ik how to describe it exactly its a feature of high control groups small vulnerable communities moderated by a small handful of staff like reddits discords or forums are inherently more likely to develop into high control groups especially when the communities inherently consist of the kinds of people not likely to have a lot of external supports

many high control groups actually have "isolate yourself from friends and family and external supports" as an explicit step 4chan and reddit communities help achieve this by using specialized language and convincing people of loudly repulsive rhetoric that will distance them from others and in the case of queer communities this step is often a whole lot easier

they feed on your darkest insecurities and regurgitate them back into your own mouth and they treat positivity in any form like its inherently toxic theyre very sly and sneaky about it and likely often dont even realize theyre doing it but theyre copying behaviors from groups theyve been in before which were similarly high control and like zmpl said all of this will often be disguised under a thin veneer of 17 layers of "irony" tm
