined her head respectfully to the three monarchs, bending her knees in a sort-of half-curtsy. Curtsying was not really something one did in Agrabah, but as she was in somebody else’s court it was right to follow their customs, even if a curtsy was made somewhat strange by the billowy pants she wore. “I am sorry about my lateness," she said. “I was…" For a moment, she wasn’t sure what to say without making her father or Aladdin look bad. “I was unable to arrive with the main party."
Although she had been in mid conversation with the Arabian monarch, Cinderella was struck with surprise when another person from Agrabah arrived. The name didn’t click at first, but then she realized and turned with a happy smile to Aladdin to see his reaction.
When her gaze turned back to Jasmine, who had approached, Cinderella gently curtsied and offered her gracious smile. “It’s not a problem, your majesty. I’m just glad you could make it and that you’re feeling better!" Excited to meet the princess of a very foreign country, Ella offered a refreshment. “If you desire anything, just let me know and I will get it."
Cinderella attempted conversation, “How was traveling? A separate caravan must have been a hectic!"
A nostalgic smile took its place on Aladdin's face, as he prepared to tell - more or less - the story of how he got to know Jasmine in the first place.
Then the trumpets sounded, and that name was announced.
Aladdin couldn't even mind his manners anymore, he was so shocked that she'd found a way there. There was no way she could have put that all together in time - he'd barely made it at all just gathering his own caravan.
He realized three things: one, that he probably looked like some kind of pond fish, gaping at Jasmine like that; two, that he was filled with extreme worry about how she had managed to get there at all (in less-than-desirable health conditions, too) and therefore no better than any of her servants; and, three, that Cinderella and the entire party was still in the room.
"Jasmine," he said with a bit of a forced smile, "I'm glad you could make it." He didn't care if it broke decorum, he pulled her into a hug. "You'll have to tell me how you pulled this off later," he whispered, before pulling away.
"I promise we Arabians are much more punctual than we've appeared tonight," he attempted to joke with Cinderella.

Unfashionably Late (Aladdin & Cinderella)
Aladdin only just kept himself from wincing at the Princess’s observation - did he really look as run-down as he felt?
“Yes, thank you,” he responded, trying not to gasp with relief. Remembering what little he could of his etiquette classes, he said the nicest thing his exhausted brain could think up. “Princess Jasmine has been looking forward to meeting you for a while. She would’ve come anyway, if not for our…persistent staff.” He couldn’t help but smile a bit at the image of Jasmine shooing away all of their doting servants. “And how have you been, Princess?”
Aladdin couldn’t help but notice how heavy and impersonal the last word sounded and felt when he used it to address anyone but his wife.
Cinderella navigated her new acquaintance away from the King and prince hoping to give some relief to the both of them. She could tell Ali felt a little out of his element, and he certainly wasn’t alone. Cinderella often felt out of her element especially in the grand halls, but thankfully she knew how to keep her composure. Stress had a hard time of reaching her.
“Well, I look forward to meeting Princess Jasmine.” Cinderella remarked in return. “Though I understand illness needs rest, and I also understand how persistent staff could be.” She let out a small laugh. Her staff continuously fretted around the princess as if she were a delicate flower that needed constant pruning. Cinderella was more than capable of handling things on her own and she had 19 years to show of it.
“I’ve been very well thank you.” She handed the prince a flute of Champagne wine, directly from the region. Her etiquette teachers continuously told her how to be a good hostess and how to respond to the word princess, but the title still felt too stuffy for Cinderella. She wanted to make friends. “You may call me Cinderella if you’d like.” She said still in her refined voice, but then quietly relaxed added, “Princess can be a little stuffy sometimes.”
Aladdin took the wine, and sipped it cautiously, trying to be a polite guest. He never really drank, as life on the streets taught him to stay as alert as possible.
He began to relax around Pri - er, Cinderella - she'd sort of become an iconic figure throughout several kingdoms in the short time that she'd reigned, perhaps due to her natural poise and grace. He'd almost envied her for not having to work so hard for it, but in her company realized that maybe, just maybe, they were in the same boat. It was nice to have someone who could understand, if only a little.
"Alright, then, Cinderella," he agreed. "Also, I'm actually Aladdin, or just Al would be better. Ali's more of an...alias, that never really went away." Come to think of it, he didn't like the name Ali much. Where'd he come up with that again?
Unfashionably Late (Aladdin & Cinderella)
Cinderella meandered about greeting royal guests and honored guests alike. She smiled warmly, offered some small talk, but nothing more. She stayed on the arm of Prince Charming following him and his father, the King, around the ballroom. There were announcements of guests happening at the front of the ballroom, and Cinderella paid attention to each one attempting to remember everyone’s name and nation they belonged to.
The announcement of Ali of Agrabah stirred Cinderella’s attention as she looked towards to see the face. The prince looked slightly disheveled and disgruntled making Cinderella feel rather bad for him. She knew the feeling of being so out of place in a new world, and from the sound of it Agrabah was a much different place. It also looked different.
When he came to greet them, Cinderella curtsied back keeping her bow modest and refined. “Welcome,” She greeted with a smile and shook her head sweetly. “It is not a problem at all, but of course you must be parched from such a long, rushed journey. Would you, perhaps, care for a drink?” She tried her bit at being a hospitable host, and by the looks of it the King was pleased with her offerings to Prince Ali.

Unfashionably Late (Aladdin & Cinderella)
It had been dark out for a while when Aladdin, having rushed to get into his proper formal attire, unceremoniously sprinted into Prince Charming and Princess Cinderella's ballroom. He stopped dead in his tracks as the trumpets sounded and his arrival was announced.
"Prince Ali of Agrabah!"
He did his best to look relaxed and refined, but in reality, this was probably his third lowest point as a prince.
He couldn't help but feel like the street rat, Aladdin, all over again, within all that finery.
Striding down the room with what he thought looked like confident steps, he made his way over to the elegant hosts and bowed a deep, and, in his mind, ridiculous bow.
"Sorry about my timing, your majesties," he said, fighting the quiver of insecurity rising in his throat. "I was..."
What could he say? Jasmine got sick and he had become preoccupied with nursing her back to health to remember anything about politics and diplomacy and exactly why this ball was important? His father-in-law couldn't even accompany him because someone had to stay and care for her and Aladdin was the most stable enough to go anyway? He was trying to use this as an opportunity to "prove his competence as a prince"?
"...having family issues. Princess Jasmine and the Sultan wish they could be here and send their best wishes."
Aladdin was completely alone, with no help, surrounded by however many hundreds of royals who were possibly silently judging him. He'd never felt more trapped.
