I just keep thinking about this. Like, obviously I approach most things from a Blupjeans Centered Lens, and so I think this change is devastating for them. I think it a) makes no sense narratively to pit Barry and Taako together - TSC has the task of establishing Lup's close bond with both of them as a story, and it's just inefficient to introduce this conflict and put these bonds at adds, b) makes Taako look so much worse, and c) is so insulting to Lup! Like. The idea that she'd be okay with this. Taako and Barry are her two favorite people in the world : (

But like... even if this wasn't about Blupjeans! This would be a batshit thing for Taako to say about any member of the crew in Cycle 91! The GN tells us that the crew is "a family" during narration, and yet dialogue shows this shit. Taako needs to have strong bonds with everybody else this late in the game, because that's what makes his regression post-memory loss so juicy.

And for what! For why! Such an unforced error!

Let's be clear, Barry Bluejeans isn't bi because he's in love with Lup. She's a woman, full stop, so normally I'd be fine with reading him as straight.

Barry is bi because his only reaction to waking up naked to two guys (and a walking talking mannequin) in his home was "WOW must've had a wild night lol better get dressed". No panicking over what this means for his sexuality, just calm acceptance and a request for the clothes Merle is holding.

Barry found it entirely possible he partied nude with some dudes, and you'll never convince me he wasn't wondering which of them, if not all of them, he fucked.

i feel like a lot of people see it as a flaw in storytelling when an actor's personality bleeds into or eclipses the typical characterization of their character but personally i think one of the funniest things abt taako adventurezone is that he is sometimes temporarily possessed by a deeply socially anxious nearing middle aged suburban father . its a core component of the character that i feel cannot be ignored

voter suppression against black people is reaching Jim Crow era levels in the US so please get registered to vote now, learn who's going to be on your ballot in advance, try to talk some sense into your conservative relatives or coworkers (diplomatically), and, when November rolls around, vote to make Republicans lose as many seats as possible. there are many other things to do, of course, but the midterms will have a massive impact on the future of civil rights.

i dont know how taako got pigeonholed as the bottles up their feelings twin when taako after reaching a certain point of stress will just start shouting an emotional monologue about how upset he is, and lup was in love with someone she saw on a daily basis for several decades before saying anything about it and got lost in a cave for years because she didnt want to tell anyone about an extremely dangerous plan she made that concerned the fate of the entire world, for which her backup plan seemed to be "itll be fine dont even worry about it"

if barry bluejeans was a pokemon he would have two different forms, where the base form is pure normal type with like a dinky little 350 base stat total (approximately one pidgeotto), technically a "physical attacker" but not a very strong or effective one, and with an actively detrimental ability like normalize. but if he gets knocked out in a battle, you don't have to use an item to revive him afterwards, because he will have activated his form change and turned into a normal/ghost type with like 670 BST (approximately one miraidon), of which like 150 points are in special attack, combined with access to your choice of evil moves like nasty plot, trick room, substitute, ally switch, and of course, some custom unique ability that makes competitive players cry. you have to use the item "cloning pod" on him to put him back in the original form, but like. why would you do that. if he ever does that it's probably because he decided to do that on his own and you couldn't stop him

an important thing to note is that although taako is both gay and lup’s best friend, he is not her gay best friend. kravitz is her gay best friend. she says something along the lines of “kravitz is the gay best friend i never had” and taako gets all offended like what are you talking about?? i’m your gay best friend. you’ve had a gay best friend your entire life. you were literally born with a gay best friend. and she’s like no you’re not. you’re my lameass gay brother its different. kravitz is bitchy and into drama and fashion. when i ask what kravitz thinks about how i look he gives me actual good advice and gasses me up while doing it. you have a mullet. the other night i asked if you wanted to watch drag race and you said no i want to watch masterchef and you made me watch masterchef. and taako’s like you love masterchef and we had a great time. and lup is like yes i do and we did but that’s not my point
