what do you mean, i have to manage time efficiently in order to learn one more language and maintain the fluency of the three others? this wasn't part of the contract i thought i could just absorb the words like an ediacaran organism

To my surprise, the Advendskalender I bought this year has quotes on the inside, so apart from a chocolate I’ll have a German advent challenge.

First I’ll try to translate without dictionaries or online translators (I still have moments where I do know all the words and the sentence still doesn’t make any sense) and then I’ll double check it.

Today’s quote:

„Der beste Weg, sich selbst eine Freude zu machen, ist zu versuchen, einem anderen eine Freude zu bereiten“ – Mark Twain

Translation:

“The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer somebody else up” – Mark Twain

I mixed up “Freude” and “Freunde” and I didn’t remember what “bereiten” meant, so the whole thing didn’t make much sense.

And I learned the expression „eine Freude machen“ :)

I have mixed feelings when my brain switches to Denglisch. I mean, it's nice that the language is finally coming naturally at random moments, but "Tuestag", seriously???

(Well, I guess my brain is doing what it can to switch contexts between 3 languages on a daily basis without going completely kaputt)

Du hast doch ‘ne Meise / einen Vogel - you’re bonkers, nuts

Eine Meise - a blue-tit

Ich bin total platt! - tired, exhausted 

Alles in Butter - everything’s cool, all good 

Da steh ich voll drauf - I’m a fan of that, I like that 

Das ist der Hammer! - that’s awesome

Das ist nicht mein Bier! - not my business, doesn’t concern me 

Da habe ich ein bisschen geflunkert! - that may have been a little lie / I may have lied just a bit there

These two are my morning companions since last week. I’m 75% through my A2 course, but I don’t feel I have a strong A2 German yet, so I decided to buy this textbook and review A level grammar. Right now I’m reviewing the few gender rules that exists (will I ever get them right?) and practicing adjective declension, because that’s what I’m learning in class.

Listening to Der Hobbit, my 2nd fav book. I don’t even understand 25% of it, but if this book doesn’t motivate me to listen to things in German, nothing will.
