Sherlock study based on the colours and lighting in a self portrait by David Leffel. Painted digitally from scratch in Photoshop CS5 using the Edvard Munch brushes by Kyle Webster. Hopefully the first of many such studies while I learn how to paint in colour and manipulate light :)

For probably the first time in my life, I committed to pushing contrast and it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be haha. This one feels like a bit of a level-up for me and I’m so happy with it!

A day off, sitting in my studio with the warm winter sunshine streaming through the windows while I listen to good music, burn caramel scented wax and draw Orphan Black clones to pass the time. What a perfect day!

If at first you don’t succeed, have another fucking go at it! First attempt was a laughable fail. Second attempt satisfactory. Oi oi Sarah!

Mrs S in sanguine and white charcoal on toned paper. Haven’t done much sketching lately but just signed up for The Essentials of Realism on Schoolism so I can go back over the fundamentals and fix some of the bad habits I’ve learned through being self taught. Scary going back to square one!!

I normally draw dogs and cats as commissions for people. I realised it’s been years since I last drew a proper portrait of a person so it’s time to remedy that with my first decent portrait of Cucumberpatch <3 Hurrah for personal projects!

You are so kind ❤️ I’ve been drawing realism since I was 13 (am now 26). Getting better at drawing is a never-ending journey and I genuinely believe anyone can do it with enough time, patience and guidance!

I think I’ve really lost the plot this time haha. The original photo is black and white and because I have no self respect, I thought I’d try and paint it in colour, referencing a colour palette from one of the amazing paintings by Elicia Donze.

I reworked this so many times to try and get it right. It’s close enough!
