“I have done nothing all summer but wait for myself to be myself again —”
— Georgia O’Keeffe, in a letter to Russel Vernon Hunter, from Georgia O’Keeffe: Art and Letters
september will be kind. september will be magical. september will bring the missing energy. september will be working towards our goals and self. september will be a month full of growth.
Do u ever think about how dogs, who have 2 colour receptors, see an apple as grayish yellow, while humans have 3 and see it as red, and mantis shrimp have 12, and see it another monstrous colour altogether?
How none of us are necessarily correct, and the apple itself, is not really any colour, it’s just a fruit minding its own goddamn business??
Fucking fascinating
We don’t know how ANYTHING TASTES, SOUNDS, LOOKS, FEELS, OR SMELLS
If you think about it just a bit too much like I did, you'll reach the conclusion that nothing really tastes, sounds, looks, feels or smells. It's just your brain's interpretation of chemical composition, vibrations, the way things reflect light, more vibrations and chemical composition again
Reality can’t be proven to exist outside of our ability to perceive it through our senses but our senses can’t be trusted so basically nothing is real do what you want
Today on Tumblr Accidentally Recapitulates Wittgenstein's Theory of Experiential Epistomology
Tfw you shitpost so hard you accidentally write a beautiful summary of the defining breakthrough of 20th century philosophy.
STOP TAKING AWAY ONE OF THE FEW CERTAINTIES IN MY LIFE!
In today’s news: brain makes up stuff all the time about everything, so why worry?
it is constantly amazing and terrifying to me the amount of propaganda that is necessary in order to sustain capitalism
I'm not saying this to sound so smart and evolved, I'm absolutely including myself in this. I am constantly in awe of how much I have had to unlearn and how much more I need to unlearn. The first time I saw someone criticizing the nuclear family model, I was completely taken aback, and now I fully recognize the ways in which this social family model perpetuates abuse, poverty, and neglect.
And the capitalist class really has us believing that the products we consume have something to say about our identity. It's fucking wild.
The United States is a country that believes that the availability of 27 different types of Oreos is somehow an indication of freedom while people starve to death on the streets and die because they can't afford a medication whose price is artificially inflated.
The idea that someone can earn (and therefore deserves) millions or billions of dollars is absolutely asinine! The myth of the "self-made millionaire" is an outright lie! And yet both are bedrocks of American culture.
The first feminist gesture is to say: “Ok. They’re looking at me. But I’m looking at them.” The act of deciding to look, of deciding that the world is not defined by how people see me, but by how I see them.” -Agnès Varda
things to do during break: create reading lists and work them off one by one, watch movies in foreign languages, attend lectures or seminars at places you’ve never been to before, discover a new library, visit museums and galleries, send postcards to your friends, take up a new skill like photography/digital drawing, write a daily poem, take an online course on something you always loved, pick flowers and press them, rate 10 cute cafes in town, test how much you can buy for 5$ on a flea market/in second hand shops, just start walking and see where the day takes you, plan a walk/hike/bike tour, start a new blog, create a vision board, write a letter to your future self, go to indie concerts, send cute anonymous messages, try out new ice cream flavors, make your own smoothies, buy artsy magazines, take the train/subway to nowhere, go to a party where you don’t know anyone, ditch a party and spend the whole day reading outside, set up a bullet journal, jot down 5 things you are grateful for each day, create playlist for different moods, try out a new language learning app, unwind and do not use your phone for a day, try meditation, go to a food market, sleep the whole day because you can, go to the theatre/cinema/opera, take aesthetic photos of the prettiest buildings in town
Teen French expressions
For if you want to make hip young friends.
Disclaimer: French people complain a lot. A lot. Don’t be surprised if 90% of these expressions are complaining.
Non mais oh - say this if someone does something mildly annoying and you want to express your shock and distaste.
Tu me fais chier - (alt. tu me fais chier, là.) literally ‘you make me shit’. means you’re pissing me off.
Carrément - translates to ‘squarely’. Means ‘literally’. If someone tells you something surprising or annoying, you can answer simply “ah carrément.” see: tu me fais carrément chier.
J’hallucine / je rêve - are you annoyed by something? say these.
C’est pas possible - a classic. anything bad happens - c’est pas possible. There is no cheese left? It’s not possible. I’m hallucinating. This is a burden on me that solely I can bear I cannot believe this is happening.
Ça commence à me gaver - I’m starting to get real sick of this. see: Ça commence carrément a me gaver là, putain.
T’es relou - verlan slang for ‘lourd’ meaning someone’s heavy, personality-wise. They’re tedious.
Ça me saoûle / ça me gonfle - similar to gaver, means something’s pissing you off, you’re sick of it.
Grave - totally.
C’est clair - totally/that’s clear. Like ‘claro’ in spanish. “Justine elle est trop relou” “C’est clair. Elle me fait chier.”
J’en ai marre - I’m sick of this.
J’en ai ras le bol - I’m sick of this.
J’en ai ras le cul - I’m sick of this (vulgar).
(J’en ai) Rien à battre - I don’t give a damn.
(J’en ai) Rien à foutre - I don’t give a fuck.
C’est bon, là. - That’s enough.
Perso, euh, - “Personally,” generally used at the start of a complaining sentence, to express how personal the matter is to you. Perso, euh, c’est bon là. J’en ai ras le cul.
Rôh là - general expression of distaste. Le longer the rôh, the more annoyed you are. Rôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôh, c’est quoi ce bordel.
C’est quoi ce bordel ? - translates to “what’s this brothel”, means “what’s this shit?!”
C’est de la merde - It’s shit.
C’est une blague ? - Is this a joke?
Idem - ditto
J’ai la dalle - I’m hungry
Ça caille - It’s freezing
Ouf - two meanings 1. phew or 2. verlan for “fou”, meaning crazy (as a noun or adjective). “Kévin, c’est un ouf! Il fait du vélo sans casque!” “Ouais carrément, c’était un truc de ouf!”
Kévin - there’s a running joke that all the young delinquents seem to be called Kévin.
Crever - slang for “to die”. Va crever, connard!
Connard/Connasse - c*nt, but a lot less vulgar in french peoples eyes
And finally,
T’es con. No English translation can express the power behind the words “t’es con”. While it may sort of translate to “you’re a c*nt/idiot”, it expresses something much deeper. You really are a god damn fool.

I havent seen anyone talk about this yet so im making a post.
So lets say you’re researching something for a paper (or just for fun) and the research paper you want to read is behind a paywall, or the site makes you create an account first, or makes you pay to download, or limits you to only 5 free articles, or otherwise makes it difficult for you to read what you want.
do not fear! copy the link to the article
go to sci-hub.se (the url is always changing so its best to check out whereisscihub.now.sh to find what the current url is)
slap the article link in there
bam! free access!
In 2019:
- do more things that make you forget about your phone
- do not compare yourself to other people: trust that you are progressing in your own way
- keep your heart soft, remember that there are genuinely kind people & good things in the world
- finish what you start
- be consistent, and do not be swayed by temporary moods or criticisms from people who don’t matter.
- smile more often
- be okay with being bad at something
- do not blame yourself for people who make you feel unworthy. find new people to talk to and don’t isolate yourself even if you feel awkward or unlovable. don’t convince yourself that you’re better off alone.
- go outside more often and find beauty in small things
- read more books
- be the kindest person you can be
- be so busy you have no time to be bored or dwell on the past
- learn to be patient. don’t rely on instant gratification, wait for the sense of accomplishment after completing a daily goal or achieving a long-term goal
- see bad days as a chance to start again
- always remember that negative thoughts are not the truth. you can do amazing things even though you may feel stupid. you are worthy of love and self care even though you may hate yourself. you deserve kindness and friendship and unconditional love even though you don’t feel that way. people don’t hate you even though you think you’re unlovable. you made mistakes and had bad times but that’s ok - you can always start again.

I love girls who are proud and uninhibited about their intelligence and will brag about their accomplishments and take no shit from pretentious boys who look down on women in their field. girls who are outspoken and a bit arrogant and ambitious in a world where we are told that we must hide our intellect and to always put the needs of others (i.e. men) in front of our own are amazing
some study tips from my psychology teacher 📖
STOP Cramming
cramming is good for the short term, such as just before a test (i’m talking like an hour before), but shouldn’t be used as an effective study method. you only learn the information in the exact way you read it, so any practical application on your test won’t be easy to answer. you also will struggle with answering the same questions you studied for, but asked differently.
Spacing Effect
the spacing effect is essentially the opposite of cramming. instead of doing a 4 hour study session, break it up into groups of 30 minutes. do 30 minutes, take a nice long break, go back for 30, and repeat. that break in between gives your brain time to encode and store the information. this can be done in either one day, or over the course of a few days before the test.
Mnemonic devices are your best friend when dealing with lists of information
any sort of rhyming scheme, letter association, acronyms, etc. is proven to help you. any american can say ROY G. BIV and know exactly what they’re talking about, another example is HOMES for the great lakes. another major example is “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally”/PEMDAS for the order of operations. this helps with lists, i use it all the time in biology for stuff like the Levels of Classification or Characteristics of Living things. for AP Euro i remember “Descartes with a D” because he “Doubts and wrote Discorse on Method”.
Hierarchy Organizing for Midterms and Finals
by breaking information down into a hierarchy, you can figure out how to study all your chapters at once. these are often called “graphic organizers” and it takes the whole topic, then breaks it into subsections, then subsections of those subsections. here’s an example i found for my Memory unit
the whole unit is memory, the subtopics are sensory memory, short term, then long term. then comes the subdivisions of long term memory and so on. this is wonderful for study planning in regards to large information tests.
these are just some of the tips we talked about, and obviously they won’t work for everybody, but it’s really helped my studying process because it’s literally how the brain processes information best for long term storage and retrieval.
*drinks tons of coffee and calls it studying*
All this cheering about Bush's death doesn't sit well with me. Sure, he was a terrible president and person. Sure, he was responsible for countless deaths across the world. But he did do a few good things. For example: he died. By doing so, he made the world a slightly better place.
Study time :)
