“You heard that? That’s what torture sounds like, for the next 30 days we’ll be hearing nothing but that everywhere… I just wonder why do artist feel the need to record a new Christmas album with basically the same songs every year… What’s wrong with last years songs?”
“If you wanted coal in your stocking al you had to do was ask, man.”
“That… is the best news I’ve heard all day,” Amber told him. She turned to make her way over, but stopped when she realized how rude that would be. Just because she was exhausted didn’t mean she shouldn’t be civil, after all. “Thank you. I don’t think we’ve met… I’m Amber,” she introduced.
“I’m Levi,” he said, sticking out a hand, “now if I go back for more are you gonna judge me? I say that with the caveat that you can have your pick of what’s left. I eat like a garbage disposal so, I’m not picky.”
“If I wear them long enough, they definitely do hurt my feet. But with that being said, I’ve been wearing heels since I was a teenager, I’ve developed a tolerance. It’s like when ballerinas have to stand on their toes in pointe shoes, and their feet are beat up and sometimes worse for the wear. But eventually it doesn’t bother them anymore. Eventually I get over the pain and just wearing the shoes I can do anything in them.”
“That is--that’s a lot,” Levi remarked, “is there a reason for that?” he added, plucking at his own t-shirt, “button down’s the fanciest I’ll go these days unless I’m with my parents.” One of the beauties of his job was that he didn’t have to look presentable. On purpose. If he never had to stand in front of another fellowship board and beg for funding again, it would be too soon. “I mean it’s impressive, you’re almost as tall as I am and you look like you could outrun me without taking those things off.”
“Oh my God…” she said looking at the shoes that had just arrived for her. “I want to have sex in these shoes…I want to get married in these shoes…get married to these shoes. They’re not even on the market yet and I get to keep them…Christmas came early.”
“And they don’t hurt your feet?” Levi questioned. All he could see was the discomfort factor, but that wasn’t anything new. If he could, he’d be in nothing but sweats all day, every day. Unfortunately society had other ideas about what he needed to wear on occasion. “seriously how do you walk in those? What kind of painkillers do you take? My feet hurt just looking at them.”
“Skipping that third cup of coffee was a mistake,” Amber muttered, more to herself than anyone else. After a particularly choreography-heavy eleven hours on set, she was exhausted. How did people keep up with schedules like this?
“Lucky for you they just put the doughnuts out by the coffee, all the good ones are still there.”
“That’s where you’re wrong, Tall, Bald, & Handsome. The only holiday I like is Halloween. I’m not one for putting up decorations before December. I don’t even have decorations. I have a tiny tree, but if Lo and Grace decorate I’ll help them, but not before December first.”
“I have hair, just--for the record,” Levi said, “I shave my head, it’s easier to deal with. But i can grow hair, I’m not bald or anything.” He didn’t consider himself to be vain, that required more time than he had, but still. “aren’t you not supposed to put up your tree before then anyway?”
“I’m not actually looking forward to either of them. I kind of just want to go back to London and hide away for a couple weeks. I don’t even need the whole decorations or anything. Just to go back to London and be far far way from holiday family time.” She did not want to spend this time with family that would ignore her, or tell her how much of a let down she was for not acting.
“Ah, see, can’t relate,” Levi said, “when I go back to London, it’s always family time. This is my escape.” Levi had come across the pond first for education, now for work. Though the plane ride was slightly shorter now that he wasn’t in California. Not that his parents bought that as his reason for rarely coming home. “so where do you hide in London?” he asked.
“You bet your ass I’m already onto Thanksgiving and thinking about what decorations I want to use in my apartment. What about you? Are you excited?”
“I’m excited for the food,” Levi said, “not a huge decorator, to be honest.”
“A little bit of both? Listen I watch Hallmark Christmas movies every single night, but I do wait to put up my tree until after Thanksgiving. I’m like a five on the Christmas scale until after Thanksgiving then I go up to a 10.”
“You’re making me feel--very British right now.”
“So I guess you’re all onto thanksgiving now, right? Or are you one of the people who says November 1st is the first day of Christmas?”

Toni laughed at the scenario. “I mean lighting is important but paying for and replacing equipment they break that’s another thing altogether. I don’t see why they don’t just let people do their jobs. I’m glad that they don’t really have to come to me because my sketches are just concepts and visualization. I could imagine someone on my iPad or computer or even with my sketchbook trying to tell me how to draw them better.”
“I mean the equipments pretty replaceable too. I’m more concerned with someone hurting themselves,” Levi admitted. He’d stopped placing importance on material stuff a while ago, it was all just tools anyway. “hey if you say so, man. This art stuff’s kind of,” he motioned above his head, “I’m just here to make people look good, get the fx crew what they need.”
“I’m sorry I promise I’ll leave you and your abs be.” Telling him with a shy smile as she tucked her hair behind her ear. “I mean you’re not wrong about this place being full of abs though. It’s like eye candy city around here.” Gesturing to the people all around them. “At least it wasn’t my actress on the ladder.” Which she was very grateful for even though at Bishop Academy they all seemed to want to do their own stunts. “So besides rescuing actresses from ladders should I ask how you’re day’s going to just casually change topics? We can totally talk about the weather if you prefer.”
“If it was, I wouldn’t hold that against you,” Levi assured her with a smile. He was used to the actors running amok, sometimes it seemed like they needed babysitters more than directors on set, “I mean, it’s going okay. They put the rabbit food on one table and all the good stuff on the other in craft services, so I can’t complain. How’s yours going? Or alternatively what are your thoughts on the weather?”
“Thanks man, none taken, I’m gonna take that as a compliment.” He chuckled. “Don’t worry I got this, I unplugged it before.”
“You put it back in the case properly when you’re done and I might have to start paying you.”
Adeline quirked a brow before setting the equipment down. “Sorry, I was just curious about it. But, I’ve always wondered what I would look like with abs.”
“It’s ok. I am more than happy to answer your questions and show you how all this works, I just don’t want to see anyone get hurt.”
Logan was walking around the different sets trying to inspire herself to write when she heard the mention of abs. Stopping in her tracks as she looked up from her laptop and saw the man mentioning them. “Wait can I see your abs if we’re talking about abs? Cause I feel you got like an eight-pack under that shirt.”
“Come on, I’m trying to prevent lawsuits here. Don’t be starting new ones on me. Besides this place is full of abs that want to be seen, I was just trying to get that actress off the ladder.”
