Ukraine Independence Day 2015
Date: August 24, 2015
Today we honor Ukrainian heritage with a reimagining of our logo as a traditional Ukrainian rushnyk. Embroidery has ancient roots in Ukraine, and so does the cultural significance of the kalyna digitally stitched into the center of today’s Doodle. This flowery shrub features prominently in Ukrainian literature, music, and folklore as a symbol of posterity and irrevocable family bonds, and often appears on the rushnyks sewn to celebrate Ukrainian births and weddings.
Location: Ukraine

Olga Kosach (pen name: Lesia Ukrainka) was a famous ukrainian writer, poet, political activist, feminist. She’s well-known for her strength and spirit. Her poems inspired many to fight for the independence of Ukraine. Her life was full of hardships because of the horrible illness she obtained at young age, which made her practically bed-ridden. Also, interesting fact, that many try to obscure, but she was romantically involved with fellow author and poet - Olga Kobilanska. They met and fell in love, but mostly we know of their relationship through their correspondence where they expressed their affections towards each other in a somewhat coded manner. But nevertheless Olga was married to a man and had some romantic connections with other men. Thus, we shouldn’t exclude the fact that Olga Kosach may have been a bad-ass bisexual lady. In addition to this she was a kick-ass feminist and constantly fought for equality.

Switched from Starbucks to a local coffee shop cause the jazz music was making my ears bleed and so was the Lighting. I was very, very close to giving up my work cause I literally have no motivation to finish this paper but this is the last straw to finish this class with an A so I had to. Change your surroundings if you feel like shit. It’ll help.
