Any tips for ELAT & interviews at oxford?

I never sat the ELAT, so can’t help there. For interviews, my usual advice is:

Organise a practice interview if you can (ideally with someone you don’t know, e.g. a teacher from another school) - get your teachers to help with this!

If you mention a book/article in your personal statement - have a general opinion on the book & then pick 1/2 things to talk about in interview. Generally they’ll ask something like “how did you find this book” and I think it comes across well if you can say “oh well I thought x,y,z, but I found a super interesting because ...” & do some extra research on those talking points

Talk out loud - totally cool to be like ‘i’m just going to think out loud’ and then do just that

Show that you can listen, think and reflect. It’s okay to change your mind based on new information they give you (as long as you think it’s important/relevant information!)

Those horror stories you hear are usually untrue, or just taken out of context. I haven’t met a single person who had one of those rogue experiences that you hear about - usually, if you get some slightly weird questions, they’ll be related to what you were discussing beforehand. I
