Business, But Make It fashion

I always love seeing a dressed up business look. It is sleek, serious, and fun. I decided I wanted to achieve that feeling with this look. I started with a black skort (I love how it is practical, with the jacket on you couldn’t even tell it was shorts in the back) and matched the black blazer with it. The rolled sleeves made for a slightly less serious look, and also helped with the heat. To keep with the color coordination, I added strappy black heels. I paired a cream blouse with a bow detail to add a more feminine touch to the look. To bring the focus back to center I chose a double ring gold belt. Many people hear “business casual” and their mind automatically goes to a boring, overused look. Business casual,and many other looks, can be tampered with to create something more stylish, and something you feel more confident in. The key is to find small details that can be changed and made personal to you.

3 Looks, 1 Dress

How to get the most use out of your favorite simple dress. When you buy a piece of clothing, you don’t just have to wear it with one look. You can style it many different ways, especially if it’s a more basic piece. Here I am styling one of my favorite white lace dresses. I first threw it on with an oversized coat. Cinch it in with a belt and add a necklace, and you have a super versatile look, great for cool or warm weather, and able to be dressed up with some heels or down with flats! Next, I threw on a comfy blue sweater over it. The sweater was a little big, so I knotted it in the front. This not only gave me more shape, but added a cute detail. Lastly I layered it over a turtleneck. I chose plain black, but if you have a neutral color you can pair it with a more bright color if you want to channel spring time. Never be a “wear a day, throw it away” person, because the different combinations you can create with staple pieces are endless.

Style Mixing is a Thing

Putting together an outfit that utilizes multiple styles of fashion is a great way to show control. Being able to carefully put together an outfit that mixes different decades fashion is a hard skill, as you have to make sure everything flows nicely and is very well put together. I took inspiration from the 60s and 70s with the lace dress and soft brown jacket, cinched in with a belt that reflected brown in a lighter tone. The bright white ankle boots took this look to the 60s, as they reminded me of gogo boots. I got brought back to today when I added a pale blue/green purse that had snakeskin detailing, a trend that’s wildly popular right now. Accessories can be the key detail in making or breaking an outfit, and can also be the gateway to control in your look.

2019 Trend Predictions

Patterns on patterns

While the excitement of the fw19 shows is abuzz, let’s not forget about the trends that are nearly upon us. Very detailed patterns graced many runways during the ss19 shows. This trend is sure to make its way into 2019, as many stores have already started selling heavily patterned items. Elie Saab was particularly fond of this idea, as his show included a multitude of different patterns in the show. I am very fond of this trend, as it makes it very easy to take your outfit to the next level. If you cross pattern right it will make your outfit look very chic and give it a couture feeling, something that is much harder to do with plain pieces. Open your mind up to the world of patterns and jump on this trend!

Be in control. 

We don’t have control over a lot of things in life, but one thing we do have control of is what we wear. This is one reason why I love fashion so much, it gives me a sense of control and I can be proud of something I put together. Not only do we get to control what we wear, we can also control where somebody’s attention is drawn to. Your eyes might’ve been pulled to the bold red lipstick or purse. These pops of color diverted your attention which gave me control of where I wanted it. Pops of colors against solid backgrounds are very good for this purpose. You can wear a bold skirt or shoes to help draw attention to your legs, or wear eyeshadow to bring focus to your eyes. When you get dressed you are in charge, so play around with details so everything is arranged and perceived how you want it.

Try something new.

When I first thought about putting this body suit and jacket together I thought there was no way it would look right. These pieces seem to be of two different distinctive style groups. You have a very edgy and bulky army-esque jacket, and a romantic, black turtleneck lace body suit. The two pieces conventionally don’t go together, but I was actually pleasantly surprised to see how they looked on. My main concern was the lace sleeves going passed the 3 quarter length jacket sleeves. I was worried they would look out of place, but it actually turned out to be a neat detail that I ended up appreciating very much. Try looking through your closet and pairing two different items that you didn’t think would compliment each other very well together, you might turn out surprised and love them, like I did! Putting pieces together that seem to be of different styles is a great way to stand out and help you explore new ways to put together amazing outfits. Try something new, and the great thing about fashion is, if it doesn’t work out you can always take it off and try again.

2019 Trend Predictions

Romance is in the air...and in the fashion industry.

The girly-ness of the mid 20th century is back. If you love the soft romantic side of fashion, then you’ll love what’s coming in 2019. Several designers, including Givenchy, included tight pleats in their collection, so bring out your old pleated skirts because pretty soon everyone will be sporting this simple detail. To pair with that, many models were seen wearing big frills that are often seen as a very feminine touch. The cherry on top is a bow detail. Bows are often seen as very elegant touches, perfectly complimenting the other trends. Designers, like Rosario, included big bows in their looks.Expect to dig up your old bows from 2014, because they are back and bigger (literally) than ever!

It’s all about the details!

“Will it even make a difference?”

Yes, yes it will! While many people don’t notice small details if they’re absent, the little things really do make a difference when you put them all together. A helpful fashion tip is to add a simple belt, necklace, or jacket to make your outfit look more put together. This outfit went from a semi boring tee and jeans to a casual and stylish look when I added fishnets, a belt, and a ring. Keep it dressed down with some sneakers, or opt for some fancier heeled ankle boots. These small things really help bring together an outfit, after all, fashion really is about the small details! If you’re having trouble putting together an outfit and wondering what to do for that extra “wow!” factor, trying adding a few accessories and watch your whole look come together!

Beautiful weather, beautiful fashion. The sunshine shone wonderfully today and I decided to keep with the darker colors of winter, but with weather appropriate pieces. As pleats were seen many a times on the runway, I brought back one of my favorite pleated skirts to welcome in the new trend. The color and style of the skirt reminded me of vintage, so I opted for a more puckered shirt that could give me the old time feel more than a tight shirt could. Nude pumps brought back the modern feel and a simple, black handbag tied it all together. I love this outfit and it’s flow and versatility. It is appropriate for spring if it is becoming warm where you live, but could’ve easily been suited for colder weather if you swap the heels for over the knee boots and sheer black hose. Fashion is all about seeing separate pieces and putting them together as one of your own creation. Try taking some of your favorite pieces and styling them for the opposite season for even more outfit combinations than you had before!

2019 Trend Predictions

Color on color on color!

Designers were not shy with color on the runway this year. From bright neons, to rich chocolate browns, here’s what to expect this year....

Neon! If you’re a fan of this bright look, then 2019 is the year for you! Designers, like Versace, were not shy about letting neon rule the runway. Bust out all your brightest articles of clothing, because this trend is back in a big way.

Deep chocolate browns. This earthy tone was a big part of ss19, from bags to boots to dresses. Make some room in your closet for this deep brown, a color that always comes back in style. Valentino included this beautiful shade in his collection, so make sure you include it in yours!

Pressed Rose. Move out of the way Millenial Pink, this darker dusty rose is the new black. Transitioning from a brighter shade, Pressed Rose takes a more mature look with its darker tone. This color will surely, and already has, become a staple for 2019 street style.

Buttery yellow. Many designers included this unique shade in some of their silk pieces. If you’re a fan of bold colors, this ones for you!

And finally...

Pantone’s color of the year: Living Coral. The color of the year is always based on many important factors and extensive research. This color perfectly fits the theme of bright tones expected to take over 2019. Not only will it be in fashion, but expect to find it in makeup, home decor and more!

Western, western, western!

The romanticized cowboy look is expected to make a big comeback in 2019, so breakout your old fringe jackets and purses! From skirts to shoes to bags, this style is making its way back into our wardrobe. Many designers included this beloved detail during ss19. Designers, including Calvin Klein, also busted out the cowboy boots for the runways - so get ready for this trend to slowly trickle down into streetwear this season.

I have always loved fashion. The thought of putting together a new outfit everyday and having endless combinations thrills me. I decided to start this blog to dip into fashion journalism and also keep up with the latest trends.

The beginning of the year is always so exciting for fashion. With new trends just emerging and slowly slipping into spring, there are many ways you can style your outfits. One way I love to transition my style into the new season is to keep with the theme of winter and dress in dark shades with a pop of color. I chose sleek black and whites with a pop of dusty rose, which is expected to be a big color in 2019. I drew inspiration from 50s style with the big, white sunglasses and higher neckline. The tighter tucked in shirt provided a nice contrast with the baggier striped pants. To compliment the white in the pants I chose white, flat toed shoes, another big trend prediction. A classic black Kate Spade handbag and a gold chained, black stoned necklace tied the whole look together. Keeping with dark tones and a pop of color is an easy way to have a beautiful and chic look. Add some simple accessories and you are ready to walk the runway!
