Back in the day when assistant directors looked like partisans of wars past.
I usually write characters who seek redemption or absolution. Many dont realize they might be beyond it, even the “heroes”.
Appearance deceives and the silence betrays

Red Forest, dark thoughts of absolution. A glimpse of redemption in post-apocalyptic world.
The Irredeemables is nearing its three year anniversary. S.T.A.L.K.E.R fanfilm made with love and filmed in authentic environment.

Need more Star Wars after Rogue One? Check out fan film from few years back. Zero budget, zero expectations!

Finnish language tends to drive casual viewers away, but worry not! English subtitles available.
The Endlings portrays what few idiots can do with very low budget: post-apocalyptic short film, 15 minutes, high bodycount, plenty of broken glass and pessimistic outlook on future!
Lightsabers are inherently cool. Here’s a little tutorial on lightsaber decapitation I made for older fanfilm of mine. I just kind of came up with the effect as I went along, so I’m unsure how elegant it is. Probably not too elegant, but it works.
After Order 66, every jedi is a hunted exile. A lone jedi knight evaded his former clone troopers, but is now pursued by bounty hunters...
“Jedi Knight, Exile” is easily my most successful short film. Everyone loves Star Wars, that definitely helps. One of the remarkable things VFX wise is the battle: one jedi vs 10 bounty hunters, but it was all filmed with one actor and creative use of cloning.
“It wasn’t about the war. It never was. It was what came after"
“ A void gasping for atonement”
R.U.O.S.K.A, scifi short film about remorse, retribution and redemption.
Post-apocalyptic? Unless you cover everyone in dirt and mud people WILL say "they're too clean"... Apparently ability to get dirt of your face is the first thing to go in post-apocalyptic world.
The Endlings, “guilty” of too clean characters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpoZXldpTvw
Came for Hollywood quality? Wrong goddamn address, we do things with low budget and love for the craft.
It has bought us no glory thus far and propably never will.

Farther in the future your scifi film is based in, the older the clothing should be. Or at least that’s how I see it
Set extensions / matte paintings: Only show them very briefly or make them really good. It has always been downfall of my background replacements. It’s always too easy to spot weird things
