“You never wrote to me." “No” he admits simply, before taking a long sip. Why not?” she whispers.

Zuko looks at her for a long, uncomfortable moment. His starlight eyes are endless and blazing. He studies her, his gaze passing over each feature, each plane of her face. She is not sure what he is looking for. The scrutiny burns in a way that is not unpleasant. It is strange, that there should be no shyness: no desire to draw back. Katara takes the opportunity to respond in kind. She drinks in the lines of his handsome face. The roughness of his scar. The curve of his lips. Zuko seems to be contemplating something. Long, agonising moments pass that Katara can hardly bear. Finally, resolve crystallises in Zuko’s eyes. His voice is low and hushed, but firm.
