What is the difference between architecture and architecture engineer?

This is how things are in Poland, where I live.

Generally speaking, what I meant was that I got BSc degree. I can't say "I'm an architect" because I've only completed first stage. 

In my university the first one lasts 7 semesters (3 and a half year) and you finish it with an engineering degree. Then there's the second stage, which lasts 3 semesters (1 and a half year) and you get your master's degree.

The main difference between those two is that you can officially do more things when you finish the full 5 years. But to be honest even after getting your master's degree you still don't have permissions to be independent architect, there's a whole new process to become one. (Like for example you have to work for two years on a construction site ect.) It's very complitated and I often find myself answering those kind of questions. I know college works different everywhere but here it's what it is.

Tokyo at Night by Mateusz Urbanowicz

Mateusz Urbanowicz, also known as Matto, is a Polish artist and illustrator currently based in Tokyo. He originally moved to Japan to study animation and comics and he landed himself a gig at Tokyo-based animation film studio CoMix Wave, where he did backgrounds for, among other things, the film “Your Name.”

In 2017 he left the studio and began working as a freelancer so he could focus on personal projects like Tokyo Storefronts. His latest project is Tokyo at Night, a series of 10 watercolors illustrating the backstreets of Tokyo at night. The 10 illustrations were created along a path from Kudanshita that goes through the neighborhood of Kagurazaka and ends at Waseda.

H.R. Giger: Surrealist Artist and “Alien” Designer

H.R. Giger, actually less known for his full name, Hans Ruedi Giger, is a Swiss artist who created highly influential artwork in the style of Fantastic-Realism. 

He was born in 1940, in Chur, Switzerland and studied architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. Giger’s developed interest in morbid and frightful images, as he describes himself, has been possibly influenced by a sleeping disorder and/or birth trauma. In the seventies, he discovered the airbrush and, along with it, his own unique freehand painting style, leading to the creation of many of his most well-known works, the surrealistic Biomechanical dreamscapes, which formed the cornerstone of his fame. The artist died in 2014.

Hello! :) What concept would you suggest for family(2 parents and 2 children) residential house on slope?

if it’s a slope house and the children are involved i would definitely suggest to focus your concept on safety :D as for the construction, i would probably use some piles, remember about the ground water level…i also got this idea in my head, you could make a pool on that slope, with a view on the city and everthing (or wherever your slope is located). anyway, i would have to know more to give you any advice, but i hope i helped anyway ;)

Being an architecture student would involve :

- Having a messed up sleep schedule, for example stay awake for 3 days straight, then have a thirty hours nap.

-Gradually losing your eyesight because of the hours you spent in front of a screen.

- Your bedroom being a constant mess, composed of cut out cardboard and sheets and spare scalpel blades scattered all around.

- Your hands looking like they’ve gone through a blender, your eyes having dark circles around them 

- Glue everywhere. On your desk, on your hands, on your ceiling (true story)

- Not even caring about the other subjects because studio is the most important.

-Constant trips to the shop with your archi friends, walking across town with huge sheets and balsa and glue and always forgetting something.

-You go with a model, you come back with a pile of torn cardboard because your teacher didn’t like it. And even if they did, you’d have to do it again

-Spending all your money on prints, and pencils and stuff you’ll only use for one year or two. Architecture studies are expensive

-Making true friends who understand what you do (I hate when people tell me “Well that’s only some drawing an DIY) and comfort you and with whom you spend hours and hours (Working or talking, or both)

Of course there are a lot more that i didn’t talk about. Also, I’m from Belgium so it might be different where you live…

Hey Archy! Do you have any ideas for a BSc Thesis topic for an architecture student? My major supervisor told me I can literally choose anything and obviously this is mostly why the choice is so hard ;) What did you design for your degrees? What "works" best for a student to make and at the same time isn't very.. hackneyed? I'd be grateful for any help, thanks in advance!

I wish I could offer some ideas, but I never had to choose a thesis topic. I would advice you to choose something you feel curious about and interests you, instead of trying to select a cool or trendy topic because you might end up chasing your own tail!.

Dinara Kasko’s sculptural cakes are carved from sheets of chocolate

The multilayered, three-dimensional works of artist José Margulis have been transformed into tasty treats by architect-turned-patisserie chef Dinara Kasko. The Kinetic Tarts are the result of a collaboration between Kakso and Margulis, who worked together to create edible versions of his artworks for food publication So Good.
