so my papa bear @defextor​ just got a lovely message on his female oc about how it’s creepy for a male to play a female character. which brings to mind an issue that i’ve had for so damn long with the roleplaying community (or more so those who act like complete nitwits) shaming others for playing their muses. there is no reason that a male (cis or otherwise) shouldn’t be allowed to play a female character, or females (cis or otherwise), or even gender neutral/asexual people can’t play whatever muse they want either.

how in the hell is it creepy for a writer to write for a character of their own, or a canon from some kind of fandom? who in the hell does it hurt if someone happens to identify as male, yet they want to play a female muse (or gender neutral/trans character)? the answer is nobody. it doesn’t hurt anyone playing with them, so long as they’re not being harassing or abusive ooc wise.

however that can go both ways, in fact as a male roleplayer, i have encountered far more females willing to take things out of context. assuming a relationship ic means there are feelings ooc which are similar. i’m not saying male writers don’t get out of hand, because i’ve also seen first hand those kind of assholes, who abuse their roleplaying connections for their own sick amusement.

in the end, my whole issue here is that people judge others on their gender, or sexuality, when in fact it really shouldn’t matter at all. the same can be said with artwork, writing styles, race, creed, or religion. none of that should matter, so long as they aren’t enforcing anything on others who aren’t consenting. ladies can write about having and using a cock all day long, and that’s not creepy, but forbid a man write about what his female character does with her body.

not everything is a perversion of the sexual order. stop being bigots, and start realizing we should all just stick together, supporting each other to do our best at writing amazing characters.

Over my time here, I’ve seen lots of these posts float about in the ether.  As a way to make a more cohesive fandom, I think it’s time to try to approach this and commit again.  I will be making a sideblog with a comprehensive masterlist of all characters in Dragon Age roleplay. Anyone, of course, can participate. When I have made the blog, I will try to update entries as thoroughly as I can. Please be patient and realize sometimes in the time it takes me to do things, new stars have formed.
