current feeling about the pitt: i’m fatigued
these last two episodes are very good, however they are indicating a progression in the show writing i don’t really like. the tension building starting to feel really drawn out and overdone. as well, i feel like they’ve started to shoehorn two or three big dramatic plots and let all the interesting moments with nurses or patients that ground the show fall to the wayside.
for example, i want one single conversation to be resolved before being interrupted or incomplete. it doesn’t feel like characters interacting so much as building up dramatic moments. the show is starting to feel less about the patients and procedures, or even the doctors, and more about drama and fighting and seeing how miserable and frustrated the characters can become.
another example, the ice agents in the building had great potential for a really impactful moment. i wish we’d stuck around with lupe or some of the patients/nurses who left. instead, i felt the story was centered around robby and his declining mental state, with him confronting the agents and focusing on the stress it was causing him. obviously that is an aspect of their presence in the hospital but i feel like there was so much more they could have done in that moment to expand the show and ground it a little rather than hammering the same “look robby’s not doing well” drama plot. i hope i articulated that well.
i don’t remember if season 1 felt this way at this point in the season. i just feel as if they are really hammering the dramatic interpersonal aspects of this season but not in a meaningful way for the characters. everyone is just miserable.
sorry this wasn’t very coherent. i’m interested if anyone else is feeling this fatigue or if you have another take on it.
