What's your opinion on age gaps?
My opinion on them is a nothingburger, but I find them overblown and boring. Every time I see the phrase "older men do it better" on this hellsite I want to do my best hairball impression and hurl. It's that cringey, just straight cringebait. I'm sorry if that's your thing, I'm not trying to yuck your yum or judge you (not you specifically anon, the royal you), it's just something that personally makes me squick.
Regular age gap relationships where life just happened to put 2 people of very different ages together also happen all the time. One of my friends, who is my age at 33, has a husband who is 48. Together they're poly with the third of their triad, who is 40. Hell, I was in an AGR at one point that went fine and then we separated cause we just drifted to different parts of the US. There's nothing wrong with it when it's just luck of the dating roll, it's just a normal Tuesday ya know?
If someone is young though and they want something like 24/7 D/s, the mistake is thinking that someone older as a partner who is more experienced can help them make up for their knowledge gap on how to make their kinks a reality. This is a trap, don't fall for it.
If someone must learn about these things, they should do so in safe classroom settings with others also there to learn. And by classroom I don't mean physical place, I mean educational. There are plenty of tutorials and explainers even on youtube: Dom/sub living, Kat Blaque, Loving BDSM, and Evie Lupine are excellent resources. And practice walking yourself through doing what they recommend, don't just watch it and think you know it. Reflect on it and learn.
Just for the love of all that is holey, nobody should ever watch Ms. Elle X's content. Her "advice" makes me rage, she's going to get people hurt and has a lot of asinine and judgemental takes on what is and isn't D/s. Yes, her work is that bad that she's catching strays from a random tumblr blog.
AGR's can be totally non-controversial relationships when people are just normal dating and not predating and happen to come across someone with a different age.
But when someone in the dating world is specifically targeting way below their weight class consistently, they really need to self-reflect and ask themselves why. And people need to be extremely cautious around these individuals. Whether they do it intentionally or not is honestly irrelevant, they're still seeking it out and could be potentially harmful to their partners in the process because of the inherent power imbalance that comes with having a relationship where someone knows who they are and has all the power, and the other person is still learning who they are and doesn't have control.
