Time for me to hop off uk med Twitter for a bit I think (not that I ever posted but time to stop doomscrolling through it) like it’s never great but we’re currently wrapping up some of the biggest junior doctor industrial action probably ever (don’t quote me on that lol) and uk med twitter is ablaze with 🥺idk guys saying we save lives as doctors makes me feel kinda icky🥺im just a humble guy doing a humble job in a humble way🥺
US med twitter: ummm guys did you remember im a DOCTOR i even put all of my credentials into my username I’m a DOCTOR who SAVES LIVES EVERY SINGLE DAY whilst working INSANE ONE HUNDRED HOUR WEEKS quick let me break patient confidentiality and all of the ethical moral standards to show you this GNARLY SCAN LOOK WHAT I CHOPPED OUT OF THEM
UK med twitter: please sir may I have some more gruel I am but a lowly humble doctor merely observing life pass me by for the winters are long and my landlords are cruel I wouldn’t possibly dare to suggest I have a critical job that saves lives when there are millions of other people with other jobs and clearly if I acknowledge the roles and responsibilities of my job I am in turn denigrating the roles of every single other job in the country despite never casting such aspersions and anybody who deigns to suggest that we save lives as doctors is automatically classist and reinforcing the bourgeoisie
The lesson we should all take from this is that the only good med Twitter is path Twitter (and even they skate on thin ice on occasion)

Officially under two weeks till the exam, I’ve been taking digital notes but still handwriting them using an iPad and Apple Pencil - am right handed and today woke up with my entire upper right neck/shoulder/arm/upper chest in spasm 😬
I had a dream I was reporting my own gastric biopsies and missed my own tiny focus of signet ring carcinoma these exam anxiety dreams have gone too far now
shout out to everyone who participated in the january-february mass depressive episode
this sentence came so far out of left field i reflexively closed the tab and had to open it up again to take this screenshot. i mean like yes its true that mushrooms are not plants but ive literally never ever ever ever met or even heard of anyone anywhere at any time who has used this definition of a plant-based diet
im left with so many questions. does she not use yeast? if her definition of “plant based diet” is so literal that it doesnt include mushrooms, does it also not include salt? does she not eat fermented food because bacteria arent plants? why does she not eat fungi? clearly its not an issue of taste, she praises the taste here. does she think theyre unhealthy somehow? does she have moral objections to eating fungus? i would like to interview her
there’s clearly a morel issue here
my favourite thing on tumblr is reblogging a post like "oh that mutual is gonna love this" and then seeing them reblog it from you
I know some people get mad about people leaving too many tags on their posts but that is Not Me. Tell me your thoughts boy I'm nosy as fuck
One day I will be able to contact a surgeon with questions about the specimens they send as a pathologist and not experience deep foreboding … one day
Pathology trainees are either
“I discovered pathology at the age of seven years old it’s the only reason I dragged myself through medical school the only thing I ever considered”
Or
“I considered approximately seventy three different medical careers, worked twenty nine different jobs, started nine training programmes and quit them all - I’d never heard of pathology at all and had zero idea what a pathologist did as a job because nobody ever tells you at uni but as soon as this random guy doing a one off locum I met at 3am in a corner of this far flung hospital I worked in that one time told me about it I knew it was the one for me”
Like there is no in between
They’re both excellent btw there’s no competition
at the beginning / in the middle
I’m just a girl, working from home, wearing leggings under sweatpants, a top, two jumpers and a fleece, fuzzy socks inside slipper boots, with two blankets on my lap, and a permanent hot drink in my hand because who can afford to heat their homes all day every day in this cost of living crisis
HEARTBREAKING: Poor girl has to get out of the soft warm bed even though she is so so so so comfy
Being a junior doctor in the uk at the moment means that any time yet another of my medical friends move to Australia/New Zealand, their stories for the weeks after the move are inevitably filled with reunions with countless British medics out there already, and I can easily name another handful of people seriously considering moving out there. I think the general public are aware these moves are happening but not sure anybody outside of the medical circle is aware of just how big these numbers are, it’s not a trickle it’s an established post foundation route for significant numbers - I probably know the same or higher number of people who moved out there as people who went into a training programme. There is zero point increasing med school capacity if we can’t hold onto doctors at the other end. Our local med school already has a class so large there’s only one lecture theatre in the entire uni that will hold them all.
wheres your whimsy. wheres your fucking whimsy
