not a huge fan of the fact that avm post season 3 never actually addresses the fact that King was, like, CLEARLY at the very least passively suicidal if not actively planning to die if his plan worked. like. he clearly was not particularly concerned with escaping after destroying minecraft

I do still wonder if King being suicidal was even intended from the start, or if the absence of any evidence of plans for after the game was destroyed was just a result of the writers deeming it unimportant for the story's focus at the time. (I wouldn't be surprised by either, at this point. While the series does get pretty dark, directly and unambiguously presenting a suicidal narrative feels like a bit much for it; at the same time though, the team has proven to be really good at indirect storytelling.) Either way, that absence happened to be perfect fertile ground for the suicidal reading to germinate. The very fact that it went unaddressed became the proof in the eyes of many, including me XD

I do agree that he seemed to recover way too fast in the aftermath...if you do read it as a recovery and not as a giant pause or some kind of autopilot; tbh the fact that we never see him apart from Purple until season five kinda makes me think he latched onto Purple because he had nothing else at that point and needed some form of direction. Hopefully season five will start to address that. At the very least, it's already demonstrated that he still has trauma from losing Gold, even if he's accepted that loss.

(It's also demonstrating that his relationship with Purple can't be the same relationship he had with Gold, which. Good. I hope that sticks. Good grief do I dislike the common fandom portrayal of these two. I used to dislike that the show seemed to imply—via the same absence as the suicidality—that they just comfortably replaced their missing family with each other, but if it turns out that was the actual text and it's gonna explore that then I'm game.)
