Poshmark Series: Getting Started as a Seller
Whether you've been buying designer items on Poshmark for months or if today's your first day ever on Poshmark, this list of seven things will help you get started selling your items on Poshmark!
1) Understand what items you can and cannot sell on Poshmark.
What items can I sell on Poshmark?
Currently, Poshmark is a marketplace for women’s fashion and accessories. Please refrain from listing items that don’t fall into this category. Preowned items can be listed on Poshmark if they are clean and in good condition. Items must also be clearly and accurately represented. For health and hygiene reasons, Poshmark does not allow the sale of used swimsuits and all types of undergarments. They also do not condone the selling or buying of perfume, electronics, books, home goods, children’s items, men’s clothing and any beauty or wellness products. If Poshmark feels that your listing violates these guidelines in any way, they reserve the right to remove it and may take other actions, including restricting your future buying and selling privileges on Poshmark.
Finally, Poshmark does not allow the sale of replicas or fakes of any item. Please respect and celebrate the intellectual property and creativity of today’s fashion designers and refrain from posting any listings of replicas.

2) Learn the fees involved with selling on Poshmark.
What are the fees for selling on Poshmark?
Poshmark's fees are very simple and straightforward. Listing is free on Poshmark. When you make a sale, they deduct a 20% commission fee from your earnings. This means that you keep 80% of the sale price as your earnings. Once your sale has shipped and has been received by your buyer, the earnings from your sale are yours. You can withdraw your money as cash whenever you like.
Here’s what you get in return: Poshmark will handle the financial transaction for you (including paying all those credit card fees), provide you with a pre-paid pre-addressed shipping label, and will serve as your customer support team for your sale. In other words, they provide a simple, end-to-end platform for selling fashion.
Example: You list a $50 dress on Poshmark. When the item sells, $40 will be deposited into your Poshmark account. You can withdraw $40 cash whenever you’d like.
Unlike other places, there is no nickel and diming - this means, no credit card fees, no fees to withdraw money as cash, no PayPal fees and no shipping fees as a seller. Simple, upfront and easy!

3) Know these two rules. PayPal transactions are NOT allowed. Trading is NOT supported.
What should I do if someone asks me to take a transaction offline?
Encouraging Poshmark community members to buy outside of Poshmark either through Paypal or other means is not acceptable. Taking transactions offline is harmful and hurts everyone who plays by the rules. It also prevents Poshmark from providing a great experience for everyone. If you are approached to take a transaction offline, please report the user or the specific listing right from the app by pressing the icon in the top right of the screen and clicking Report Listing (or Report User). Then, click Non-PM Transaction. You can also contact Poshmark at [email protected].
To Trade or Not to Trade? (That is the question.)
It won't be long after you post your first item that someone will "Like" it and immediately ask you if you trade. Trading is when a person does not want to pay cash for your item, but rather have you find something you like in their closet and both just pay for shipping.
Poshmark actually does not recommend participating in trades, because there is not much they can do if the items sent are nothing like the seller promised or if the items never show up to your doorstep at all. And, not only do you not receive what you were promised, but you also have sent them an item from your closet.
Read this post before you decide to orchestrate a trade with someone.

4) Check out current listings on Poshmark.
The search functionality allows you to find specific designers, sizes and even key words, so it only takes a few seconds to see all of the Michael Kors pumps selling in your size.
This will help you understand the different brands that others sell and what other listings look like. It also helps you understand how much you will be able to get for that brand new dress with the tags still on it or that barely used Coach bag. From the app, click on Feed. Then, click the magnifying glass at the top left. Next, type your favorite designer in the search bar or choose from the listed categories.

5) Create at least five listings.
Take the Time to Create a Beautiful Listing
Creating a listing is quick and easy. That’s why Poshmark encourages you to take those extra steps to showcase your style and get creative with your Covershot. Poshmark finds that creating a listing where you’re wearing the item you’re listing for sale is much quicker to sell than when it’s just on a hanger. 6) Make sure you know how to ship and be ready even BEFORE your first sale.
We created a video to help with all of your shipping questions.
You should watch it now, so you have your FREE shipping boxes and already understand how shipping works when you make your first sale!

7) Start following other users.
In our opinion, this is the most important piece to selling your items. You could do numbers 1 through 6 listed above, but without followers seeing your listings, you won't be able to make sales. We're going to write an entire post devoted to helping you get more followers. But for now, just start following as many people as you can.

It's Robin and JB . . . a brunette and a blonde! :)
How do you organize your listings so the "sold" items shift to the end?
On Poshmark, all of the items that are SOLD will naturally fall to the bottom when you reShare the other items that are still for sale. You should be reSharing current listings often, as this is the only time your listing will appear in your followers' news feeds. Each time you Share or reShare an item in your closet (whether to a party or not), it will move to the top of your closet.
Some people organize their closets in various ways. For example, I have my closet on Poshmark organized by color. Other people separate the different types of clothing/shoes in their closet into sections.

Lots of people have descriptions for their Posh Closets telling people that they do (or don't do trades) and etc., how do I add a description to mine?
On Poshmark, you normally see a person's name, city and website on her profile. When you see different information in this area, such as trading, etc., they have simply added this info in the My Profile section where it asks My City and My Website instead of listing a city and website. Hope this helps!

How do you tag
Tagging someone on Poshmark works the same way as mentioning someone on Twitter. You simply put the @ sign in front of the person's username and it will show up in their notifications. You don't need to tag someone on their own listing. Only when you want to get their attention when you are not in their closet.
Happy Poshmarking!

how can i hold an item for someone
Hi! To hold an item for someone on Poshmark, the easiest thing to do is add RESERVED to the beginning of the Title of the listing and then add two zeros to the price, so you can keep it in your closet, but no one else will purchase it. Hope this helps!
