@studyingharley
gentle reminder for when you feel demotivated
thereâs nothing wrong with feeling demotivated, so please donât punish yourself for that â everyone, even the most successful people in the world, can fall into a slump
you can do it
i believe in you
itâs not going to be as bad as you think
donât place too high expectations on yourself, especially when youâre feeling low
set small and specific goals â little steps are always important
print out or write down what you need to do and put that note where you know youâre going to see it
set yourself a specific time for when youâre going to start working on something, but donât put too much pressure on yourself if youâre unable to
see what others are doing and achieving, and use that as motivation instead of comparing yourself to them and putting yourself down
call for help from others to cheer you on when you canât do it on your own
counter your negative thoughts with positive ones
think about the benefits of doing the task, instead of the difficulties it will take to get there
take deep breaths and take a step back when things become too overwhelming or the stress takes over (hereâs a written breathing exercise, or a gif you can breathe along with)
take breaks, donât overload yourself
if you think that your schedule is becoming more and more of the same thing every single day, that can heavily impact your motivation - so try your best to try something new, or even just do something that you would usually do in a different way, or with a different outlook; it doesnât matter if the change you make is big or small, because every attempt goes towards progress
when youâve completed what you needed to, or even just worked at it a little bit, make sure to congratulate yourself, because youâre trying and iâm so proud of you for that
try your best, because your best is good enough
you got this
Friendly reminder: when people say âas long as you tried your bestâ it doesnât mean âthe best you could possibly have done everâ it means âthe best you were capable of at the time.â Sometimes âtrying your bestâ is just getting out of bed in the morning. Just because you werenât working yourself to the bone doesnât mean you werenât trying your best.Â

How to Feign Your Life is Together
Have a signature accessory, clothing article, make up look, or hair style.
Have a fragrance. Make your hair scents and lotions match your perfume.
Itâs okay to dine alone. Bring a book or people watch.
Love your hair. Research the best brands for your hair type and use masks weekly.
Your nails donât need to be fancy, but keep them maintained.
Stay worldly. Know works of art, artists, designers, films, books, politicians. Spend your lunch break reading the paper or a magazine.
Crying is not a weapon. Itâs okay to feel your emotions, but never use them as an excuse to avoid your problems.
Jealousy is boring. Love and appreciate others. If you canât love them, forget them.
Boost others. Flatter others, but donât deprecate yourself in the process.
Donât sulk. Donât let the whole world know your problems. If you donât want someone to give their opinion, donât share your situation.
Your life is between you and the universe. Donât post your personal matters for others to see.
Donât emotionally blackmail others. They hurt you? Let them know and then move on. Itâs between the two of you and not the world.
Cook dinner. Cook dinner and listen to music, the radio, or a podcast.
Treat yourself to candles and flowers. Be your own cheerleader.
Take naps. Take a cat nap on a Sunday afternoon with the blinds open and the fan on high.
Drink your water, eat your vegetables. Take care of your body.
Never have time to take off your jewelry before bed, but always have time to take off your makeup. Your nighttime skin regime is important.
Mystery is beautiful. You donât need to reveal much of or about yourself.
Never appear other than as you are. Donât lie about yourself. Embrace who you are at your core.
this post is for anyone who feels a little lost right now. maybe you donât know what your path in life is yet. maybe you hate your job. maybe youâre still in school and youâve changed your major three times. maybe youâre confused about what it is that you want. maybe you know exactly what you want but have no idea how to get it.Â
you will figure it out. you are not dead yet. you are going to figure your shit out. i believe in you.Â
you will unlearn all of the bad habits you taught yourself and you will grow into someone stronger than you ever imagined you could be
fucked up how cooking and baking from scratch is viewed as a luxuryâŠ..like baking a loaf of bread or whatever is seen as something that only people with money/time can do. Iâm not sure why capitalism decided to sell us the idea that we canât make our own damn food bc itâs a special expensive thing thatâs exclusive to wealthy retirees but itâs stupid as hell and it makes me angry
bread takes like max 4 ingredients counting water and sure it takes a couple hours but 80% of that is just waiting around while it does the thing and you can do other things while itâs rising/baking plus im not gonna say baking cured my depression bc it didnât but man is it hard to feel down when youâre eating slices of fresh bread you just made yourself. feels like everythingâs gonna be a little more ok than you thought. itâs good.
bread is amazing and itâs also been sold to us as something really hard to make? Every time I tell someone I made a loaf of bread I get reactions like âyou made it yourself???â and âdo you have a bread machine then?â I havenât touched a bread machine in probably 10 years. You CAN make your own bread, folks, and itâs actually pretty cheap to do so. I believe the most expensive thing I needed for it was the jar of yeast. It was about $6 at the grocery store and lasted me MONTHS (just keep it in the fridge.) The packets are even cheaper. destroy capitalism. bake your own bread.
You can also make your own yeast by making a sourdough starter, so that cuts cost even more.
But you have to feed the starter daily/weekly and that means it grows quickly, but there are tons of recipes online for what to do with your excess starter. Cookies, pretzels, crackers, pancakes, waffles, you name it!!
Hereâs a link to The Home Baking Associationâs site. It has recipes and tips.
Make it even easier - âNo-Knead Breadâ. All YOU do is mix the ingredients together and wait until itâs time to heat the oven. The yeast does all the rest.
Hereâs @dduaneââs first take on it and the finished product. Weâve made even more photogenic batches since.
Kneading is easy as well; either let your machine do it, or if you donât want to or donât have one, get hands-on. Itâs like mixing two colours of Plasticine to make a third. Flatten, stretch, fold, half-turn, repeat - it takes about 10 minutes - until the gloopy conglomeration of flour, yeast, salt and water that clings to your hands at the beginning, becomes a compact ball that doesnât stick to things and feels silky-smooth.
Hereâs what before and after look like.
My Mum used to say that if you were feeling out of sorts with someone, it was good to make bread because you could transfer your annoyance into kneading the dough REALLY WELL, and both you and the bread would be better for it.
Then you put it into a bowl, cover it with cling-film and let it rise until it doubles in size, turn it out and âknock it backâ (more kneading, until itâs getting back to the size it started, this means there wonât be huge âis something living in here?â holes in the bread), put it into your loaf-tin or whatever - weâve used a regular oblong tin, a rectangular Pullman tin with a lid, a small glass casserole, an earthenware chicken roasterâŠ
You can even use a clean terracotta flowerpot.
Let the dough rise again until itâs high enough to look like an unbaked but otherwise real loaf, then pop it in the preheated oven. On average we give ours 180°C / 355°F for 45-50 minutes. YM (and oven) MV.
Hereâs some of our breadâŠ
Hereâs our default bread recipe - it takes about 3-4 hours from flour jar to cutting board depending on climate (warmer is faster) most of which is rise time and baking; hands-on mixing, kneading and knocking-back is about 20 minutes, tops, and less if using a mixer.
Here ( or indeed any of the other pics) is the finished product. This one was given an egg-wash to make it look glossy and keep the poppy-seeds in place; mostly we donât bother with that or the slash down the middle, but all the extras were intentional as a âready for my close-upâ glamour shot.
I think any shop would be happy to have something this good-looking on their shelf. Weâre happy to have it on our table.
Even if your first attempts donât work out quite as well as you hope, you can always make something like thisâŠ
can we have more posts like this in future please? this is really useful and could help those who are struggling

Realistic Self-Talk
This too shall pass & my life will be better.
I am a worthy and good person.Â
I am doing the best I can, given my history and level of current awareness.
Like everyone else, I am a fallible person and at times will make mistakes and am committed to learning from them.
What is, is.
Look at how much I have accomplished, and I am still progressing.
There are no failures, only different degrees of success.
Be honest and true to myself.
It is OK to let myself be distressed for awhile.
I am not helpless. I can and will take the steps needed to get through during crisis.Â
I will remain engaged and involved instead of isolating and withdrawing during this situation.
This is an opportunity, instead of a threat. I will use this experience to learn something new, to change my direction, and/or to try a new approach.Â
Other people are responsible for their reactions to me.Â
I can stand anything for a while because I am resilient.Â
In the long run, who will remember or care?Â
I see all things through the eyes of compassion.
January 12, 2018 | 10:24 AM PT
I just read somewhere that Game of Thrones season 8 is starting next year in 2019 so WOOOO I have all of this year to get caught up in all the drama hahaha. Iâm nearly done with Season 1 and I have about a month to binge before school starts in the spring again, and then summer if Iâm not done with the series.
Btw the GoT logo and âwinter is comingâ text are hand-drawn with my trusty Muji pen. Look at the awful kerning on the right page hahah. I probably shouldnât have gotten a spiral-bound planner because of leftie issues.
Positive Weekly Aesthetics
Monday: New week, new motivation, a pile of finished homework and a nicely organised pencil case. A clean, fresh bullet journal spread and empty to-do lists. Your outfit is ready for you when you wake up, prepared the night before.Â
Tuesday: Getting into the rhythm, your favourite tunes and morning runs. Your journal starts to fill up, cute drawings decorating the pages. The world seems slow, the week long as it has just started; yet it is chaotic at the same time.
Wednesday: Hump day. Early morning coffee and messy lecture notes, sticky notes with reminders and to-do lists, scribbling on white boards and collapsing in bed with blankets and a good book after a long day, the distant sound of rain hitting your windows.
Thursday: Grabbing brunch with friends and laughing at old memories, green smoothies and almond croissants. Friendly curious talks with your teachers and professors. Working on an assignment due weeks away and watching a movie by the fireplace.
Friday: Looking forward to the weekend, early morning study and typed notes. Going through colourful flashcards at a local cafe, friendly smiles and latte art. Going out at night and loud music blasting through your ears, walking home with friends under the cool air and peaceful stars.
Saturday: Green tea and cold water, warm showers and sleeping in. Readings and PowerPoints, looking out into the busy streets from your beautiful desk. Getting dressed up, sharp eyeliner wings and meeting with friends, engaging conversations during dinner and later crawling into the warmth and comfort of your bed.
Sunday: Lazy mornings and making pancakes in your pyjamas, finishing homework and getting a head start on next weekâs readings. Dancing freely as you clean and organise and being comfortable in your own skin. Watching your favourite TV show at night and going to bed early and ready for next week.
