FUCK that’s a damn powerful statement. I wanna paste that quote on every surface in every makeup store and plastic surgeon’s office across the globe.

it’s so commonly believed that makeup, cosmetic surgery, and sex work/pornography is “empowering” to women JUST because there is some vague idea of “choice”.

makeup is a choice, sure, but it is not without extreme outside influence and pressure from peers, media, and ads. you can “choose” to wear makeup, but it is still conforming to harmful stereotypes and practices.

cosmetic surgery is also so normalized- people say you should do what makes you happy and makes you feel good about your body. but every nose job i see looks like the euro-centric button nose that seems popular right now. wouldn’t it be mentally healthier to learn to love your healthy body as it is before making some irreversible changes?

sex work and pornography are the most controversial, because for some reason being against sex work is seen as being against the sex “workers”. i am not against them, but the awful things they are made to do. priveleged women who maybe do cam work or sell pictures often disagree saying it isnt harmful and it is sexually empowering. but all the women who were sold into sex trafficking or had to resort to porn or prostitution to survive could beg to differ. many female porn actors are forced to do dangerous and painful stuff that can cause permanent physical and mental damage. that is NOT empowering.

makeup and cos. surgery companies will pretend they care about you, pornhub pretends to be “woke” when they have content of minors being R*PED, “slave & master” videos that are horrifically racist and sexist, and overall disgusting treatment of women on their website.

this corporate “feminism” isn’t feminist. it’s an excuse to do the exact same things society was doing before, but with a “progressive” new coat of paint.
