Has a character ever done something in your draft that made you stop and think,"…would they actually do this?"

I swear that's one of the hardest parts of writing fanfic.

You want to let the story grow, surprise people, maybe even change canon a little…

But you still want readers to look at your characters and go,

"Yeah. That's them."

What's the hardest part for you?

Keeping everyone in character? Pacing a long fic? Or making your canon changes feel completely believable?

Something I like to think about isn’t “would this character would do this?” as much as “what would have to happen to make this character do this?”

People can be pushed to crazy, out of character things depending on what happened leading up to it.

my disappointment was immeasurable after playing the new update and confirming that s6 did in fact only give Nai'o a new summer fit, so i had to take matters into my own hands. here's Tish!!

instead of just throwing whatever on her i decided to base her swimsuit pretty closely on her canon fit, both as a sort of adaptation challenge and for recognizability. i think she turned out so cutie :3

Writing multiple fics in the same timeline but from different character POVs and with different start dates gets really complicated really quick 😅

(And this isn’t even half of the whole spreadsheet) (AND I’m still noodling on a Tamala fic for this same timeline)

I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like “OH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.” It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
