Allow me to introduce myself,

I’m Lee, I go by she/they pronouns! I read a lot, or try to at least, so I figured I should finally update and make use of this reading blog I haven’t touched in a year.

What can you expect here?

- General commentary and opinions on reading/books

Any rules?

- Yeah, don’t be a bigot

- Racists, homophobes, transphobes, fascists, zionists, etc etc will be blocked. If I have the energy they’ll also be lectured

- I’m open to discussion and disagreement on my thoughts of whatever book I’m reading or have read, but be respectful

Main genres?

- I’m willing to read most anything

- I read a good mix of nonfiction and fiction

- Main nonfiction genres are race, LGBTQIA+, crip theory, and memoirs

- Main fiction categories are literary fiction, horror, and queer stories

I wanna finish The Melancholy of Resistance before the 6th because I have a flight and I don’t want it to be my plane book- but I started it on the 26th and am only 24 pages in. #saveme

I just finished The Last Ronin, omg it’s so good- as a childhood TMNT fan I really liked this wrap up of the story and it’s kind of set up of a suggested next generation

I think extremely long paragraphs can be good, I think even a chapter that is one several page paragraph can be excellent if the pacing and content is right. However, a whole book? No paragraph breaks except for chapter breaks? Oh dear

JUST BECAUSE I’M READING A BOOK IN PUBLIC WHILE DRINKING A MATCHA DOES NOT MEAN I’M PUTTING ON A PERFORMANCE! I JUST LIKE THOSE THINGS!!

ALSO, HUMANS ARE SOCIAL CREATURES WHO HAVE AN INSTINCT TO PERFORM FOR OTHERS TO COMMUNICATE SOCIALLY!

Anyway, I find the whole looking down on seemingly performative actions to be silly

Listening to this to not be consumed by my own thoughts while at work is pretty ironic considering the topic of the chapter I’m on: fear or avoidance of boredom.

so metropolitan museum of art has a register of books they’ve published that are out of print and that you can download for free! they’re mostly books on art, archeology, architecture, fashion and history and i just think that’s super useful and interesting so i wanted to share! you can find all of the books available here!

Tumblr being the "piss on the poor" reading comprehension site makes sense when you realize that 79% of adults in the US are functionally illiterate. Same goes for Twitter and TikTok.

Something that frustrates me is authors not trusting their readers. I understand the themes, I’m picking up on the concepts. I do not need a 3 paragraph internal monologue to explain to me the themes of the very obvious thematically important thing that just happened.

Let me think! Let me connect the pieces, don’t hand it to me on a silver platter.
